Cenith Delane Cowing, 88, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023, at her family home in Clay Center, KS after a long battle with Parkinson’s dementia. Cenith was born on February 27, 1935, on the family farm near Lucas, KS, the last child of 10 children born to Everett and Myra Wood. She attended Downs High School. She met and married John Leonard (Bunky) Cowing. They made their home together in Clay Center for 71 years.

Cenith was a seamstress and homemaker while raising her family, later working at Presbyterian Manor as a cook before joining her husband and son in running Cowing’s Antiques in downtown Clay Center for many, many years. Cenith was also very involved in her church and women’s groups, teaching Sunday School and VBS for decades at Clay Center Christian Church.

Cenith was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She loved babysitting and doing things with her “grands”: Kathy’s Jeremy and Carrie, Robin’s Sarah and Jonathan, and Gina’s Nathan, Gabrielle and Micah. Her “greats” were also a tremendous joy and delight for her when they came along: Jeremy and Karla’s Emilee and Aiden, Carrie’s Gavin and Jt, Nathan and Nicole’s Emmett and Conrad. Nothing seemed to please her more than a baby to hold or a little one to entertain, even in her final months.&nbsp;

Throughout her life Cenith also especially enjoyed homemaking, sewing, reading, daily crosswords, Sunday drives, card parties, vacationing with family, making every holiday special, family reunions, anything to do with angels (especially guardian angel pictures with children), teaching children about Jesus, and any and every opportunity to spend time with family and friends.&nbsp;

Cenith was preceded in death by her parents, her son Sam, her half-siblings Pat, Mike, Evelyn and Pauline, brothers Doyle, Norris, Olin, Orin, Arven, and a sister, Carol Rogers.

Survivors include her husband John, brothers Loy Wood of KC, MO and Arden Wood of Weymouth, MA, sister Sally Cooper of Osborne, KS, daughters Kathy (Roy) Sweet of Clay Center, Robin Butterworth of Glenpool, OK, and Gina (Don) Burman of Lawrence, KS. She will also be dearly missed by grandchildren Jeremy and Karla Sweet of Clay Center, Carrie Alton of Clay Center, Sarah Butterworth of Glenpool, OK, Jonathan Stidman, Tulsa, OK, Nathan and Nicole Burman, KC, MO, Gabrielle Burman, Dallas, TX and Micah Burman, NYC, NY, her great-grandchildren Emilee, Aiden, Gavin, Jt, Emmett and Conrad, as well as countless other relatives and friends.&nbsp;

A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Clay Center Christian Church, 1021 Crawford St. This service will be immediately followed by a short graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, KS.

Frank Purling, Jr., 75 of Morganville, Kansas, died November 22, 2023 at the Midland Care Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. &nbsp;He was born on August 7, 1948 in Clay Center, Kansas, the son of Frank Purling, Sr. and Darlene Mae Langley &nbsp;&nbsp;

Frank was raised in Clay Center and graduated with the Class of 1966 from CCCHS. &nbsp;He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam war. &nbsp;Frank returned to Clay Center and later moved to Manhattan, Kansas and worked in construction for many years. &nbsp;In the 1990’s, he moved to Colorado and started ranching. &nbsp;Frank returned to the Clay Center area and continued ranching. &nbsp;He was a member of Cowboys for Christ and a past member of the American Legion. As a veteran himself, Frank loved the United States and believed wholeheartedly in the promise of freedom. Led by his Christian faith in all aspects of life, Frank was honorable, generous, and kind. &nbsp;Frank loved country music; a good laugh; authentic company; fresh, open air; the sunrise, sunset and a good honest day's work in between. Frank loved animals, seeing them as a blessing and as companions. Frank's ability to understand and communicate with animals was a gift and, in this gift, he found his calling. Frank loved life and had the courage to live his life to its fullest. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Barb Wilson.

He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer and husband Michael Baker of Prairie Village, Kansas and Jill Burgess of Lenexa, Kansas; sister, Linda and husband Sam Gibbs of Clay Center, Kansas; brother, Tom Purling of Clay Center, Kansas; 4 Grandchildren and 1 Great-grandson.

&nbsp;Rodney E. "Chip" Wolf, 70, of Junction City, Kansas died Monday, November 27, 2023 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

Rodney was born December 22, 1952, in Salina, Kansas the son of Earl R. and Mary (Weaver) Wolf. In 1953, he moved to White City, Kansas with his family. He attended school in White City. After his freshman year of school, he transferred to Chapman and graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1970. He attended Flint Hills Technical College, Cloud County Community College and Kansas State University.

