A memorial service will be held at a later date. Brian was born June 8, 1939, in London, England the fourth child of William Bernard and Mary (Redmond) Marshman. After graduating from St. Joseph's College in Beulah Hill London he enlisted in the Royal Air Force. He served honorably with the Royal Air Force until his discharge. Brian resided in the United States for over forty years. He was employed with the Junction City Police Department as a dispatcher. After his time with the police department, he obtained a private detective license. At the time of his death, he was retired. Brian attended St. Xavier Catholic Church in Junction City, KS. He enjoyed playing golf, playing pool. He was an avid reader and always looking for another good book. He had a great passion for music and listened to classical music. Survivors include one sister, Violet Elizabeth Marshman of London, England; cousins in both Ireland and England. Ron served five years in the United States Army. After his Army career at Ft. Riley, he stayed and lived in Geary County, Kansas where he raised his family and worked on a farm. He married Joleen Enfield in Junction City, KS. They were married for twenty eight years. Carol A. Wells, age 74, of Marysville, passed away after a short battle with bone and lung cancer on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Cambridge Place in Marysville.

Carol was born on May 2, 1947, in Beatrice, to Paul L. Maguire and Betty J. (Lattimer) Maguire.&nbsp;She married Charles L. Wells on October 31, 1964, at the First Christian Church in Marysville.&nbsp;He passed away on January 29, 2018.&nbsp;They had three children: Shelly, Chuck and Kelly. She had worked at Valley Vet for fourteen years, retiring in 2013.&nbsp;

In her early years she enjoyed staying home and taking care of her children and even started her own daycare as she loved children so much. Carol was a fun loving sometimes eccentric lady. She loved fast cars and loud music including doo-wop and rock. You would find her working in her garden or hanging clothes on the line when it was warm enough outside. She loved her children, grandchildren and her great grands. They were her world and what she lived for. There wasn’t much she wouldn’t do for them!&nbsp;

Survivors include her three children: Shelly Wells of Beatrice, Chuck (Rakella) Wells of Beattie and Kelly Miller of Blue Rapids, 5 grandchildren: Alex (Lacey) Wells, Johnathan Klein, Steven Klein, Kelsey (Josh) Kenworthy and Emily (Brian) Bussman, and eight great-grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Barbara Maguire, a grandson, Anthony Wells and a son-in-law Mike Miller.

