&nbsp;Lucille B. (Meyer) Love, passed away October 30, 2021, at the age of 88, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House. She was born September 20, 1933, the daughter of Walter and Ella (Holle) Meyer of Hanover, Kansas. She attended Trinity Lutheran School, Hanover High School and Manhattan Area Technical College. Lucy was employed at Kaup Furniture and Feldkamp Furniture until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, dancing, traveling, and playing cards. He biggest joy in life were her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Deb Reves, and a son Ronald Roever. Survivors include her two daughters: Donna Cederberg and her husband David of Manhattan, and Robin Brown and her husband Greg of Alta Vista, KS; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Cremation is planned with private family services. Inurnment will be in the Ashland Community Cemetery. Dorothy Mae “Dody” Berg, 63, of Westmoreland, Kansas, died Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. She was a life-long resident of the area.

Dody was born on June 5, 1958, in Wamego, Kansas, the daughter of Chester and Dorothy Turner Plummer. She attended local grade schools and graduated from Wamego High School in 1976. She then attended Pittsburg State University studying English and Accounting.

Dody was the co-owner of Berg Repair in rural Westmoreland. She was a mechanic and bookkeeper as well as all other aspects of the business. In her earlier years she managed a day care in Wamego and had been an active member of the Jaycees, holding both local and state offices. Dody was a volunteer for 7 Township Fire and dedicated member in the Gold Star community for the families of fallen service members, planting trees, holding flags, and sharing stories with the families of the finest men and women in the world. Dody was a life member and leader of the Girl Scouts. She loved to read, sew, tend her flower gardens, and travel to craft shows. Dody was always willing to open her home to anyone in need and was known as Mamma Dody or Aunt Dody by many people. She attended St. Luke Lutheran Church.

Dody married Kirby Robertson on December 28, 1977. She later married Charles Berg on July 28, 1990 in Wheaton, Kansas. He survives at their home.

Dody is survived by her children; Amanda Miller (Jerod) of Blaine, and Tobias Ketchell (Karma) of New Orleans; Her grandchildren Kristie Smith (Foster Patton), Eveyln Robertson, Alia Robertson, Aubrie McCallum, and Charlotte McCallum; her siblings, Pat Forsberg (Roger), Dennis Plummer, Barbara Reed (Ralph), Conradena Plummer, Jeanne Devader (Steve), and Sam Quigley. Dody was preceded in death by her parents, her son Sergeant First Class Forrest Robertson, and her siblings, Michael Plummer and Kate Lewis.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton. Reverend Terry DeGiovanni will be officiating. Burial will follow in Moodyville cemetery. The family will greet friends at the church on Tuesday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Mary Ann Moege, 88, of Alma, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021 in Alma Manor Nursing Home. She was a long-time member of the community.

Born January 27, 1933, in rural Riley County, Kansas, Mary was the daughter of Charles Bean and Anna Grunewald Bean.

Mary worked at the Knotty Pine Restaurant in Alma for a number of years. Mary was the custodian at St. John Lutheran Church and School for 18 years, a custodian at Wabaunsee High School for 9 years, a custodian at First National Bank in Alma for 18 years, a custodian for the Alma Post Office for 12 years and a custodian for Sprint Telephone Office for 23 years. She also did cleaning for many private homes around the community and was a caretaker for many older people in the area.

Mary was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Alma where she was a member of the Ladies Friendship Circle. She was an active member in the Spring Creek Community Club and attended Open Door and enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with her many friends and family. An avid K-State fan, Mary also enjoyed her trips to the Casino, Quilting and loved watching her family at their activities and sporting events.

She married Wilbur Moege on February 24, 1952 at St. John Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1989.