Rodney farmed many years in southern Geary County. While farming, he also worked as the city marshal in White City, Kansas. He later worked as an appraiser for Geary County. In 1988, he went to work for Foot Locker working his way into management. He retired in 2007. He worked as a reserve deputy for Geary County Sheriffs Department.

He married Connie Close August 20, 1987 in Junction City, Kansas. Survivors include his wife Connie of Junction City, Kansas; one son, Tony Wolf and his wife Sharon of Milford, Kansas; two daughters, Brandi Wolf of Milford, Kansas and Julie Bender and her husband Len of Chapman, Kansas; four grandsons, Cameron, Chance, Konner, and Tyler; one granddaughter, Courtney; two great-grandchildren, Josie and Kasen. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents.

Keith Blasing, AKA “Bubble Guppy”, age 59, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully in is sleep on November 18, 2023 in Manhattan.

Keith had many passions. He loved to fish and create many things. He was very talented at everything he did and he loved music.

Keith has two children, Matthew Volle of Topeka, Kansas and Cody Focht of St. Joseph, Missouri; also, his four grandchildren: Lilyanna, Zaci, Remington, and Brantley.

He was preceded in death by his parents Max and Norma Blasing, and his sister Letah Gerdes.

In addition to his children and grandchildren, he is also survived by his siblings: Kevin Blasing (Darlene) of Atchison, Kansas, Carolyn Hall (Bill) of Gower, Missouri, Kurtis Blasing of Manhattan, Kansas, Kim Blasing of Manhattan, Kansas, and Karen Bartlett (Steve) of Camden Point, Missouri.

Frederick L. “Lee” O’Neill, of Manhattan, died Friday November 17, 2023 at the Collins House at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan. He was 98 years old.

He was born May 5, 1925 at home on the farm near Alma, Kansas, the son of Robert and Sarah (Crider) O’Neill, along with his two brothers and three sisters.

Lee attended area rural schools, graduating from Leonardville High School in 1943. He contracted polio immediately thereafter. It kept him from service in WWII and delayed his enrollment in college. After one year at Kansas State, he attended Pittsburg State, graduating in 1950 with a degree in business.

He worked for Western Auto until he was invited to serve in the Korean War. He was stationed at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, Colorado for two years, where he met and married Emma Loreta Martendale of Boise, Idaho. Their family eventually grew to include a son and two daughters.

After his military service, Lee worked for Standard Oil and General Foods, until enrolling at the University of Idaho to earn a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. He then worked in registrar, admissions, and research positions at the University of Idaho.

A plan for a one-year family travel by trailer was cut short when they settled in a remote area of British Columbia, Canada. Lee operated as a guide-outfitter for hunting and fishing, and he also had summer youth camps.

With his children getting older and marriage ending, the Canadian property and business were sold and Lee returned to Kansas. He was then married to Carol Faulconer Harris in 1985. He went to work as Assistant to the Graduate Dean at Kansas State University until his retirement in 1991.

Lee took pride in extensive floral and gardening, and caring for the birds, squirrels and calico cats. He enjoyed watching the KSU Wildcat Women’s Basketball Team. Lee loved to travel, especially between his Kansas and Canadian families’ and a tour of Ireland and Scotland in 1985. He was proud of his Irish heritage, which manifested in his love of singing, conversation, and storytelling - stories that often grew in the re-telling. He was an accomplished dancer. He and Carol met at a dance and dancing filled many hours of their life together.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Mary Howard (Orville), Ella May Howard (Frank), and Violet Haffener; his brothers, Robert O’Neill (Kathleen), and Frank O’Neill (Coe); and his first wife Lorri O’Neill.

In British Columbia, Canada, Lee is survived by his son Michael O’Neill (Jill), daughter Linda O’Neill, daughter Nancy O’Neill (Max Sherwood); three grandchildren: Jesse (Michaela), David, and Danielle O’Neill; three great-grandchildren: Alexis, Violet, and Archer O’Neill.

He also leaves his wife Carol; and Carol’s children, daughter Laura Harris (Linda Curd), of Lexington, Kentucky, daughter Charlotte Harris, of Phoenix, Arizona, and son Steve Harris, of Kansas City, Missouri; and granddaughter, Jaedyn Harris, of Richmond, Missouri.