 She has 5 grandchildren who she loved spending time with. She enjoyed teaching them how to cook. In her free time she liked to sew, play hidden object games, decorate for the holidays and watch NCIS.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, casino’s boating, mowing his lawn, following the Kansas City Chiefs, and having breakfast at various restaurants. On November 11, 1960 he was united in marriage to Ellen Dawson in Abilene. He is survived by his daughter Vicky Lyne of Ventura, California, his son Kevin Houlton of Oxnard, California, three grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Ellen, two brothers John and Thomas, and one sister Elizabeth. Services for Gilbert will be Monday, February 28, 2022 at the Danner Funeral Home with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. His final resting place will be in the Abilene Cemetery. Following high school, Phil joined the U.S. Marines. He served in Vietnam. Phil earned two Purple Hearts during his service time. He was proud of his honorable service in the Marines. Phil was a 33-year member of the American Legion Pearce Keller Post 17 in Manhattan. He served as a member of the Color Guard for many years. On January 9, 1971 in Wichita, he was united in marriage to his wife Kathy. She survives of the home. Phil moved to Manhattan in 1989. He worked for Kansas State University in Network Services, until his retirement in 2013. He enjoyed playing golf and more golf. He would play anytime and anywhere. Phil was fortunate enough to play the Waste Management TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course last year. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Gene and John. Phil is survived by his wife Kathy, and his sons, Matt and Kevin both of Manhattan; his brothers, Paul Gerdes of Anthony, Kansas and Jay Gerdes of Wichita, Kansas; his sister-in-law, Cindy of McPherson, Kansas; and his nieces and nephews: Adam, Jenny, Thomas, Kate, William and June; and his many friends and extended family. Tina Louise Johnson, 60, of Junction City, KS passed away on February 9, 2022 at Wakefield Care and Rehabilitation, Wakefield, KS.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 18, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington Street, Junction City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at New Church of the Living God, 1315 W. Ash Street, Junction City, with Bishop James E. Johnson officiating. Tina was born on June 19, 1961 (Juneteenth) in Junction City, KS to Edward Reginald and Nellie Agnes (Magee) Johnson. She attended several local elementary schools, Junction City Middle School, and graduated from Junction City High School in 1979. In 1997, Tina graduated from Barton County Community College with an Associate Degree in Applied Science. She would later go on to work in various areas of customer service. Tina attended New Church of the Living God in Junction City. She was baptized on October 13, 2013 under the leadership of Bishop James E. Johnson. Tina loved God and serving people. Tina had a passion for helping others and listening to them. She was a reliable person upon whom many depended. She was always smiling and happy even when facing many hardships. She was a person who advocated for herself and others. Tina never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone if she could. Tina’s hobbies included cooking and trying new recipes, playing bingo, dominoes and games on her cellphone, watching soap operas, learning new tech gadgets, volunteering, listening to gospel and old school music, traveling, catching up with family and friends, creating funny filters/FaceTime with her granddaughter, and online shopping. Tina loved her fur baby, Love, with whom she spent quite a bit of time. Love was her dog’s name because she loved people just like Tina. Survivors include one daughter, Natalie (Spencer) Ragsdale of Kansas City, KS, one son, Ivan J. Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO, one granddaughter, Imani Johnson, two sisters, IdaMae Ware of Junction City, KS, Mary Grismore of Fort Worth, TX, and two brothers, Edward R. Tina Louise Johnson, 60, of Junction City, KS passed away on February 9, 2022 at Wakefield Care and Rehabilitation, Wakefield, KS. Visitation will be held Friday, February 18, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington Street, Junction City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at New Church of the Living God, 1315 W. Ash Street, Junction City, with Bishop James E. Johnson officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to New Church of the Living God or to the ALS Association. Tina was born on June 19, 1961 (Juneteenth) in Junction City, KS to Edward Reginald and Nellie Agnes (Magee) Johnson. She attended several local elementary schools, Junction City Middle School, and graduated from Junction City High School in 1979. In 1997, Tina graduated from Barton County Community College with an Associate Degree in Applied Science. She would later go on to work in various areas of customer service. Tina attended New Church of the Living God in Junction City. She was baptized on October 13, 2013 under the leadership of Bishop James E. Johnson. Tina loved God and serving people. Tina had a passion for helping others and listening to them. She was a reliable person upon whom many depended. She was always smiling and happy even when facing many hardships. She was a person who advocated for herself and others. Tina never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone if she could. Tina’s hobbies included cooking and trying new recipes, playing bingo, dominoes and games on her cellphone, watching soap operas, learning new tech gadgets, volunteering, listening to gospel and old school music, traveling, catching up with family and friends, creating funny filters/FaceTime with her granddaughter, and online shopping. Tina loved her fur baby, Love, with whom she spent quite a bit of time. Love was her dog’s name because she loved people just like Tina. Survivors include one daughter, Natalie (Spencer) Ragsdale of Kansas City, KS, one son, Ivan J. Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO, one granddaughter, Imani Johnson, two sisters, IdaMae Ware of Junction City, KS, Mary Grismore of Fort Worth, TX, and two brothers, Edward R. Johnson II of Junction City, KS, and James (Olivia) Johnson of Tacoma, WA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, neighbors, and friends. Tina was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Annie Higgins, two brothers, Michael L. Eldon Eugene Sundgren, age 90 of Leonardville, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center. 

He was born on October 13, 1931 in Clay Center, the son of Alfred Edward and Emma Adina (Carlson) Sundgren.  He attended Walsburg Grade School and graduated from Leonardville High School.  Following graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served in Naples, Italy and Cuba as a Mechanic and Equipment Operator.

He married Beverly Jane Specht on April 20, 1958.  She survives of the home.

Eldon was a lifetime farmer and was a charter member of the Riley County Young Farmers.  He served on the Leonardville Rural Fire Department for 35 years.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Walsburg Lutheran Church, serving on council and as the church treasurer.  In recent years, he attended the Fairview Presbyterian Church.  Eldon also served on the Riley County Conservation Board, Fancy Creek Township Board and Farmers Union Coop Board. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Ann Sundgren of Wichita; a son, Darin Sundgren and wife Lori and their son, Devon of Bakersfield, California; a brother, Kermit Sundgren and wife Jessie of Leonardville and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the Walsburg Lutheran Church with Rev. Keith Wiens and Pastor Gerry Sharp officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the Walsburg Cemetery with Military Honors.

William Carl Hentzler, III, age 78 of Silver Lake, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022 at UKH St. Francis Medical Center in Topeka.

He was born on April 27, 1943 in Topeka, the son of William C. Jr. and Ethel Anne (Setchell) Hentzler.

He married Marilyn Rae Foresman in 2000.  She survives of the home.