Mary is survived by her three daughters, Diana Rubottom and her husband Les, Shirley Degenhardt and her husband Charles and Gloria Mumpower and her husband Larry; a son, James Moege and his wife Leah; nine grandchildren, Eric Rubottom and his wife Erin, Ginger Ruhnke and her husband Matt, Crystal Marshall and her husband JaCory, Denise Dlugosch and her husband Brian, Harold Mumpower, Mary Fialkowski and her husband Joseph, Robert Moege, Jared Moege and Samantha Moege; sixteen great grandchildren; a brother, Vernon Bean and his wife Ardeth; a sister, Agnes Haller; a sister in law, Kay Bean; and many nieces and nephews and friends. Dennis L. Law, 77, passed November 2, 2021 after a battle with Parkinson’s disease at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community, Manhattan, Kansas. Law grew up on the family farm south of Plainview, Texas. He attended and graduated from Petersburg (Texas) High School in 1962. Law was a member of Kansas State University Landscape Architecture faculty for 38 years serving until he retired in 2009. Professor Law received his bachelor’s degree in Park Administration at Texas Tech University in 1967. After graduating, he worked in public and private practice until he earned a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture at Kansas State University while at the rank of instructor. Upon graduating with an MLA in 1974, Law was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1976. He served as Professor and Department Head in the Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning. He became Dean of the college of Architecture, Planning and Design in 1995. Among his many accomplishments as Dean, he marshalled the fund raising for significant renovation of Seaton Hall, successfully advocated for and fostered limited enrollment to the College, and presided over the successful conversion of the professional programs offered in the College from baccalaureate to non-baccalaureate master graduate programs. Dean Law has seen his landscape architecture come to life across the nation. His projects have included city parks, theme parks, residences, landscape development, plazas and reclamation plan for 43,000 acre site in western Wyoming. He has been and international speaker on global environmental issues, with more than 75 papers presented, including lectures to members of the Hungarian Parliament in Budapest, he also presented in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Shanghai, China; Warsaw, Poland; Prague, Czech Republic and San Jose, Costa Rica. In addition, he has written numerous books and other publications on planting design, reclamation of disturbed lands, environmental ethics, the design of a sustainable tropical farm using hydroponics systems in Costa Rica, and landscape architecture education. Dean Law was a fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects, Sigma Lambda Alpha National Landscape Architecture Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He has been recognized numerous times as one of America’s Most Admired Educators of Design Intelligence Magazine. Dean Law was honored in 1991 by the Blue Key National Honor Society and the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority for outstanding teaching. Preceding him in death were his parents, Alvin and Daisy Wilson Law. Law is survived by his wife, Linda Hyman Law, they married on December 20, 1964, in Brownfield, Texas, he and Linda are members of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. They had three children including Dwight (Melissa), also a landscape architect in Shanghai, China; Andrea Law who teaches in the English Language Program at Kansas State University; and Brent Law (Jeanine) active Army Reserves, who resides in Frisco, Texas. Dennis and Linda have four grandchildren, Josh Law who resides in Hawaii; Jaxon Carey and Mari Carey from Manhattan, Kansas; and Isabella Law, Frisco, Texas; Sister Sylvia Kay Law Morris (Otis) of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Dennis is known for paintings and drawings. He has years of experience in pen and ink drawings and acrylic paintings. In spite of having been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2015, Dennis continued to play racquetball with close friend Roger Allerheiligen, qualifying to compete in the Senior Olympics in 2015 and 2017 and won a silver and gold medal in the State of Kansas senior games. Dennis made a point of knowing the names of every student and speaking to them. He learned to say hello and goodbye in 35 languages so international students would feel welcome. At Christmas time Dennis and Linda would give each student two cookies. Memorial services for Law will be held on Sunday, December 19, 2:00 pm, at the First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz in Manhattan, with Pastor Melanie Nord officiating. Dennis donated his body to the Kansas University Medical Center; burial will be held at a later date in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan. Raymond Alvin McMillin, age 87, of Manhattan, Kansas, died November 3, 2021, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. He was born December 10, 1933, in Fort Worth, Texas, the son of Raymond John “Ray” and Mildred Frances (Castleman) McMillin. On June 23, 1956, at St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church, in Omaha, Nebraska, he was married to Imelda Alice Ryan. Alvin graduated from Junction City High School in 1952 and earned a business