Lee’s “farewell party” will be held on Monday November 27, 2023. His wishes were to be cremated. Inurnment will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan, on the O’Neill gravesite. Celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the College Avenue United Methodist Church, 1609 College Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas, with Rev. John Collins officiating. A reception will follow the services at the church in the fellowship hall.

Lee was blessed to be in excellent and loving care at the Collins House at Meadowlark Hills through the last difficult years of his illness. Frederick L. "Lee" O'Neill

Dorothy Jean Zabel, 91, of rural Westmoreland, Kansas, died Sunday, November 26, 2023, at the Onaga Community Hospital. &nbsp;She was a life-long resident of the community.

Dorothy was born on January 17, 1932, in rural Onaga, the daughter of Walter F. and Hazel (Nightingale) Rollenhagen. &nbsp;She attended local grade school and graduated in 1950 from Westmoreland High School.

Dorothy married Eldon Carl Zabel in Wamego, Kansas, on January 20, 1951. &nbsp;He preceded her in death on September 6, 2016.

Dorothy was a dairy farmer. &nbsp;She and Eldon, side by side, owned and operated their family dairy operation northeast of Westmoreland. &nbsp;She also worked in the Pottawatomie County Clerk’s Office for over 15 years.

Dorothy loved her farm life, especially all the animals. &nbsp;She loved her cats and dogs, particularly collie dogs, and called each of her cows by name. &nbsp;She enjoyed growing a large garden and watching sports. &nbsp;She was a fan of Kansas State football and the Kansas City Chiefs, she also enjoyed the Kansas City Royals baseball games. &nbsp;Dorothy was a member of the Dairy Farmers of America (formerly Mid-American Dairymen) and St. Luke Lutheran Church.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Doug Zabel, Onaga, Allan Zabel and Mina Grutzmacher (Lance), both of Westmoreland; her grandchildren, Nicole Duggan (Ron), Lisa DeWeese (Ryan), Mitchel Grutzmacher (Heather), Gina Roberts (Ian), Marshal Zabel (Kelsey), Jarod Zabel (Sheila), and Audra Pendleton (Kenny), her sister Mary Mayer, Westmoreland; and nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. &nbsp;Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson, Tyler Zabel, her great-granddaughters, Mariah Walter, and Emma Grutzmacher, and her brothers, Donald Rollenhagen and Clinton Rollenhagen.

Earl Howard (Perky) Perkins Jr. passed away September 2, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Earl was born in Junction City on April 2, 1951 to Earl Sr. and Betty (Pitts) Perkins.

Earl was a man for all seasons and a passionate traveler. He grew up a military brat and his love for traveling grew with his service in the US Navy. 

A great athlete in his own right and an even better friend to all he celebrated life with. Earl graduated from Junction City High School in 1969 where he starred in football, basketball, and tennis and led JCHS to the 1969 state championship in football. Following his graduation, he played football at Independence Junior college and then joined the US Navy. 

Following his service in the Navy he settled in California where he played and coached tennis from 1976- 1990. His love for traveling led him to many stops along his journey where he finally settled in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Earl was known for his athleticism but also for his strong relationship with his teammates such as Denival and Jimmy Grant, Fred Starks and Les Chaves. He was known for his strong will and tenacious love for his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James O. Beasley and sister Kem L. Perkins. He is survived by his brothers: Moses White, Eugene Perkins, Larry (Diane) D. Perkins, Sr., and Richard (Nancy) Perkins and sister Beatrice K. Perkins; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Celebration of life service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the William L. Talbott VFW Post #8773 on 1215 S. Washington, Junction City Kansas and will be followed by a reception in his memory.

Cassandra (Cassie) Lee Beninga, age 47, of Topeka, Kansas passed away unexpectedly due to a medical condition on Monday, November 20, 2023, at her home in Topeka.