Bill was a carmen and welder for Santa Fe Railroad.  He loved attending his grandkids activities, gardening, golfing and his dogs.  He enjoyed volunteering for the United Way, Cancer Society, Operation Backpack, Let’s Help and Prairieland Foods.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, William Bret Hentzler of Topeka; three daughters, Brooke Louanne Roark and husband Brendon of Topeka, Jill R. Weems of Salina and Jayme May and husband Ivan of Silver Lake; one sister, Judith Anne Hentzler of Topeka; one brother, John Henry and wife Beverly of Georgetown, Texas and also an eight man football team with two subs and four cheerleaders (thirteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter).

Cremation is planned with graveside services in the Bala Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on April 9, 2022.

Wesley “Carleen” Martin, 68, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at her home in Clay Center, Kansas.

Carleen was born on July 13, 1953 in Chillicothe, Missouri, the daughter of William and Virginia (King) Simpson. She spent her formative years in Marysville, Kansas. On November 27, 1970, she was united in marriage to Monte Martin at Waterville, Kansas. The union was blessed with the birth of one son and one daughter, Brian and Brenda.

The family moved to McPherson, Kansas where they raised their children. After her children were grown, Monte and Carleen moved to Frankfort, Kansas where they made a wonderful home and life to share with their grandchildren.

Carleen was a homemaker/Stay at home Mom most of her life. She dedicated and devoted her life to her children and grandchildren.

After her children and grandchildren grew up and left the home she took on new hobbies. Her Favorite pass time was logging on to her computer and playing online community games, during which she met some amazing and lifelong friends that she enjoyed talking to every day.

Throughout her life, Carleen devoted herself to caring for her family and for her friends. She was a loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother who would always put her family before herself. We know that she is in peace in heaven, and it is a comfort to her family knowing that she has been reunited with her loving husband and is free of pain and sadness.

Survivors include her son, Brian Martin, her daughter, Brenda Hudlin of Clay Center, KS, sister Linda Roy of Aurora, MO, granddaughter Cortney Poley of Wilber, NE, grandson, Kyle Hudlin of Frankfort, Ks, grandson, Jacob Hudlin of Clay Center, KS, grandson Kalib Martin of Denver, CO and 7 Great Grand Kids. Linda Kay (Gaskill) Kuntz passed away February 10, 2022 at Abilene Memorial Hospital following a short illness, with family by her side. Linda was born August 6, 1945 to James Maxson and Wilna Marie (Jones) Gaskill. Her earliest years were spent on her grandparents’ (Ethel and Harold Jones) small farm just northwest of town. Later the family moved to an acreage west of Abilene. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1963 and then attended Kansas State University for two years. She was the first woman in the Meat Production Program and was proficient at judging meat and cattle. She was a candidate for Royal Purple Queen, a finalist for K-State Rodeo Queen and a nominee for the Ag Honorary, however at that time she was told it was only for men. She also was a two-time first runner up to the state Angus queen. Later when her children were active in 4-H, she served as community 4-H leader for twenty-four years while serving the Talmage Progressives and the Harmony Hustlers. She served two terms on the Dickinson County Extension Board and was a charter member of the Buckeye Saddle Club. Linda married Gordon Kuntz on October 24, 1965 and together they farmed north of Abilene. They were married for forty-nine years at the time of Gordon’s death in 2015. Linda accepted a position at the Eisenhower Center in May of 1989, working there for thirty-one years before she retired in 2020. While there, she was honored for a living history program that she designed. It included adults and children that portrayed the Eisenhower family during Ike’s early years. They reenacted “life at home” for visitors to the Eisenhower home. All the garments used in the program were period-appropriate and hand sewn by Linda. For her efforts with this program she received a National Archives Award, which was presented to her in Washington, D.C. Linda’s attention to detail was evident in all aspects of her life, whether it was gardening, canning, sewing, cooking, researching or landscaping her beautiful home. Early in her life she adopted the Bible verse found in Colossians 3: 23 that says, “whatever you do, do it as if doing it for the Lord.” She has lived that verse out each day of her life. Genealogy has also been a longtime interest of Linda’s and she has provided extensive family history for her friends and family. She loved and supported the Central Kansas Free Fair and Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo. She painted the advertising signs for the rodeo arena for many years. She was honored to be selected as parade marshal twice. Linda was an enthusiastic supporter of her children and grandchildren whether they were showing livestock, baking goods, building rockets or assisting with the tractor pull. As part of Kuntz Land and Cattle, she took an active role in day-to-day operations. Linda will be especially missed at wheat harvest time. She always brought delicious meals to the field each day, knowing the break and nutritious food was important to the workers. Linda was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Church in Abilene, serving in many administrative positions. She and her family traveled with others from the church three summers to the Navajo reservation in New Mexico, to help build a home for battered women. She is survived by her children Kristen (Schmalzried) and husband Gerald of Raymore Missouri, Dusty (Gina), and Travis (Kristen) of Abilene, and grandchildren Raycelon, Ryder, Rowdy, Laine, Aaron, Riggin, Lorelai, Emmett, Belle and Elsie. She is also survived by sister Lisa Peters of Abilene, and was preceded in death by brother James R. Gaskill. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 15 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Church and the funeral service will be Wednesday, February 16 at 10:30 a.m., also at Emmanuel Church. Linda Kay (Gaskill) Kuntz - August 6, 1945 - February 10, 2022