degree in 1956 at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Alvin’s career included accounting and managing the Cooper Theatre, Denver, Colorado and the Indian Hills Theatre, Omaha, Nebraska. His lifetime hobby was photography, with a passion for taking pictures of family and friends. He lived in Junction City, Kansas from 1969 to 2016 where he managed the McMillin family business, City Ice Company, Inc. After retirement he worked as a seasonal tax preparer for H&amp;R Block and was a bookkeeper and inventory data entry specialist for Hop-N-Skip C-Store and McMillin’s Retail Liquor. He devoted much of his time to many service organizations in Junction City and Manhattan as well as continued to care for his lovely wife, the love of his life, genuinely treated her like his queen. They moved to Manhattan in 2016. He was a member of St. Xavier Catholic Church in Junction City and later St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Manhattan. He was also a member of the Sertoma Club, served as an elected official of USD 475 Board of Education and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Junction City, Manhattan, and Arvada, Colorado. Survivors include his wife Imelda of the home; four children: R.A. McMillin-Beckman (Rebecca) of Junction City, Catherine Ann Sandoval (Pete) of Manhattan, George Ryan McMillin (Donna) of Herington, and Mark Thomas McMillin (Teresa) of Manhattan; two siblings: Frances Ann Willert of Germany and Otto John McMillin of Manhattan; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents and by one sister Mary Jane O’Neill. A Parish Vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel. Melvin O. Howard, 79, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Stonybrook Retirement Home in Manhattan, KS. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2021, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 9719 Clarks Creek Road, with Pastor Tim McCall officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Melvin was born November 14, 1941, in Junction City, KS the son of Merwin Roscoe and Rose Mae (Miles) Howard. Melvin grew up in Junction City and graduated from Junction City High School. He married Janice Lee Heller. Janice passed away earlier this year on February 5, 2021. Melvin and Janice owned and operated a vacuum service and sales business in Junction City for many years. Melvin was a long time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. Melvin and Janice enjoyed traveling to Branson, MO together vacationing. Survivors include two daughters; Cathy Andrews of Junction City, KS and Elsie Notestine of Savannah, Ga; two brothers, Milton Howard and his wife Carolynn and Michael Howard and with wife Agatha; four grandsons, Joshua, Justin, Clinton and Jason and four great-grandchildren. Trujilda "Tru" Mitchell, 60, of Junction City, KS, a long-time resident has gone to be in the presence of her Father and Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Geary Community Hospital. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2021 at Church of Deliverance in Junction City, KS. A visitation will be held one hour to service time at the church Friday. Tru was born June 23, 1961 in San Andres Islas, Colombia the place where she was eager to return. She was the daughter of Cristobal Mitchell and Victoria Christopher Tru received a Certificate of Completion in Nursing Assistance from Cloud County Community College. She worked as a private duty home aide providing personal care for many people. To insure a home for her daughters, she also took a position working with a private janitorial service. She loved praising God, thrift shopping at Goodwill and eating out at Taco Bell. Tru enjoyed going to the YMCA swimming pool, riding the ATA Bus, sitting outside in her yard under the tree talking to friends and waving at everyone that drove by. Tru always showed friendliness. She always stated, "Because I'm really, really, really blessed! She always greeted everyone with a warm smile. She would bend over backwards, to help everyone in whatever way she could. You never had to ask what she was thinking because she was going to tell you whether you wanted to hear it or not. To know her was to love her. She left her mark wherever she went. Her vibrant colors and love for God, family friends and year round Christmas lights. She designated herself as the family doula by traveling and providing assistance when her daughters and nieces had new arrivals. One of her greatest joys in life was raising her three beautiful daughters to be best friends and have each other’s back no matter what. She was a phenomenal mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, care giver and loved serving others with no discrimination of person. Anyone wishing to see Trujilda again will have to go to heaven, since heaven has become her new residence. Survivors include three daughters, Hannah (Sherman) Elmore, Aderly Escalona and Jiseth Smith Mitchell; two brothers, Rodrigo and Daniel; six sisters, Lozeta, Francia, Yolanda, Adelita, Florencia, Lilly, Micaela and Asny; five grandchildren, Sherman Jr, Jonahh, Victor, Jeanne and Kyoni; two goddaughters, Yashly and Tashany, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends. Melvin Ray Griggs, age 81 of Clay Center, left this earthly life on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, being cared for at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House and surrounded by his loving family.


