Tuesday morning Geary County Fire responded to a semi trailer fully engulfed on I-70 milepost 290 four miles west of Junction City about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Dickinson County Fire District 1 and Grandview Plaza responded and assisted with water support.

Geary County Rural Fire Chief Garry Berges said that there were not any injuries. The truck was a refrigerated unit carrying approximately 30,000 pounds of french fries.

The eastbound I-70 off ramp will be closed until about noon while cleanup continues. Berges estimated the total loss at $80,000.

According to the Sheriff's Department,  David Cropper of New Philadelphia, Ohio was traveling east bound in a 2023 Kenworth Semi-truck when he noticed his truck begin to lock in the rear. Upon pulling off the roadway he observed his rear tires had caught fire. The trailer was completely destroyed by fire and was removed from the roadway.