Albert Keith Wheeler, 71 of Abilene passed away February 9, 2022. He was born January 22, 1951 in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Jim and Joan (Willey) Wheeler. He worked at Thunder Struck in Abilene. 

He is survived by his daughter, Kim Jones (Dale) of Abilene. Three sons; Kelly Wheeler (Kit) of Florida; K.W. Pound of North Carolina and Tommy Wheeler (Emily) of Oklahoma. Eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one sister, Patti Joyce (Tom) of Florida and best friends Gloria Wheeler of Oklahoma and Jim and Kathy Murray of Abilene. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jimmy Wheeler.

Carol E. Oukrop, 87, a long-time faculty member at Kansas State University and former director of the A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications, died Saturday evening, February 5, 2022, at her home in Manhattan, with loved ones at her side. She was born Sept. 6, 1934, in Fargo, N.D., to Vic and Mildred Christensen, Watford City, N.D., and grew up on a cattle ranch in western North Dakota. She earned a B.A. in Journalism from the University of North Dakota, and an M.A. in Journalism and a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Iowa, from which she was honored as an Alumni Fellow. She worked on newspapers and in public relations in North Dakota and Iowa. Oukrop began her teaching career at Dickinson State College in Dickinson, N.D. She taught at the University of Iowa 1965-69, and joined the faculty at Kansas State University in 1969, where she remained for 33 years. She was the first director of the A. Q. Miller School of Journalism, and served in that capacity for 11 of those 33 years. Oukrop led the school through an arduous reaccreditation process, including spearheading the naming of the newly designation A.Q Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications. In 1983-84 she was a visiting professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She retired from Kansas State University in 2002. In her career Oukrop was best known for her pioneering work on the status of women in journalism and mass communications education. She and colleague Ramona Rush conducted two national studies, 30 years apart, on the status of women in journalism education. Oukrop developed one of the first courses on gender issues in the mass media, and she co-edited Seeking Equity for Women in Journalism and Mass Communication Education: A 30-Year Update. Oukrop’s professional and honorary societies included the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication, the National Federation of Press Women, the Public Relations Society of America, Women in Communication Inc. and various editorial review boards. Local memberships and activities included the Fairy Godmothers board, the Manhattan Library Association board, the Manhattan Arts Center, the Manhattan Area Retired Educators, the Kansas State University Social Club and Rotary International, for which she was one of the first women invite to join. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, and was a Greater Manhattan Community Foundation trustee. On Sept. 23, 1956, she was married to Ray K. Oukrop in Dickinson, N.D. They were divorced in 1963. For 30 years, she loved dancing with her steady partner, Ray Seemater, now deceased, at the American Legion. Carol was a person of simple needs, living by the Ten Commandments. There is no way to accurately measure the healing and teaching she bestowed on all with whom she had contact. She was a wonderful cook, and every holiday she hosted anyone she knew needed fellowship and a home cooked meal, with many becoming regulars. Her life experiences were channeled into an enormous compassion and empathy for anyone who was suffering or in need of comfort. Her emotional intelligence was unmatched. Survivors include two children, Michael C. Oukrop of Austin, Texas, and Patricia J. She was born June 16, 1931, in the Deep Creek Community, southeast of Manhattan, the daughter of Edward and Daisy M. (Amiss) White. She graduated from Keats High School in 1949 and had attended Kansas State University. On February 26, 1950, at the Keats Methodist Church, she was married to Walter Ned Harris. Ned preceded her in death on May 11, 2014. Wanda was a longtime member of the Sedalia Community Church. She was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Manhattan, KS, Rock Away Beach and Forsyth, Missouri. Survivors include two children: Sandra Harris of Manhattan and Richard Harris of Wichita, KS; two brothers: Jerry White of Salina, KS, and Don White of Norwich, KS; five grandchildren: Rachel, Jane, Walter, Margaret and Daniel; and 6 great-grandchildren. Don K. Magnuson, age 83, of Manhattan, died Wednesday February 9, 2022 at the Home of the Flint Hills in St. George. He was born on January 31, 1939 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Carl and Lois (Brackman) Magnuson. Don attended school in Scranton, Kansas and graduated from Scranton High School with the class of 1957. On February 14, 2000 in Manhattan, Don was united in marriage to his wife Roseann. She survives at their home in Manhattan. Don worked for many years with Ag Press in Manhattan as a bindery supervisor. He enjoyed his job and the people he worked with. He was a jack of all trade’s kind of guy, he could fix anything, from an electrical problem to a plumbing issue, there was nothing he couldn’t fix. