Helen F. Lambert, 90, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Geary Community Hospital. A private family graveside service will be held at Fort Riley Post Cemetery. Helen was born September 1, 1931, in Los Angeles, CA the daughter of Charles and Flora (Mundt) Dean. She moved to Junction City, KS in 1963 with her family. She worked at the Homestead Motel and Dreamland Motel for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo at the Eagle's Lodge. She married Oscar Glander in 1951. They were later divorced. In 1971, she married Marvin P. Lambert. He passed away in 1996. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon M. Gump of Junction City, KS and Cathy Romano of Plainville, CT; one brother, Philip Lambert of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Maxine (Gardner) Branfort died September 4, 2021, at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, KS at the age of 94.&nbsp; Max was born in the Sherman community September 29, 1926, in Clay County, KS to Guy and Babe (Bouley) Gardner. On October 2, 1944, she was united in marriage to Bill Branfort, they were married 68 years. Max farmed alongside Bill and was a busy farm wife and mom to 3 kids. Although she was busy, she was always the first to volunteer for helping with school, church, sports and any activity her children were involved in.

After her kids were on their own, she was employed at the First National Bank and Turner Funeral Home in Clifton, KS.&nbsp; She was a volunteer for Meadowlark Hospice and Clifton Community Care Nursing Home. Taking care of others was her lifelong mission.

Her hobbies were sewing, knitting, doing embroidery work, she loved to play cards and was in several card clubs and bridge clubs.

She was a member of Faith United Church, the Willing Helpers Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary post 227 where she served as unit President and also served as District President.

She is preceded by her husband Bill Branfort; sons Phillip Branfort and Mark Branfort; her siblings, Raymond and Dorothy Gardner, Doran Gardner, Mary Rowland; and her beloved little sister Ada.

Dina R. Bruce, age 53, of Solomon, passed away Friday, September 3, 2021 at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina. She was born January 15, 1968 in Claremore, Oklahoma the daughter of Corbett and Judith (McCamish) Smith. Dina was a longtime area resident graduating from Abilene High School and received her CNA certificate. Dina worked as a receptionist for Abilene Physical Therapy &amp; Sports Rehab. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her mother Judith Read of Solomon, sons Joshua Hudson and his fiancé Courtney Macoubrie of Solomon. Darlene was a bookkeeper for several businesses in the Herington area and was the owner of an antique store. Edrena worked at A1 Salvage, Montgomery Wards and at Meadowlark Hills prior to having daycare in her home for 20 plus years. Edrena loved children and thoroughly enjoyed providing daycare for the children. Michael Raymond “Spanky” Fenwick (65), originally from Floyd Knobs, Indiana, passed away August 30, 2021 from ALS. Michael was born January 19, 1956 in New Albany, Indiana. His parents were the late Wilbur Gene “Joe” Fenwick, Patricia Roseanne Fenwick, and stepmother Shirley Fenwick. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wilbur Gene “Sonny” Fenwick. Michael served in the U.S. Army from 1977 to 1989. He then worked for Larson Construction from 1989 to 2019. Due to disease, Michael retired. He is survived by his wife, Teresa, of 37 years. His sons, Michael Bradley (Kristen), Derrick Michael (Angel), and daughter Danielle Nicole Hamilton (Justin). Michael had 11 grandchildren. Also, surviving are Michael’s sisters, Pam Rogge (Stuart), Diana Dalton (Wesley), and Charlotte Jacobi (Brian). Michael has a stepbrother, Albert Mills, and two stepsisters, Connie Tedesco and Tracy Burgin. Michael was extremely devoted to his family and a very hard worker. Dennis Ray Stauffer, 79, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, August 28th, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Dennis was born in Westmoreland, Kansas on June 21st, 1942, and a son of the late Lois Beryl (Hough) and George Edward Stauffer. &nbsp;In 1960 he graduated from Westmoreland High School. He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Holder on October 6, 1962, at the St. Bernards Catholic Church in Wamego, they have been married for nearly 59 years. On his 62nd birthday, in 2004,&nbsp;Dennis retired after&nbsp;working for 40 years as an agricultural mechanic at both Meinhardt Equipment and Kan-Equip in Wamego. While in-between working and home life, he was a member of the Topeka Touring Society, which he and Betty enjoyed touring on his motorcycle to 49 states and Mexico. Dennis is survived by his wife Betty Lou Stauffer of Wamego, and son, David Wayne Stauffer and wife Cathy, of The Villages, Florida, also surviving is his brother, Donald Jay Stauffer of Mentor, Ohio. &nbsp;He is preceded in death by his parents George Edward and Lois Beryl Stauffer. Dennis Ray (Red) Stauffer

John F. Lichtenhan, 87, of Wamego, Kansas, died Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at his home. He was a life-long resident of the community. John was born April 24, 1934, in Wamego, the son of George and Bertha (Riat) Lichtenhan.