Mel was the second son that came into this life on September 22, 1940, to Merle and Minerva (Armbruster) Griggs.  He lived out his childhood and attended school at Kipp, Kansas.

He married Donna Jean Henry on November 9, 1958.

His last weeks were surrounded with laughter and joy with his family.

  He is survived by his wife, Donna of Clay Center; first born son, Kevin and wife Anita of Clay Center; daughter, Kimberly and her life partner Scott of Stilwell; daughter Kay and husband Tim of Topeka; last born Kent and wife Brandi of Clay Center; nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;He also has a bundle of nieces and nephews on both sides of his family.

&nbsp;He was blessed with a lot of preciousness.

He will join his family that has passed before him and God to enjoy peace, beauty and contentment. His brother Vern passed this year and he lost his father in 1951 and his mother in 1986. He gave his talents with love, as a gift to churches wherever he landed including&nbsp;40&nbsp;plus years at the St Paul’s Episcopal, always on call to use his expertise.

He and wife Donna moved to Clay Center in 1968 and purchased Jackson Electric motor repair and expanded it into Griggs Electric. His skills were God given and he could fix almost anything.



A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Clay Center United Methodist Family life center with Pastor Reuben Langat officiating. In lieu of respects calls, the family will be available to greet his cherished friends of the community at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday before service.

A family graveside service will be after lunch at the Broughton Cemetery on the hill overlooking the abundant Clay County landscapes where Mel enjoyed his photography.

Rita Faye Henry, age 84 of Randolph, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021 at her residence.

She was born at her family home in Leonardville on January 28, 1937, the daughter of Lewis and Vera (Young) Faulkender. 

On June 26, 1955 in Topeka, she married Larry Lee Henry.  He survives of the home.

Early in her working years, Rita was a CRA and CNA.  Once her children were born, she became a full-time housewife and enjoyed raising all animals.  She was an avid K-State fan and was even deputized so she could ride with her husband while he transported inmates to different towns. 

 

In addition to her husband Larry Henry, she is survived by three sons, William Henry and wife Laurie of Westmoreland, Dallas Henry and wife Bridgett of Randolph and Eric Henry of Westmoreland; one sister, Nola Jean Renner of Manhattan; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Iris Smith.

Memorial services are pending and will be announced later by the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Gary William Beck, age 91, formerly of Clay Center, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021 in the Journey House at Tabitha Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Gary was born at his grandmother’s home in Seneca on September 8, 1930, the son of William Elmer and Gladys Marie (Cross) Beck.  He was raised on his parent’s farm outside Centralia and graduated from Centralia High School in 1948 where he played football and the trumpet. He worked on the family farm after high school until he served in the United States Air Force from 1952 until 1956.  He then went to Kansas State University and joined the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and participated in Block and Bridle.  He graduated from KSU in 1960 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science.

His first job after graduating was as a meat grader working with the USDA for meat packing plants in Garden City and Dodge City, KS.  In 1963 he moved to Papillion, NE to work as the Farm Service Director at Clarke Bank. He married Mary Ellen Gaither on June 12, 1965 and they later had two children, Barry and Amy Jo.  They moved to Clay Center, KS in 1966 as Gary was hired as the Agricultural Banking Officer at Union State Bank. Gary was an active member of the community and the Clay Center United Methodist Church.  He was in the Kansas Livestock Association, Clay County Feeders, Leader of Methodist Youth Fellowship, General Chairman of the Piotique Celebration in 1968 and president of Methodist Men in 1970. In 1970 he began a successful career in real estate and led Gary Beck &amp; Associates Motel Brokers for the next 20 years.  In 1980 he was President of Nationwide Motel Brokers Association and joined the Sesostris Shrine Band playing his trumpet.  After Gary and Mary Ellen divorced in 1983 he married Mary Louise Dreiling on December 20, 1986.  In 1990 he began a second career as an Independent Insurance Agent specializing in Life and Health spanning the next 30 years.

Gary was a loyal KSU football fan with season tickets for over 50 years. He was an avid golfer for many years and enjoyed summers on his houseboat at Milford Lake. He completed many projects at his house in Clay Center including a large patio and fireplace made from limestone.  He loved to cook, bake, grill and smoke meats.