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, going camping, and attending the Kansas State Fair. He and his wife Rosann loved to travel as often as they could. They went everywhere across the country. Don also enjoyed the simple things in the world from mowing the lawn, whoppers malt ball candy and eating hamburgers with ketchup only. His family and especially his grandchildren were so loved by Don. He went to support them in their many events over the years, he tried to make them all and not miss one. In addition to his wife Roseann, he is also survived by his children: Donnie (Kristy) Magnuson, of Wichita, Brian Magnuson, of Manhattan, Michael (Susan) Boller, of Manhattan, and Cheri Blaise, of St. George; also, his grandchildren: Britte Magnuson, Maddie Boller, Hayden Boller, Colton Magnuson, and Mickenzie Blaise; and his great grandson, Kason Blaise; and his brother, Jerry (Janet) Magnuson, of Lawrence. Ronald Lee Reich, 74, of Manhattan, passed away Wednesday, February 9th, at his home. He served in the US Army during the Korean and Vietnam era serving with the Military Police, working with the Riley County Law Enforcement, with Menards, and others. Ron was born in Manhattan, on October 18, 1947, the son of the late Helen Mae (Whitesell) Warnica and John &nbsp;Reich. He was married to Janis &nbsp;Wilson and was later divorced, but remained friends. &nbsp;He graduated from Manhattan High School; Attended college at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS. &nbsp;He was a member of the NRA, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and many others. &nbsp;Ron was an outdoorsman and loved being with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Carroll L. Davis, Roni Delarosa, Laura (John) Leslie, and Robert Reich, all of Manhattan; &nbsp;a sister, Anette (John) Wright, of Athens, Georgia. three brothers, Terry (Janice) Reich, of Arizona; &nbsp;Tom (Jeanie) Reich, of Oklahoma; &nbsp;Jack Reich, of Abilene, Kansas. &nbsp;He is also survived by 2 half-siblings; 12 grandchildren and, 9 great-grandchildren. &nbsp; Ron is preceded in death by his parents and a &nbsp;great-granddaughter (Serenity Reich). Joe Aaron Sims, Jr. was born in Danville, Illinois on August 13, 1931, to Joe Sims Sr. and Samantha Griggs. He graduated from Danville High School, class of 1948. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army on January 8, 1954, at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Joe served overseas in the Vietnam War. He achieved the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged in Fort Riley, Kansas in the late 1950s. Joe was a Christian and lifelong member of Second Baptist Church in Junction City, Kansas. Joe loved sports, most of all the Kansas City Chiefs, and could often be found enjoying football or baseball. He also loved jazz. Some of his favorite musicians were John Coltrane, Erroll Garner, and Billie Holiday, just to name a few. Joe was a prankster and loved to hold long conversations. With his quick wit, embellished songs, and sly remarks, he kept everyone around him laughing. He will be most remembered for teaching his grandchildren how to drive, driving his grandchildren and great-grandchildren around, and being a listening ear. The love of Joe’s life was Margaret Stewart Sims and the two shared more than sixty loving years together as friends, then life partners, which led to husband and wife. We will never forget his endearing term of “Honeybun”, for his loving wife. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by a sister Margaret Sims and his wife, Margaret Stewart Sims. He has a host of blended family members and friends from many parts of the world to cherish his memory and continue his legacy of love and laughter. A wake for Joe’s family and friends will be held Monday, February 14 from 5-7 p.m. at Carlson’s Irvin Parkview Funeral Home, 1317 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502. Joe Aaron Sims, Jr. was born in Danville, Illinois on August 13, 1931, to Joe Sims Sr. and Samantha Griggs. He graduated from Danville High School, class of 1948. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army on January 8, 1954, at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Joe served overseas in the Vietnam War.