He attended St. Bernard’s grade school and graduated from Wamego High School. John was an Eagle Scout and attended National Jamborees in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, and Irvine Ranch, California. While in High School, John held the school record for many years in pole vault, vaulting over&nbsp; 11 feet while using a bamboo pole.&nbsp; He then attended Kansas State University and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. John then served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne from 1957 until 1960, stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

John was a born entrepreneur. He started working by delivering groceries for candy bars when he was too young to cross the streets, so he limited himself to the houses on his own block. He owned and operated many different businesses; Lichtenhan Excavating, Lichtenhan Plumbing and Heating, Lichtenhan Retail Liquor, The Trade Winds Supper Club, (twice), Guys Tavern, The Office, Ted’s Motel, and the Twistee Freeze, Spruce Street apartments, and the Hilltop Hotel. He also had some success raising hogs and with ostrich/rhea farming.

&nbsp;John served as a Wamego City Commissioner and Mayor from 1986 until 1990. He then served as a Pottawatomie County Commissioner from 1997 until 2001.

He was a great storyteller and enjoyed playing cards and chess.&nbsp; He loved to travel. One of his biggest disappointments was not being able to complete a trip to China due to the Covid Pandemic.&nbsp; John married Ronda Kolterman on August 6, 1960, having just celebrated their 61st anniversary. Ronda survives at their home. John F. Lichtenhan, 87, of Wamego, Kansas, died Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at his home. He was a life-long resident of the community. John was born April 24, 1934, in Wamego, the son of George and Bertha (Riat) Lichtenhan.He attended St. Bernard’s grade school and graduated from Wamego High School. John was an Eagle Scout and attended National Jamborees in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, and Irvine Ranch, California. While in High School, John held the school record for many years in pole vault, vaulting over&nbsp; 11 feet while using a bamboo pole.&nbsp; He then attended Kansas State University and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. John then served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne from 1957 until 1960, stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.John was a born entrepreneur. He started working by delivering groceries for candy bars when he was too young to cross the streets, so he limited himself to the houses on his own block. He owned and operated many different businesses; Lichtenhan Excavating, Lichtenhan Plumbing and Heating, Lichtenhan Retail Liquor, The Trade Winds Supper Club, (twice), Guys Tavern, The Office, Ted’s Motel, and the Twistee Freeze, Spruce Street apartments, and the Hilltop Hotel. He also had some success raising hogs and with ostrich/rhea farming.&nbsp;John served as a Wamego City Commissioner and Mayor from 1986 until 1990. He then served as a Pottawatomie County Commissioner from 1997 until 2001.He was a great storyteller and enjoyed playing cards and chess.&nbsp; He loved to travel. One of his biggest disappointments was not being able to complete a trip to China due to the Covid Pandemic.&nbsp; John married Ronda Kolterman on August 6, 1960, having just celebrated their 61st anniversary. Ronda survives at their home. Betty Mae Hodgins, 88, of Westmoreland, Kansas, died at her home on Thursday, September 2, 2021. She had been a member of the community for twenty years.

Betty was born on May 5, 1933, in Wamego, the daughter of Loren and Mary (Duncan) Picolet. She was raised in Frankfort and graduated from Frankfort High School.

Betty married Harvey Ogden and only after a short time, he was killed in a logging accident. Betty then married Virgil Keller. They lived in Riley until they later divorced. She then married Billy Hodgins and moved to Mississippi. They also were later divorced.

Betty spent many years as a homemaker. She also cleaned houses for local area families and was a waitress at the Calico Inn in Riley. While living in Mississippi, Betty drove thirty miles to attend Beauty School and graduated as a licensed Beautician at the age of fifty. She ran her own shop and did hair in her home while there. Betty then moved back to Kansas.

Betty loved to dance, and she loved to sing. For a short time she sang and played in a local band. She also played bass guitar. She enjoyed gardening, loved all animals, but especially her pet dog, Dolly and her cat, Bernie. Betty was very independent and frugal. Even after losing her eyesight in the last years of her life, she insisted on living in her own home, and did so very successfully.