His biggest passion was music.  Even though the trumpet was his main instrument he also played piano, violin, clarinet, banjo and ukulele.  He and Mary also sang in the church choir. He played the trumpet in the Clay Center City Band, Manhattan Municipal Band, The Thundering Cats as well as a Dixieland Band he created that performed many years at Piotique.  He also played the violin in the Morganville Community Chamber Orchestra.  He was a very proud member of Bugles Across America, playing taps at countless funerals over the years to honor veterans.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy Jo (George) Suarez of Lincoln, NE; his grandson, Nathan Suarez of Lincoln, NE; five nephews; two nieces; 13 great nieces and nephews; 23 great-great nieces and nephews and the mother of his children, Mary Ellen Gaither of Humboldt, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Louise Beck; his son Barry Alan Beck; three sisters, Berniece (Glen) Heiser, Maxine (Celestine) Gudenkauf and Bette (Edward) Fager and one nephew.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2021 at the Clay Center United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday.

Darla Lee Cadoret, 87 of Manhattan, KS passed away on October 22, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan. Darla was born December 6, 1933 in Stockton, KS. Darla graduated from Stockton High School on May 16, 1952. She married the love of her life, Joseph Cadoret, on November 18,1951 in Stockton. Darla and Joe’s love was nothing short of inspiring. She is survived by her daughters Kim (Doug) French of Stockton and Pamela Herl of North Platte, NE; grandchildren: Guy, Heather (Cameron), Amanda French; Courtney (Brian) Carpenter, Charlee Simpson (Aaron), and Stephanie Miner (Josh); as well as 17 great-grandchildren; sister Connie (Duane) Forbes, brothers: Dale and David Baxter and sister-in-law Bonnie Baxter. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, parents Charles and Flossie Baxter, her brother Don Baxter, sister-in-law Carolyn Baxter, and great-granddaughter Graycee Carpenter. Darla’s career as a licensed child care provider spanned decades and she loved each child as her own. The connections she made with the families had a lasting impression as she still received cards and updates to this day. She was lifelong in her faith and enjoyed her daily devotions. Darla and Joe traveled to Arizona many winters and you could find them playing Mexican train, shopping, and visiting with her family and friends. Darla enjoyed cooking, and her family would always request her famous peanut pie and Special K bars at every reunion and family holiday gathering. Darla Lee Cadoret, 87 of Manhattan, KS passed away on October 22, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan. Darla was born December 6, 1933 in Stockton, KS. Darla graduated from Stockton High School on May 16, 1952. She married the love of her life, Joseph Cadoret, on November 18,1951 in Stockton. Darla and Joe’s love was nothing short of inspiring. She is survived by her daughters Kim (Doug) French of Stockton and Pamela Herl of North Platte, NE; grandchildren: Guy, Heather (Cameron), Amanda French; Courtney (Brian) Carpenter, Charlee Simpson (Aaron), and Stephanie Miner (Josh); as well as 17 great-grandchildren; sister Connie (Duane) Forbes, brothers: Dale and David Baxter and sister-in-law Bonnie Baxter. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, parents Charles and Flossie Baxter, her brother Don Baxter, sister-in-law Carolyn Baxter, and great-granddaughter Graycee Carpenter. Darla’s career as a licensed child care provider spanned decades and she loved each child as her own. The connections she made with the families had a lasting impression as she still received cards and updates to this day. She was lifelong in her faith and enjoyed her daily devotions. Darla and Joe traveled to Arizona many winters and you could find them playing Mexican train, shopping, and visiting with her family and friends. Darla enjoyed cooking, and her family would always request her famous peanut pie and Special K bars at every reunion and family holiday gathering. Her first job after high school was in the bookkeeping department of a local bank for one year. She was employed with US District Court Clerk’s Office in Wichita for over nine years where she took a leave to assist with her father’s care. Later she returned to US District Court in Kansas City, KS, working for Judge Miller for over six years. She was married to Carl William Brockman on July 25, 1975. They lived most of their lives together in Manhattan, KS. Carl preceded her in death on March 8, 2021. Mary was also preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Virginia L. Beat (Richard) Balbierz, Albert E. “Bud” Beat, Roy H. Beat, and Jeanne A. Beat (Ervin) Miller; and one niece Sherry Balbierz King. Mary Christine “Christy” Wilhite, 68, of Junction City, KS, peacefully passed away and joined the Lord on November 14th, 2020.&nbsp;&nbsp;Johnson Funeral Home of Junction City is assisted the family with cremation arrangements.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Christy was born on June 17th, in Junction City, KS, to Clarence and Jeanne (Davin) Ehm.&nbsp;&nbsp;Being a lifelong resident of Junction City, Christy attended, and graduated from, St. Xavier Catholic School, the same parish where she remained a member of for the entirety of her life.&nbsp;&nbsp;On April 8th, 1972, she married the love of her life Richard Wilhite, with whom she enjoyed 48 years of marriage, love and happiness.&nbsp;Family was always first for Christy, and she took great pride in raising her family with Richard.&nbsp;&nbsp;In doing so, she spent the first part of her career working as a caring homemaker and mother.&nbsp;&nbsp;As her family grew, she started to work part-time at KJCK radio station, before moving on to work for USD 475 as an administrative assistant at the Middle School, for many, many years.&nbsp;&nbsp;In the recent past she made a final career-move, working at the family business, Wilhite Moving and Storage.&nbsp;