Cassie was born on August 2,&nbsp;1976, in Manhattan, Kansas, the beloved daughter of Steven Thomas and Sandra Sue (Schwab) Beninga.&nbsp;

Upon graduation from Shawnee Heights High School in Topeka, she enrolled in Emporia State University. &nbsp;After a year she decided that college was not for her. She had completed the required training to become a&nbsp;Certified Nurse Aid and was employed by a nursing home while in high school and&nbsp;decided the health care field was better suited and more interesting to her. &nbsp;She enrolled at Kaw Valley Vo-Tech (Washburn Institute of Technology) and received &nbsp;her Associates Degree as a Surgical Technologist and completed the requirements to become Nationally Registered. Cassie started her career at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka in the operating room as a Surgical Technologist and worked there for six years. She then had the opportunity to move to the new Tallgrass Surgery Center and remained employed there since its first day opening in 2002. During the time Cassie was employed there she continued to receive training and accolades as a Surgical Technologist and completed the training to be a &nbsp;Sterilization Specialist, meeting the requirements to be nationally registered as a Certified Central Service Technician (CCST). &nbsp;She was always trying to be better at her job and pursued&nbsp;continuing education, obtaining multiple other certifications.&nbsp;

When not working, she enjoyed family, her close group of friends, K-State football and basketball, and of course her cats, which she called her fur babies and were all rescues. She also shared the love for two dogs with her parents.&nbsp;

One of Cassie’s passions in life was to make sure every abandoned cat and dog had a place to live and was taken care of. &nbsp;She&nbsp;volunteered at Helping Hands Humane Society finding supplies for them and fostering kittens. There was only one failed foster kitten when she decided to adopt the kitten. She also volunteered on various community activities which included volunteering at Topeka Performing Art Center.&nbsp;

Cassie is survived by her parents, Steve and Sandra (Susie) of Topeka, Kansas; two brothers, Christopher Beninga and wife Melanie of Austin, Texas and Jason Beninga of Topeka; one niece McKenna Beninga of Austin, Texas; three nephews, Mason Beninga of Austin Texas, Braiden Beninga of Topeka and Brenner Beninga of Topeka. &nbsp;She loved her niece and nephews with all her heart and had special nicknames for each.&nbsp; She is also survived by her aunt, Peggy Grater and husband Ron of Leonardville,&nbsp;along with many cousins in Kansas and Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and two uncles.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE Michigan Avenue, Topeka, Kansas.&nbsp; Cremation will follow the funeral and a private family inurnment will be in the Riley Cemetery at a later date.

Cassie was always more comfortable in casual clothes wearing shorts or fashionable sweatpants and a sweatshirt or medical scrubs. She would want others to be comfortable as well and would not be offended by dressing casually or having something purple or Kansas State related worn. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Martha Louise McDonald, age 83 of Leonardville, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

She was born on September 29, 1940, the daughter of Willis Henry and Laura Iva (Styer) Beals.

On August 7, 1957, at Storm Lake, Iowa, she married Clyde Eldon McDonald.&nbsp; He preceded her in death in 2018.

She and Clyde owned and operated McDonald Auto Sales and Salvage for 60 years.&nbsp; During her younger years, she was a waitress at different restaurants in Leonardville, Riley and Randolph.&nbsp; Martha was an avid bingo player and loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by two sons, Elton McDonald and wife Vicki of Wakefield, and Tony McDonald and wife Debbie of Riley; two daughters, Jeanne Richter and husband Mark of Leonardville, and Marlene McDonald of Leonardville; one daughter-in-law, Tracy McDonald of Randolph; five grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bryce McDonald; two brothers, James Beals and Ray Beals, and one great granddaughter, Madie Mall.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Dwight Diller officiating.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Grandview-Mill Creek Cemetery.

Bobby Gene Pfizenmaier, age 92 of Green, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center.

He was born on September 15, 1931, on a farm outside of Green, the son of Harry Ernest and Wilma Mae (Clark) Pfizenmaier.

He married JoAnne Joyce Appleton on September 12, 1954, in Green.&nbsp; She survives of the home.

Bobby was a lifetime farmer and rancher who enjoyed harvesting and raising cattle. He was a member of the Green Christian Church and Elks Lodge.&nbsp; He loved his family and watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in all their activities.&nbsp; He also liked deer and pheasant hunting with his family and the Kansas City Royals.

In addition to his wife, JoAnne Pfizenmaier, he is survived by three children; Sonya Conrad and husband Kim of Manhattan, Greg Pfizenmaier and wife Vicki of Green and Shelly Kolterman and husband Jay of Clay Center; one brother, Noel Pfizenmaier and wife Joy Deane of Randolph; eleven grandchildren, Brandon Pfizenmaier (Jill), Sheldon Pfizenmaier (Evy), Shantel Marrs (Josh), Cory Willmann (Becky), Tony Kolterman (Kadi), Jordan Kolterman (Cassity), Jayde Kolterman (Amanda), Ty Kolterman, Jami Hocker (Luke), Staci Stratman (Josh) and Melissa McClarty (Justin), and 24 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Jodi Pfizenmaier.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Green Cemetery, south of Green, with Pastor Sarah Gill officiating.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Gary Virgil Chaput, age 73, died November 20, 2023, at the Saint Lukes Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on October 12, 1950, to Virgil and Lela (Schumock) Chaput, in Clay Center, KS. 