Betty is survived by her children; Amber Shuman, Manhattan, Aaron Keller (Anestatia), Westmoreland, and Joe Keller, St. George; her grandchildren, Tyler Keller, Wichita, Blake Keller, Kansas City, Missouri, Bryan Keller, Lawrence, Sarah Denning (Sean) South Korea, and Holden Moyer (Brianna), Jacksonville, Florida, and her great-grandchildren, Gemma, Poppy, and Arlo; her siblings, Merle Picolet, Davenport, Iowa, Jim Picolet (Connie), Frankfort, Darlene Nemecheck (Elaine Griebel), Falls City, Nebraska, and Judy Fleeker (Charles), Manhattan. Edna Louise Palenske, age 101, of Alma, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Bonner Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bonner Springs, Kansas. Edna was born April 17, 1920, in Alma, Kansas. She was the daughter of Henry Laging and Ida (Soelter) Laging.

On March 27, 1941, Edna married Roy Edgar Palenske in Alma, Kansas. Roy and Edna spent their 71 years of marriage on their farm in the beautiful Flint Hills, near Alma, before Roy passed away on April 3, 2012. Edna and Roy had two children, Gary Lee and Ray Gene. They grew a variety of crops and livestock on the farm, raised large flocks of turkey and laying hens, and also bred pedigreed Cairn Terriers. Edna was a very independent and resourceful lady and continued to live on the family farm after Roy’s death until she was 96 years old. Edna was a prolific master quilter and was well known for her exquisite hand-made quilts and sense of humor. She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, fishing, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edna was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ in Alma, Kansas.

Among Edna’s survivors are her son, Ray Palenske, of Basehor, Kansas; three grandchildren: Debra Burton (Shawn) of Basehor, Kansas, Brian Palenske of Basehor, Kansas and Charla Rasmussen (Robert) of Grand Island, Nebraska; and five great-grandchildren: Lauren, Celia, MacKenzie, Allison, and Christopher. Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Edgar Laging; two sisters, Ella (Laging) Lundberg and Olga (Laging) Mogge; and her son, Gary.

Carol Janet Ebert, 79, of Wamego, Kansas, died Thursday, September 2, 2021, at her home, following a battle with cancer. She was a long-time resident of the area.

Carol was born on September 16, 1941, in Wakefield, Kansas, the daughter of Horace and Pauline (Vanderwilt) Wood. She attended grade school and graduated from Wakefield High School. Carol then graduated from the University of California - Berkley with a bachelor's degree and then a master’s degree from Sacramento State University in English.

Carol taught English for 4 years at Kansas State University and then twenty-five years at Highland Community College. She also taught many years online. Prior to her teaching career, Carol was a farm wife and owned and operated an arts and crafts business, Ebert’s Herbs, which made homemade crafts filled with herbs and Potpourri. She also milled her own wheat flour and published two different wheat cookbooks. Carol was known for her dozen variations of cinnamon rolls, pies and donuts.

Carol loved to garden, raise flowers and bake. She was an experienced traveler and enjoyed bringing her family along. She traveled to Alaska, Iceland, and Europe. She enjoyed going on various cruises and visiting places across the country. Carol loved her family and especially loved the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren.

Carol is survived by her son, Neil Ebert (Laura) of Wamego; her grandchildren, Logan Ebert, Megan Ebert, Emmy Ebert, and Sadie Ebert, all of Wamego; and her brother, Allen Wood, Wakefield. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Rachel Ebert, and her sister Nelva Peck.

Jayson Patrick Ebert, 21, of Wamego, Kansas, died Sunday, September 5, 2021, at his home.

Jayson was born on January 25, 2000, in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of James Edmund Ebert II and Jennifer Lynn (Weixelman) Ebert. He attended grade school in Wamego and graduated in 2018 from Wamego High School. Jayson enjoyed sports, and played for the Red Raiders in basketball, football, golf, and baseball. He was an exceptional athlete and excelled in everything he did.

Since graduation, Jayson has worked as a heavy equipment operator for Ebert Construction. He enjoyed hunting, playing golf, video games, and time out at the lake, especially jet skiing.

Jerry S. Dye, 81, of Junction City, KS, passed away September 1, 2021 at Good Shepherd Hospice Center in Manhattan, KS. Cremation has taken place per Jerry’s wishes.

Jerry was born in Villa Rica, GA on December 18, 1939 to William H. Dye and Mary E. Dye. Due to his father’s service in the military, Jerry attended many different schools including 2 ½ years in Wuerzburg, Germany. He ultimately graduated from Junction City high school in 1957. Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp and frequently said “Once a Marine, always a Marine.” He loved to work on cars, so he owned and operated his own auto mechanic business in Junction City for 40 years.

Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church in Junction City where he served as a Trustee and a Deacon for many years. He was also a member of Gideons International since 1991.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Terrell “Ted” Dye, and 2 infant bothers. He is survived by his wife, Gail Dye; two sons, Scot (Amy) Dye of Manhattan, KS; Darin (Holly) Dye of Fredericksburg, VA; granddaughters Caitlin Dye and Evangeline Dye; grandsons Daniel Dye and Nicholas Caudle; sister, Megan Elaine Rose of Villa Rica, GA; many other family members and friends.