Over the years, Christy had many interests and hobbies; early in her life, these were her children, their activities and all things involved; and later in life these graduated to her grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;Aside from her love of family, Christy was artfully talented and she loved teaching herself new things such as calligraphy, photography, and “making photo shows” of, and for, her children and grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;Christy was an avid "sewist", loved to read, and write, and had an inherent love of nature and the outdoors.&nbsp;&nbsp;She loved flowers, planting with her husband, and bird watching, the latter an appreciation she gained from her mother.&nbsp;&nbsp;Christy was a dog-lover.&nbsp;&nbsp;Once her kids were grown and gone, she and Richard became parents to two, large, golden retrievers that she loved dearly.&nbsp;&nbsp;Christy was a devout catholic and never, ever, missed Mass.&nbsp;&nbsp;Above all, Christy was a devoted wife, loving and caring grandmother and a loyal friend.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Edward Eugene “Ed” Jones passed away Friday, October 22, 2021 at Geary Community Hospital.&nbsp; Ed has been cremated. A visitation to celebrate his life will be 5-7 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the Johnson Funeral Home.&nbsp;

He was born in Junction City, KS on November 23, 1966, the son of Paul and Shannon.&nbsp; He attended school in Junction City, before graduating from Redlands High School in Redlands, CA in 1985. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, later receiving a medical discharge. He lived in Florida, Tennessee and Maine before returning to Junction City in 2014.&nbsp; He worked in various occupations, retiring in 2020.&nbsp;

Ed liked being outdoors.&nbsp; He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle.&nbsp; He loved his pets; two cats, and two dogs that he and his fiancé, Tammy, often took out to the lake to play.

He is survived by his children, Anthony Jones and Emilee Jones, father, Paul Jones, mother Shannon LaMunyon and her husband Dennis , fiancé, Tammy White, sister, Cindy (Bill) Ahlers, uncle and aunts Mel and Barbara Wagner and Dixie Goble, granddaughter, Abby, niece and nephew, Ariana and Chase Ahlers as well as a host of other family and friends.

Carol Joyce (Milligan) Pickerel, 83, Lawrence died Friday, October 22nd at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas.

Carol was born March 28, 1938 on her family’s farm near Clay Center, Kansas to Glen and Geraldine Milligan. She was a graduate of the Clay Center High School Class of 1956. She devoted several years to caring for her children at home, and then later worked for many years in title companies in both Lawrence and Clay Center. She was also active in her community and church, as well as spending time with her grandchildren.

Carol married Jack Pickerel in 1956 in Clay Center, Kansas, and they remained faithful to each other for 60 years until Jack’s passing in 2016. Together they had three children: Scott in 1958, Kathy in 1959, and Mark in 1968.

Carol is survived by her brother Randy and his wife Zita; her oldest son Scott and his wife Betty; her youngest son Mark and his wife Linda, along with their two sons Matthew and Alex; her deceased daughter Kathy’s husband Russell; her granddaughter Lindsay and her husband Nathan, along with their children Landon and Piper; and her grandson Spencer and his wife Katie, along with their children Luke and Emma.