Gary grew up in the Clifton area and graduated from Clifton High School in 1969. In enlisted into the United States Army in 1970. He served as an active-duty soldier from 1970-1976. Immediately following, he joined the Kansas National Guard and served from 1976-1989. Gary married Brenda Deaver in 1974. To this union three children were born. Gary worked for Hutchinson Maywrath, LCL Buffalo Ranch, and retired from Heatron in Leavenworth, KS. 

Even though Gary was referred to as a stubborn ol’ fart, he loved to talk, tell jokes and was quite the prankster. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and tinkering in his shop. &nbsp;Gary could be found each morning with a coffee and newspaper in his hand. &nbsp;He is preceded in death by parents and sister, Judy Duggan.

Robert Edward Patterson Born December 18, 1951, in Giessen Germany. Robert whose birth name was Henry Bernd Zerwas, was loved from the start, and was adopted to expand the family of his beloved mother Edna Patterson and the man for whom he was named, her husband, Robert B. Patterson. Robert grew up a child of the military but spent most of his childhood in the Junction City, Kansas area. Known for his charisma and athletic ability, both were on full display at Junction City High school where he graduated.

After graduation Robert took his strengths to the collegiate arena where he attended Wichita State University prior to joining the Army. He took all he learned through these experiences and shifted them into a career in Finance working for the State of Kansas where he left a lasting impact.

Robert’s family was always his passion. His love for his sister Jackie and brother Darryl, along with his enduring commitment to his mother Edna all who proceeded him in death was evidence of his immense devotion. He adored his younger sisters Christal and Abia, they gave him an opportunity to be the protector and advocate he wanted to be for all he called family. A proud father and uncle, Robert was always eager to share a story with and about his “kids” with anyone he encountered.

In addition to his love for family Robert loved sports, the Raiders especially. He also loved to cheer on his family in any of their athletic endeavors from soccer to basketball to football. To know Robert was to love him, his stories and jokes, his joy was contagious. He constantly kept everyone around him entertained.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother Edna Patterson, father Robert B. Patterson, brother and best friend, Daryl Jackson and cherished sister Jackie Patterson. He is survived by two loving sisters, Christal Padilla, and Abia McFarland (Bobby).Robert leaves to mourn his passing his five children, Rahsaan Shears (Jamal), Robert-John Patterson, Edward Patterson (Sam), Kathleen Wilson, and Taylor Wilson (Devonta), along with seven grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A celebration of life will be hosted Saturday December 16, 2023 from 2-6 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of The Eagles Aerie 830,&nbsp; 230 E. 10th St. Junction City Kansas. Marion Waldraudt Hayden peacefully passed away in her husband’s arms on November 10, 2023, at the age of 62 at her residence in Junction City, Kansas. She was born on August 24, 1961, in Furth, Germany.Marion will be dearly missed by her husband, Dave Hayden; her daughters, Amanda Vilander (Airrion) and Denise Howard (Jacob); her son, Naythan Hall; her stepdaughter Tabbitha Hayden (Larry); grandchildren, Caden Reece, Larry and Lorenzo Jones and her best friend and sister Dorine Royse (Frank).

Marion was a loving and kindhearted person always radiating warmth and compassion to those around her. Her outgoing nature touched the lives of many, and her memory will forever be treasured by those who had the privilege of knowing her.&nbsp;&nbsp;Marion enjoyed her time working at Stacy’s restaurant and Cracker Barrel.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in honor of Marion at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories, memories and pay tribute to Marion’s life. 

Marion was proceeded in death by her mother Anneliese Lincoln and cherished Oma Gertrude Lange, who influenced her early years. Carla Jaylene Allen, 73, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on November 19, 2023, at Valley View Senior Life Center.&nbsp; A family led service will take place at a later date.

Carla was born on April 1, 1950, to Jay and Dolores (Staufenberg) Allen in Junction City, Kansas. Shortly after leaving high school, she found herself on post working in a Fort Riley cafeteria. Working there, she was introduced to a young soldier who later became her future husband. He made sure to visit her for lunch every single day to make a good impression. They decided to raise their family here in Junction City, Kansas and to grow old together.