The family has planned a visitation time with family and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at First Baptist Church, 7th and Jefferson, Junction City.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at a later date and inurnment will be in Welcome Cemetery in South Eastern Geary County.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Dye; two sons, Scot (Amy) Dye of Manhattan, KS; Darin (Holly) Dye of Fredericksburg, VA; granddaughters Caitlin Dye and Evangeline Dye; grandsons Daniel Dye and Nicholas Caudle; sister, Megan Elaine Rose of Villa Rica, GA; many other family members and friends. The family has planned a visitation time with family and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at First Baptist Church, 7th and Jefferson, Junction City.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at a later date and inurnment will be in Welcome Cemetery in South Eastern Geary County. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested for First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 31, Junction City, KS, or Gideons International, P.O. Box 1351, Junction City, KS. Mary Evelyn (Ihloff) Watson was born July 19, 1920, in Greensburg, Ks.&nbsp; 
She was the daughter of Charles Belmont Ihloff and Helen May Cobb 
Ihloff.&nbsp; Mary was three years old when the family moved to Jetmore where
 her dad bought the Ford Dealership.

She was involved in many school activities and Girl Scouts as she 
grew up.&nbsp; Upon graduation from high school, Mary went to Kansas 
University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and 
Science with the class of 1943.&nbsp; She then moved to Junction City, Kansas
 where she was a Social Worker.

In 1948, she and Major Henry (Luke) P. Watson were married at Fort 
Riley Chapel in Fort Riley, Kansas.&nbsp; Mary followed her husband to many 
Army Airbases around the world.&nbsp; They were fluent in Spanish and 
French.&nbsp; They were both accomplished artists and visited every Art 
Museum and library possible.&nbsp; Having no children, their lives together 
were focused on each other and their extended families.&nbsp; They loved us 
well.

They eventually bought a beautiful home in Summerville, South 
Carolina.&nbsp; After Luke’s passing, Mary moved to Dodge City, Kansas where 
she could be close enough to take care of her aging mother.&nbsp; In 2007, 
Mary moved to Bramley Place in Jetmore to be closer to Carolyn and 
family as she aged.&nbsp; On Feb. 19, 2018, Mary went to live in the Long 
Term Care in Jetmore.&nbsp; She remained there until her passing on Sept. 4, 
2021 at the amazing age of 101!

Mary had the wonderful gift of being so interested in and loving the 
people around her.&nbsp; So even though her contemporaries are gone, she left
 behind family and friends that will always remember her and smile.

Survivors include: niece, Carolyn (Joe) Tarman, Jetmore; nephew, 
Charlie W. Ihloff, Dodge City; seven great nieces and nephews; 
twenty-three great great nieces and nephews and a long time friend, 
Sherri Merica.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Howard W. Ihloff;

Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 10,

Mary Evelyn (Ihloff) Watson

My dad has passed away. Man through all my life I have never once had to do or say something as hard as saying that one sentence. As a child and young adult I never knew or appreciated all he did for me, but now that I look back I can see that everything he did was always for me. He did or said everything possible to make sure I succeeded and I think he felt my failures worse than I did. I think he blamed himself for any and everything that went wrong. He loved me that much. I don't know that I will ever be loved like that again. How do you say goodbye to that? I just keep thinking back to all of these random times with him. How he would take me fishing and every time he would have to get up and get something and I was watching his pole a fish would bite. Or how he would hide in the hallways and scare me when I was watching scary movies at night. I remember him teaching me to ride my bike, or making me a barbie house since he couldn't afford to get me one. He never knew how much I loved that or how much it meant to me as I got older and had kids and truely understood the work he put into it just so I could have one. I remember him standing outside the delivery room when my son was born. He would come and see me every day. He was my best friend. You know I told him many things when we knew his time was coming. I told him I loved him I told him he was a great dad. But I never had the courage to tell him how strong I thought he was. I think it would have embarassed him. At 17 this man went to Vietnam and saw so many many horrible things. He lived through situations we will only see in movies. He had to live through nightmares. He came home, not to be loved and called a hero, but to be shamed and condemed. He didn't come home alone though, he brought home many deamons in his mind. He brought home memories he would have to relive constantly. Then he met mom. She was the love of his life. I remember how they told me on their first date he told her he was going to marry her. They were a strong couple who had an even stronger love. She was always his number one and he was hers. I think mom was the only one he ever told about what he went through. Mom was the only person he trusted with that. How someone could have that going on in his head and still be such a good father and husband speaks to his strength. That was only one of his battles. Dad also battled alcoholism. He fought that every single day and after that gambling. He fought them and to me he won. He never went back to them. One thing dad wouldn't or couldn't do was back down. He was strong and brave. He saw it as is job to protect and take care of us all. From mom to even my children and husband, dad would do whatever it took. I knew no matter what time or day, if we hadn't talked for an hour or a month I could call him and he would be there. No matter what was going on dad made sure we had what we needed. And he made sure to tell us he loved us, even as a 40plus year old woman my dad would call just to tell me that he loved and missed me. Dad was also an amazing grandfather. He loved my kids and had cute little nicknames for all of them. He had a special bond with each and every one. I am so saddened that they wont have more time with him. \I know he is always going to be with me in my heart, but I'm sorry i'm selfish I wanted him to be here forever. I will miss him every single day and think of him every single day. I know in my head and in my heart that I had the best dad who loved me. Ditto Dad.