Visitation for Carol will be held on Friday, October 29th at 12:30 p.m. at Neill-Schwensen-Rook funeral home in Clay Center, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

She will be interred at Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her greatest love was her faithful companion Grassy (her dog). What made her the most proud was seeing her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren grow up. Spending every minute with them made her life worthwhile. She treasured her friends and her church family. She enjoyed sitting on the front porch reading and embroidering. She loved her country life. Her door was always open to friends and family. Pamela came from humble beginnings which blessed her with a spirit of appreciation and gratitude for the littlest things. Pamela and her siblings grew up in a military home and lived in Virginia, Nebraska, and finally ending up in Kansas. While in Kansas, Pamela learned how to cook and upkeep the house where she would blast oldies from the 50’s and 60’s and cleaning, dance, and help take care of her siblings. She loved listening to Elvis, Beatles, Beegees, and so many more. Pamela had a love for finding the sunshine in everything, even the dark times, she always used to tell us kids that our sufferings are our blessings.

In 1972 she met Gordon Kury and they got married and had moved to Custer, South Dakota. They welcomed their three children; Chris, Alicia, and Becca. She spent her years in South Dakota teaching her children to reach for their goals while she was their biggest supporter. She would be at every sporting event cheering them on, cooking homemade meals, and holidays were where she shined. She loved making treats and meals for holidays and never forgot the people that were unable to be with us in person. She would gather her kids and they would bake her famous treats; mud, cinnamon rolls, peanut butter balls, sugar cookies, and much more and make special cards and send them out to show her love for all of her family. To this day no other cinnamon rolls compare. Through the miles apart from friends and family she never missed a holiday, anniversary, or birthday. She had a card for everything and enjoyed having her grandchildren fill them out and send them to whomever they were missing, she always kept her word and mailed them out.