She is survived by her son, Dale Allen; two grandchildren, Cory and Cody; one brother, John J. Thompson and one sister, Dee Thompson.&nbsp;&nbsp;

SFC (RET) Jaime A. Garcia, 70, of Milford, Kansas, passed away on November 15, 2023, at Stormont-Vail Healthcare. A family led celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Jaime was born on June 4, 1953, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His stories growing up there were always adventurous. At seventeen years old, Jaime decided to enlist into the United States Army, bringing him to Fort Riley, Kansas. This was the start of his new life. Soon after being stationed on Fort Riley, he met the love of his life, Ellen, at the bowling alley on Fort Riley. Soon after they married on July 5,1975. They shared 48 years of marriage together raising their three daughters. During his military career, he and his family were stationed in Germany three times and were stationed three times in the United States. He served his country honorably for 21 years, earning many awards, decorations, medals, and badges.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen; three daughters, Kristina (Gabe) Gillick, Monika (Derrick) Tomes, and Jessika (Aron) Haselbauer; four grandchildren, Brooklyn (Geo) Lee, Jayla Haselbauer, Ethan Boggs, and Tristin Haselbauer and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Chase.Jaime A. Garcia was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a self-titled "expert" fisherman.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kendall Damaricus Talley, 25, of Junction City, Kansas died Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Stormont Vail - Flint Hills Campus Hospital in Junction City, Kansas. Kendall was born February 26, 1998. Kendall was a stranger to no one, and a friend to all. He grew up being a part of theater, band, 4H, and baseball. He loved to go boating on the lake, creating art of any kind, using tools, and just being with his friends and family. Kendall graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 2016. He attended Wichita Area Technical College, and was currently working for Max Motors of Manhattan. Kendall’s charismatic personality, loving heart, and infectious smile was uplifting to anyone around him. He loved his role as father, and adored his baby Kahlani. He was a remarkable person as a son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and as a friend.

Survivors include daughter Kahlani Talley, of Wichita, Kansas, and her mother Jillian Bennington; mother and father, Brian Jackson and Christina Talley-Jackson of Junction City, Kansas; two sisters, Brianna Talley and Krysta Talley both of Junction City, Kansas; grandparents, Samuel and Cynthia McCray of Lancaster, Texas and James and Linda Talley of Milford, Kansas.

Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home.

Shirley Rose Schurle, age 88 of Manhattan, passed away Friday, November 10, 2023, at Via Christi Village in Manhattan.

She was born on October 12, 1935, in Manhattan, the daughter of Darrell and Rose (Riniker) Russell.

She married George Lyman Schurle on February 24, 1954.

She worked along with her husband as owner and operators of Schurle’s Water Conditioning.&nbsp; She was a member of the Sedalia Community Church and enjoyed being outdoors working in her flower garden.&nbsp; Shirley loved attending her grandchildren’s activities and K-State sporting events.

She is survived by her husband, Lyman Schurle of Manhattan; four sons, DeWayne Schurle and wife Julie of Manhattan, David Schurle of Riley, Darrell Schurle and wife Lisa of Manhattan, and Jamie Schurle of Colorado; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jim Russell; two sisters, Sally Warren and Francis Fugate, and one grandson, Christopher Schurle.

A Celebration of Life will be from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on November 27, 2023, at the Sedalia Community Church Annex.&nbsp; Casual attire is recommended with K-State attire encouraged.

Shirley Rose Schurle

Gail Habluetzel, 77, passed away peacefully November 16, 2023, at Linn Community Nursing Home from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease. 

Gail was born July 15, 1946, in Clay Center, the third son of Lawrence and Maxine (Strom) Habluetzel. He graduated from CCCHS in 1964 and earned a Journalism degree at the University of Kansas in 1968. Gail met and married the love of his life, Marsha Decker, while in college. He and Marsha lived in California and Texas, but eventually made their way back to Clay Center, where they have lived for 43 years. Gail served with Campus Crusade for Christ for many years, first as an editor of a Christian athletic magazine, then with a touring singing group. This led to quite a bit of travel around mainland U.S., as well as Hawaii, Canada and Europe. Gail’s faith in Jesus Christ was always the most important thing in his life.