Brian Lynn Foreman, 49, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at his home in Junction City. Cremation will take place. A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date. Brian was born December 30, 1971, in Ashdown, Arkansas the son of Lonnie and Teresa (Trusty) Foreman. Brian married Karen Waller March 8, 1994 in Gulfport, Mississippi. In 1997, Brian and Karen moved to Junction City, KS. Brian was a roofer and roofing supervisor the biggest part of his life. In 2013, he started a flooring business "Brian's Piece of Work" with his daughter Briana. For eight years they worked together to build their business in the Junction City and Geary County area. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing and kayaking. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents as well as brothers Charles Stanley Strom of Enid, Oklahoma, Lonnie Strom of Dwight, Kansas and sisters Genevieve Glessner and Martha Jane Wood both of Junction City, Kansas. Merwin moved to New Hope Services of Valley Center, KS in 1988. While there he loved to socialize and spend time with staff and his peers. His favorite activities included having his hair cut, interacting with local school children that came to visit, Bingo, Art Therapy, and Karaoke ...just to name a few. Merwin was never seen without one if his favorite hats on or drinking a mountain dew. He loved his caregivers at New Hope, and he always made them smile. A graveside service and burial will be at the Dwight Cemetery in Dwight, Kansas on Thursday September 2, 2021, at 10am. Robin R. Johnson age 64, died in Salina, Kansas on August 28, 2021. She was born in Clay Center, Kansas on July 11, 1957, to Raymond and Florene (Lippe) Robinson.&nbsp; Robin grew up in the Clay Center community and was a graduate of Hays High School and attended two years of online education through the University of Phoenix. William “Bill” O'Donnell, 72 died August 20, 2021 in Topeka, KS.&nbsp; He was born on May 2, 1949 in Clay Center, the son of Max and Arlene (Mabie) O'Donnell.&nbsp; Bill was raised in Clay Center community.&nbsp; He was active Boy Scouts where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.&nbsp; Bill was also active in SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church where he served as an altar boy for Sunday Mass through grade school and Jr. High.&nbsp; Bill was a graduate of the CCCHS Class of 1967 and received first team, all state honors in basketball his Senior year.&nbsp; He attended the University of Notre Dame and played football for coach Ara Parseghian.&nbsp; Bill received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Notre Dame in 1971.&nbsp; In 1975, He received his MBA from UMKC.&nbsp; He worked as a bond broker in the Chicago area. For over 30 years, Bill refereed sporting events from grade school to the NCAA level until COVID shut down of all sports, ending his career in March 2020.&nbsp; He enjoyed the interactions with the players, especially when one would visit with him, years later, about a game Bill a had officiated.&nbsp; Before returning to Clay Center, Bill was a member of St. Huburt’s parish in Hoffman Estates, IL and Holy Family parish in Inverness, IL.&nbsp; He had recently joined the parish council at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.&nbsp; Bill was preceded in death by his father.