In 2004, Pam returned to Abilene Kansas and lived out her days enjoying time with her grandchildren. Everyone she met would be welcomed into her life and she had so many people that adored her and her company. She loved being a mother to all and making sure people knew that they were loved and wanted. She had a peacemaker’s heart and was always able to see the good in someone. No matter how difficult life would get, she would always point out something she was grateful for, even during the last few months of her life when she was at her weakest. Pamela’s love for the Black Hills and Kansas tied into her love for Wizard of Oz. She was passionate about coming from the state where the story is from and loved being able to call the state that the author was from home as well. She finally got to follow her yellow brick road home. Pamela will be forever missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son, Christopher (Cassie) Kury of Oakdale, Ct, her daughters, Alicia Kury of Slater, Mo and Becca Kury of Colorado Springs, Co. Her Brother Tim Tighe of Newton, Ks, and her sisters Becky Arenas of Abilene, Ks and Debbie Tighe Stegemiller of Rising Sun, IN. She was known as “Grandmama” to her beloved Samuel Kury, Sawyer Kury, Reighlei Galvan, Auryelah Galvan, Charalei Galvan, Taiellah Galvan, Quetzalcoatl Aviles Kury. She had many other people from her life that loved her as a second mother. Pamela is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Tighe Jr and Joyce Patterson. Three Brothers, Baby David Tighe, Buddy Joe Eschliman, Mark Tighe. Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m., Sunday, November 7th, 2021, at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Enterprise, Ks. There will be a Luncheon held afterwards at the basement of the Enterprise Library. Pamela Jean Kury (Tighe), age 65, of Abilene, passed away at Salina Regional Health Center on Friday October 15th, 2021. Pam was born in Nürnberg, Germany on June 20, 1956 to Paul and Joyce (Patterson) Tighe. Charlotte Welfringer, age 87, of Manhattan, died October 17, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. She was born on October 22, 1933 in Centralia, Kansas, the daughter of Francis and Goldia (Jeffrey) Dalsing. She grew up in the Axtell area, and graduated from Axtell High School with the class of 1951. Charlotte worked for many years for Farm Bureau in Manhattan. She enjoyed going to garage sales and yard sales. She traveled many places over the years in her RV with her siblings and created many memories. Charlotte also loved to crochet and baking food for family and friends. She always cherished spending as much time as she could with her family and her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Welfringer in 2008, also her parents and her five brothers and five sisters. Charlotte is survived by her children, Mary Welfringer, of St. George, Robert Welfringer (Connie), of Independence, Missouri, Richard Welfringer (Rosanne), of Parksville, New York, and Rodney Welfringer (Misti), of Manhattan; also, her seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services for Charlotte will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be held at the Valley View Memorial Park Cemetery in Manhattan. Lois Anne Morrison, age 76, of Manhattan, Kansas, died October 21, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Lois Anne Wiley Morrison was born on September 14, 1945 in Los Angeles, California. The daughter of the Rev. Lester V. (Vernon) Wiley and Barbara Anne Horton Wiley. As a minister’s family, they moved regularly and enjoyed it, looking at it as an adventure. She attended a private kindergarten in Ada, Oklahoma. Her favorite project was sewing the blanket stitch around a yellow stuffed oilcloth bunny (perhaps the beginning of her love of sewing). After kindergarten, the family moved to California. She attended 1st-3rd grade in Placerville, 4th grade at Arcadia School in Sacramento, 5th and 6th grade at Longfellow Elementary School in Pasadena, and Will Rogers Junior High in Long Beach for 7th and 8th grade. The family then moved to Kansas and she attended Manhattan Junior High for 9th grade and Clay County Community High School for 10th-12th grade. In the summer of 1963, she received a State of Kansas Scholarship to attend Kansas State University where she lived in West Hall her freshman and sophomore years and in the Alpha Xi Delta sorority house her junior year. From 1966 to 1969, she attended Jane C. Stormont School of Nursing in Topeka, Kansas where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. She met James William Morrison in zoology class at Kansas State University in 1964. They married on June 7, 1968 in Wichita, Kansas. They resided in Topeka until 1971 when they moved to Manhattan, Kansas. Upon moving to Manhattan, Lois joined First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and food pantry volunteer. She worked in the Recovery Room at St. Mary’s Hospital until she retired in 1983. She then worked part-time as a teaching assistant at Trinity Preschool for six years. Over the years she has been involved in a number of organizations: Alpha Xi Delta Alumnae (President, Secretary, Vice President), Prairie Roots Garden Club (Charter Member), Chapter GU of P.E.O. (Chaplain, Recording Secretary), Konza Prairie Quilters Guild (Board Member-At-Large, President), Sunshine Family and Community Education (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer), and Riley County Hemerocallis Society (Daylilies). She taught clothing construction, plant science, and yeast breads through 4-H. She loved to garden and became a Riley County Master Gardner in 1994 with over 25 years of service. She enjoyed playing bridge, pinochle, and dominos; sewing; quilting; reading mysteries; arranging flowers; and, traveling. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed their family adventures to Chile, England, Scotland, France and celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with the entire family in Alaska. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James William Morrison; three children, Julie Anne Morrison Dee, David William Morrison (Arin), Emily Anne Morrison; four grandchildren: Margaret Elizabeth Dee, Rebecca Anne Dee, Brenna Raye Morrison, Grant William Morrison, as well as a sister, Shirley Wiley Wright (Ottawa, KS) and her two daughters and sister-in-law, Nancy Raye Morrison Reedy (David) and their two sons. The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday October 27, 2021 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. Robert Winston Smith, 81, of Manhattan, passed away, Tuesday, September 8th, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House. Robert was born in Foxworth, Mississippi on July 11, 1939, the son of the late Mabel Elaine (Scarborough) and Robert Lamar Smith. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was the husband of Pamela Dee Smith and they were married on July 22, 1978 at the All Faiths Chapel on the campus of Kansas State University. He worked as the Superintendent at USD 313 in Buhler, Kansas. Robert also taught and was in the administration at the Abilene, Hutchinson, Manhattan School Districts. He also worked with the KSU Housing &amp; Dining. VFW, American legion, was a former Manhattan City Commissioner, he also was a very active member at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Pamela Dee Welch, 73 passed away on September 20, 2021 at her home. She was born September 24, 1947 in Omaha, NE to Raymond and Evelyn Welch. She married Robert W Smith on July 22, 1978 at the All Faiths Chapel in Manhattan, KS he preceded her in death in 2020. Also, Pam was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Evelyn Welch and a twin sister who died shortly after birth. Robert and Pamela are survived by their daughter Stephanie Kerr (David) of Kansas City, MO, a son Chad (Julie) Stein of Kansas City, KS. Step-daughter Anne Smith of Manhattan, Step-daughter Cathy Childs of Topeka. Pam had six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Pam has a sister Melody (Dave) Hiatt of Omaha, NE and a brother Dennis (Melanie) Welch of Council Bluffs, IA and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of life will be at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 10:00a.m. Inurnment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