When Gail and Marsha moved back to Clay Center, Gail was hired as a staff member for Big Lakes Developmental Center and worked there for 25 years in various roles. He retired in 2006 as BLDC’s Clay Center Services Director. Gail was heavily involved in the Evangelical Covenant Church, serving in multiple roles throughout his years of membership. Gail was known for his love of music and his beautiful singing voice, and was happy to sing for special programs, weddings, and funerals in the community. He also enjoyed being “Uncle Sam” for nine years during Clay Center’s Fourth of July parades, which usually involved singing in costume in a special program on the Courthouse Square.&nbsp; &nbsp;4-H was another place where Gail served in the roles of club leader, camp counselor, food stand manager, and fair board member during the years his children were involved. He also served on the boards of the United Way and the Clay Center Chamber of Commerce.&nbsp;

Gail was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Maxine, and older brother, Loy Habluetzel.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Marsha, of 55 years, and one brother, Larry (Carol) Habluetzel of Overland Park, Kansas. &nbsp;Children: Amy (John) Battenfield of Clay Center, Kansas; Carrie (Matthew) Macy of Wichita, Kansas; Adam (Angel) Habluetzel of Grand Junction, Colorado; Mark (Lisa) Habluetzel of Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Gail was also blessed with and survived by eight grandsons, three granddaughters, one great-grandson, three nephews, and one niece.

Private Family Burial will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas.

Celebration of Life Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, at the Clay Center Evangelical Covenant Church, 1330 15th Street, Clay Center, Kansas.

 </figure>Gail Habluetzel, 77, passed away peacefully November 16, 2023, at Linn Community Nursing Home from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease. Gail was born July 15, 1946, in Clay Center, the third son of Lawrence and Maxine (Strom) Habluetzel. He graduated from CCCHS in 1964 and earned a Journalism degree at the University of Kansas in 1968. Gail met and married the love of his life, Marsha Decker, while in college. He and Marsha lived in California and Texas, but eventually made their way back to Clay Center, where they have lived for 43 years. Gail served with Campus Crusade for Christ for many years, first as an editor of a Christian athletic magazine, then with a touring singing group. This led to quite a bit of travel around mainland U.S., as well as Hawaii, Canada and Europe. Gail’s faith in Jesus Christ was always the most important thing in his life.When Gail and Marsha moved back to Clay Center, Gail was hired as a staff member for Big Lakes Developmental Center and worked there for 25 years in various roles. He retired in 2006 as BLDC’s Clay Center Services Director. Gail was heavily involved in the Evangelical Covenant Church, serving in multiple roles throughout his years of membership. Gail was known for his love of music and his beautiful singing voice, and was happy to sing for special programs, weddings, and funerals in the community. He also enjoyed being “Uncle Sam” for nine years during Clay Center’s Fourth of July parades, which usually involved singing in costume in a special program on the Courthouse Square.&nbsp; &nbsp;4-H was another place where Gail served in the roles of club leader, camp counselor, food stand manager, and fair board member during the years his children were involved. He also served on the boards of the United Way and the Clay Center Chamber of Commerce.&nbsp;Gail was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Maxine, and older brother, Loy Habluetzel.He leaves behind his beloved wife, Marsha, of 55 years, and one brother, Larry (Carol) Habluetzel of Overland Park, Kansas. &nbsp;Children: Amy (John) Battenfield of Clay Center, Kansas; Carrie (Matthew) Macy of Wichita, Kansas; Adam (Angel) Habluetzel of Grand Junction, Colorado; Mark (Lisa) Habluetzel of Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Gail was also blessed with and survived by eight grandsons, three granddaughters, one great-grandson, three nephews, and one niece.Private Family Burial will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas.Celebration of Life Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, at the Clay Center Evangelical Covenant Church, 1330 15th Street, Clay Center, Kansas.Memorial donations can be made to the Evangelical Covenant Church or Big Lakes Developmental Center in care of the funeral home.

Gail Habluetzel

Glenda “Jill” Irene Cooper Spohn, passed away on November 15, 2023, at the age of 78 in Abilene, Kansas. She was born on June 22, 1945, in Wichita, Kansas, daughter of Glenn and Dorcas Evans Cooper. The oldest of four, Jill, was active in Campfire Girls and St. James Episcopal Church in Wichita, Kansas. She graduated from Southeast High in 1963 and continued her education at Emporia State University. While attending ESU, Jill met Jerold Spohn, and the two married December 20, 1965. They had a strong marriage of 57 years and were a positive example of upholding marriage vows. One of their favorite things to do was to pick out anniversary cards for one another each year. After a few years of marriage, the couple settled in White City, Kansas, where they grew their family and raised 6 children - 3 boys and 3 girls. They moved to the house on Garfield Street in 1982 and lived there for the next 36 years. Jill worked as the secretary of White City Schools for a number of years before staying home to raise her hildren. In 1992 Jill graduated from Emporia State University, with her degree in Secondary Education in History. It was important to her to finish what she had started and demonstrated perseverance and sacrifices she completed her degree. Her last place of employment before retirement was with Central National ank in Junction City.