William “Bill” O'Donnell,

On Monday August 30, 2021, Richard “Miles” McKee, loving husband and father passed away at age 91, in Manhattan, Kansas. Miles was born on October 8, 1929 to Nell (Miles) McKee and Thomas F. McKee in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. He was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart, Marjorie (Fisk) McKee on June 22, 1952 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. They raised one daughter Annell, and three sons, Dave, Richard, and John. Miles grew up on a ranch in Chase County, Kansas. He attended Kansas State University (KSU) receiving a degree in animal science. He enlisted in the U.S Marine Corps and served in the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant. Upon completion of his service he worked as a beef herdsman on ranches in Kansas, Missouri, and Michigan. He returned to KSU as the herdsman for the pure bred beef unit. Miles received his Doctoral Degree in Animal Science from the University of Kentucky in 1968 and returned to KSU, to join the Animal Science and Industry faculty where he received numerous teaching awards and developed a reputation as a top beef cattle judge. His greatest legacy is as an academic advisor, guiding, mentoring, and caring for generations of students. Miles felt each student who walked in his office door was special and unique. Miles was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan where he sang in the choir and volunteered part-time as a host and receptionist in retirement. He enjoyed tending his apple trees, harvesting a bounty of apples that his wife Marjorie processed into apple sauce and pie fillings each year. For years Miles served as a “Burger and Brats Griller” at the Animal Science tailgate tent on Football Saturdays greeting current and formal students from across the state. Miles was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, parents Nell and Thomas, one brother, Tom, and two sisters, Margaret and Jane. He is survived by his, four children Dave (Susan), McKee of Sheridan, Wyoming; Richard McKee of Topeka, Kansas; Annell (Gary) Danczyk of Whitefish, Montana; John (Angie) McKee of San Clemente, California; and nine grandchildren. On Monday August 30, 2021, Richard “Miles” McKee, loving husband and father passed away at age 91, in Manhattan, Kansas. Miles was born on October 8, 1929 to Nell (Miles) McKee and Thomas F. McKee in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. He was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart, Marjorie (Fisk) McKee on June 22, 1952 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. They raised one daughter Annell, and three sons, Dave, Richard, and John. Miles grew up on a ranch in Chase County, Kansas. He attended Kansas State University (KSU) receiving a degree in animal science. He enlisted in the U.S Marine Corps and served in the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant. Upon completion of his service he worked as a beef herdsman on ranches in Kansas, Missouri, and Michigan. He returned to KSU as the herdsman for the pure bred beef unit. Miles received his Doctoral Degree in Animal Science from the University of Kentucky in 1968 and returned to KSU, to join the Animal Science and Industry faculty where he received numerous teaching awards and developed a reputation as a top beef cattle judge. His greatest legacy is as an academic advisor, guiding, mentoring, and caring for generations of students. Miles felt each student who walked in his office door was special and unique. Miles was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan where he sang in the choir and volunteered part-time as a host and receptionist in retirement. He enjoyed tending his apple trees, harvesting a bounty of apples that his wife Marjorie processed into apple sauce and pie fillings each year. For years Miles served as a “Burger and Brats Griller” at the Animal Science tailgate tent on Football Saturdays greeting current and formal students from across the state. Miles was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, parents Nell and Thomas, one brother, Tom, and two sisters, Margaret and Jane. He is survived by his, four children Dave (Susan), McKee of Sheridan, Wyoming; Richard McKee of Topeka, Kansas; Annell (Gary) Danczyk of Whitefish, Montana; John (Angie) McKee of San Clemente, California; and nine grandchildren. Services are pending at this time and will be announced by the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502. Marcella M. Mignano, 84, of Manhattan, passed away Monday, August 23rd at the Onaga Community Hospital in Onaga, KS. Marcella was born in Whitestone, NY on September 23rd, 1936, the youngest child of the late Edward V. and Marcella (McLaughlin) McEneaney. After high school in her hometown, she graduated from Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, NY. While at Ladycliff, she met a young West Point cadet and the love of her life, Bruce Phillip Mignano. They married on December 27th, 1958, and began the adventurous life of a young military couple. Five children followed as they moved around the globe from Kentucky to Korea, France to Kansas. During her husband’s numerous and often lengthy deployments to Korea, Vietnam, and Germany, Marcella managed her young family with a loving but firm hand. Never one to sit idly, Marcella enrolled in a Computer Programmer/Operator course at what was then the Manhattan Area Vo-Tech as her children busied themselves with the school. After successfully completing that training, she was hired as a Computer Operator at Sink &amp; Gilmore Accounting where she worked until the empty nesters moved to San Jose, CA, and subsequently West Lafayette, IN. Everywhere Marcella lived throughout the world, she always found ways to volunteer her time and talents to give back to the community – educating school children on good dental hygiene (Ft. Riley, KS), leading a Girl Scout troop (Ft. Riley, KS), working for the Red Cross (Verdun, France, and Seoul, Korea), running the food pantry for St. Julie’s Catholic Church (San Jose, CA) and Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church (West Lafayette, IN), embroidering baptismal gowns, baking Eucharist bread, and hand-crafting macramé decor at St. Thomas More Catholic Church (Manhattan, KS), and working at the Mercy Hospital gift shop (Manhattan, KS). Her family was her life. She loved to get into shenanigans with her sister, sing with her children, and spoil her grandchildren with Dairy Queen ice cream, summer London Broil barbeques, and the money given for work that was promised but never actually completed - all while never leaving Bruce’s side. Marcella is survived by her husband, Bruce of the home; Jacqueline Carpenter of Henderson, Nevada; Gary Mignano, Theresa Boatman (Rick Boatman), Thomas Mignano (Kathy Mignano), and Mary Mignano, all of Manhattan. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren: Michelle Mignano, Erica Boatman, Anthony Mignano, Bridgitte Cheatham, Anna Mignano, Maggie Reed, Caroline Carpenter, Sara Boatman, Emily Boatman, Natalie Mignano, Ann Marie Schmidt, Nathan Mignano, Veronica Carpenter, Nicholas Mignano, Dominic Mignano-Sentongo, and Rachel Carpenter; and five great-grandchildren: Liam Reed, Layla Cheatham, Theodore Schmidt, Aiden Reed, with another Cheatham on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents and five siblings: Edward McEneaney, Charles McEneaney, Thomas McEneaney, Catherine Begley, and George McEneaney. A parish vigil will be said on Monday, August 30th at 7:00 pm at Carlson’s Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Fr. Douglas Eugene Wallace, (Doug), 67, was born July 22, 1954, in Garden City to Earl William Wallace and Velma E. (Schlegel) Wallace. He died peacefully, August 22, 2021, at the Good Shephard Hospice House, Manhattan, KS. He was surrounded by his family who were telling stories, crying, and laughing at his many adventures. Doug had a knack for BS and making people laugh, but was a hard worker and only worked three main jobs in his life, all in Kansas - Schreiber Motors in Garden City; Fertilizer Manager for Syracuse Co-op for 30 years, and yard manager/dispatcher for Mead Lumber, Manhattan for 10 years. He also helped deliver The Manhattan Mercury for over nine years, starting when his son, Jesse first got a route. Doug used this time to teach Jesse to drive, and sometimes their dog, Noodle, tagged along. Doug was also a sports fan. He coached youth baseball, softball, football, women's softball, and played baseball or co-ed softball well into his 50's. He met his future wife, Becky, while playing softball and they enjoyed many years playing on co-ed teams and going to a few Royals games. They married on January 22, 1988, in Syracuse, KS. Other sports included golf where he was a board member of the Tamarisk Golf Course, Syracuse; football (Go Chiefs and KSU); watching college basketball (never missed a KU game); supporting family members swim/dive competitively; bowling; playing cards; and fishing. He looked forward to going with the Jerry Schmidt family on their annual fishing trips, and especially this last year when his health was failing. A highlight was helping his grandson, Ryder, catch his first fish at the recent Wallace reunion. During his years in Syracuse, Doug could be found building or fixing things in his garage, down at the Co-op, or golf course, or helping to remodel and landscape his and Becky’s century-old home. After retirement, and bouts with cancer, Doug could be found watching The Andy Griffith Show or Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, or in the kitchen cooking burritos, jerky, cookies, brownies, and even pie, or smoking and grilling outside. He grew his own peppers and made the hottest salsa! Many were recipients of his culinary products. He was a fan of garage sale and loved making deals. Daughter, Jordan has followed in his footsteps. Doug is survived by his wife Rebecca (Becky), Manhattan, KS; daughter Elizabeth (Chelsey) Rangel, son-in-law Javier and grandchildren Breña and Ryder, Aurora, CO; daughter Dana Watts and husband Jonathan Morgenstein, Arlington, VA; daughter Kari Watts and granddaughter Taylor Lembright, Manhattan; daughter and son Jesse, both of Manhattan, KS. He also leaves behind a brother Richard (Vicki), Camdenton, MO; a favorite sister Earlene (Brian) Specht, Morrow, OH; brother Dennis (Vicki) Battlefield, MO; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and is probably playing cards with them now, enjoying Tootsie Rolls, Jolly Ranchers, diet Pepsi and maybe&nbsp; beer while listening to the Eagles. Connie Fulkerson, 66, of Manhattan, died August 20, 2021, at Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice in Manhattan, Kan. Constance Eileen Nelson was born Sept. 12, 1954, in San Diego, Calif., to Paul R. and Barbara J. (Haskin) Nelson, while her father was in the Navy. Because of her father's work with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., she and her family lived in numerous towns: Topeka, Wichita, Pratt, Abilene, Salina, Hutchinson, Kansas City, Kan., and Webster Groves, Mo. Connie was an active member of the Girl Scouts for 10 years. She graduated from Buhler (Kan.) High School in 1972, earned an A.A. degree from Hutchinson Community College in 1974 and a B.A. in English and journalism from Fort Hays State University in 1977. She was a yearbook editor and photographer at all three schools. After graduation, she worked for about two years as co-editor of the weekly Bucklin Banner and Protection Post newspapers in western Kansas. She then moved to Hastings, Neb., where she worked for the Cornhusker Press, a professional printing company. In 1982, she started working as a production coordinator for Student Publications, Inc. (now the Collegian Media Group) at Kansas State University. On Aug. 2, 1986, she married the love of her life John Walter Fulkerson at the First Christian Church in Manhattan, Kan. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2001. They had one son, Alex, born June 7, 1989. When the Journalism Education Association moved its national headquarters to K-State in 1988, she was asked to be its administrative assistant and bookstore manager. During her years with the organization, she also helped plan the biannual national conventions and was a copy editor for the organization's Communication: Journalism Education Today magazine. She retired after 32 years at JEA in 2020 and was the recipient of the organization's highest honor, the Carl Towley Award, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to scholastic journalism and exemplary work to improve journalism education. Genealogy was her favorite hobby for more than 40 years, and she enjoyed sharing her research with family members and connecting with distant relatives through genealogy websites. Survivors include son Alex (Courtney) Fulkerson and their two children, Centerville, Ga.; brothers: Daniel (Sandra) Nelson, Columbia, Mo.; John (Sonia) Nelson, Costa Rica; and Andrew (Jennifer Lindsey) Nelson, Eugene, Ore.; sister: Jeanne Kennedy, Tecumseh, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Due to the ongoing pandemic, there will be no memorial service. Burial will be at Valley View Memorial Gardens, Manhattan. Calvin Wayne “Cal” Myron, 79, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Good Shepherd Hospice House.&nbsp;

Cal was born October 3, 1941, in Torrance, California, the son of Thor C. and Hilda (Andrade) Myron.&nbsp; He attended grade school in California and graduated from Narbonne High School in Harbor City, California.

In 1963, Cal married Rosann Bonanno in Torrance, California.&nbsp; They had four daughters, and later divorced.&nbsp; Cal then married Mary Jo Mullen; they also divorced.

For most of Cal’s adult life, he was a construction contractor, building both commercial and residential buildings. For many years, he owned his own construction business in Signal Hill, California. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing golf and bowling.&nbsp; He was an avid football fan, with his long-standing team of choice being the Oakland Raiders, now the Las Vegas Raiders.&nbsp; Cal was an avid reader and especially enjoyed action mysteries by Clive Cluster.&nbsp; Upon starting retirement in Kingman, Arizona, he ultimately relocated to Manhattan where he became a member of the DAV Auxiliary, Unit 28.&nbsp;

Cal is survived by his three daughters: Kari Myron, Trabuco Canyon, California, and her daughter, Riley Sage Beeler; Karin Hansen, St. George, and her children: Kevin, Tayler Skye, and David; and Kristin Myron Gray (Steve), Manhattan, and her daughter, Jilliann Isabella; Cal’s siblings: Roger Myron (Ninfa), Memphis, Tennessee; Mag Ross, Mission Viejo, California; and Donna Johnson, Rancho Santa Margarita, California.&nbsp; Cal was preceded in death by his daughter, Krista Ann, his parents, his ex-wife, Mary Jo, his sister, Frances Christensen, and his son-in-law, Jeffrey Beeler.

In his younger years, he enjoyed playing golf and bowling.&nbsp; He was an avid football fan, with his long-standing team of choice being the Oakland Raiders, now the Las Vegas Raiders.&nbsp; Cal was an avid reader and especially enjoyed action mysteries by Clive Cluster.&nbsp; Upon starting retirement in Kingman, Arizona, he ultimately relocated to Manhattan where he became a member of the DAV Auxiliary, Unit 28.&nbsp;Cal is survived by his three daughters: Kari Myron, Trabuco Canyon, California, and her daughter, Riley Sage Beeler; Karin Hansen, St. George, and her children: Kevin, Tayler Skye, and David; and Kristin Myron Gray (Steve), Manhattan, and her daughter, Jilliann Isabella; Cal’s siblings: Roger Myron (Ninfa), Memphis, Tennessee; Mag Ross, Mission Viejo, California; and Donna Johnson, Rancho Santa Margarita, California.&nbsp; Cal was preceded in death by his daughter, Krista Ann, his parents, his ex-wife, Mary Jo, his sister, Frances Christensen, and his son-in-law, Jeffrey Beeler.A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on September 11, 2021, from 2-4pm at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.&nbsp; Inurnment will be held in October at Green Hills Cemetery, Palos Verdes, California.&nbsp; The family suggests memorial contributions to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, http://connect.chla.org/goto/CalMyronFamily, or sent in care of the funeral home.