Jill’s children were her pride and joy and she could always be counted on to be in attendance at any of theirsporting events, 4-H activities, or church functions. In her free time, Jill enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and reading. She could be found nearly every Saturday at the local library. Jill regularly participated in an EHU group for women, served on various church committees, and was a very active member of local andcounty 4-H boards throughout the years the family resided in White City. When grandchildren began to come along, Jill was delighted. She was known to send cards full of stickers tothem and always had a new toy to play with when they would visit. Some of the most meaningful days to Jill ere the days her entire family would gather together for a family reunion in the summer or at the holidays in December. 

In 2019, Jerry and Jill moved to the Chapman/Abilene area. During these last few years, Jill’s family watched as Alzheimer’s invaded her mind and she slowly lost her ability to remember all things. Though she grew incapable of remembering, those who love her the most will remember her for how supportive, devoted, and loving she was as a wife, mother, and grandmother.

 Jill is survived by her loving husband, Jerold Spohn, her children Jerold Spohn Jr. (Reva), Bryon Spohn, Michael Spohn (Erin), Barbara Boggs (Matt), Jennifer Hickman (Daniel), and Susan Monnier (Mark). She isalso survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Glennand Dorcas Cooper, and her sister, Jeanne Hoffman.

A private graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. Following the service, a reception will be held at the White City Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, please consider making charitable donations to Rock Springs Ranch, a touchstone in the Spohn family, or to the United Methodist Church in White City.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Eric E. Caldwell, age 52, of Manhattan, died November 14, 2023.

He was born March 30, 1971, in Leoti, Kansas, the son of Larry E. Caldwell and E. Louise Lomax.

Eric graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1989. He began his culinary career at Prairie Dunes Country Club and then moved to Manhattan, where he became an integral part of the food and beverage operations initially at Manhattan Country Club, and then for 12 years at Harry’s and Harry’s Catering. Most recently, he was co-owner and manager of Varsity Donuts, where he served as a mentor to his young team members, not only teaching them how to manage a well-run kitchen, but also imparting valuable life skills. He cared for his staff deeply, His job was his life.

Eric was a musician, artist, and incredible chef. He was humble but extremely accomplished. He will be missed greatly by the Manhattan restaurant community, his friends, and the many people whose lives he influenced.

Eric had a variety of interests and passions, including upholstery, History, his vintage watch collection and listening to Elvis and Johnny Cash.

Survivors include his mother Louise McIntire (Jim) of Buhler, KS; his father Larry Caldwell (AvNell Mayfield) of Shelton, WA; two brothers: Adrian Caldwell (Amanda) of Hutchinson, KS, and William Caldwell (Melissa Mallon) of Nashville, TN; three step siblings: Amy Danenberg (Brian) of Manhattan, Laura Goss (Jared Casanova) of Hutchinson, and Ian McIntire (Brittani) of Hutchinson; his half-brother Matthew Caldwell of Hutchinson; eight nieces and nephews: Coyote and Phoenix Caldwell, Melaina and Ryan Goss, Miles Danenberg, Brailey, Kinsley and Madilyn McIntire; and the many students that worked with him over the years that he considered his “kids.”

A Celebration of Eric’s Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 2nd, at the University Christian Church Auditorium, 2800 Claflin Road, Manhattan, with Andrew Jansen officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to either Purple Power Animal Welfare Society or Manhattan Common Table, which provides free weekly community meals. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.

On November 14, 2023, the angels came to take our dear Granny back to her husband and daughter. Doris passed away peacefully with her youngest daughter by her side at 2:45 in the morning.

She was the daughter of Rachel and George Colson, and predeceased by her daughter Connie Chabira, and her husband Donald Kimble. Doris leaves behind her children Colleen Cain (Gilbert), Donald Kimble Jr, and Carol Barham (James). Four grandchildren, Troy, Adam, Rachel, and Miles, seven great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Call her grandma or mama, she lovingly referred to everyone as “kid.’

Everyone who met Doris loved her. Even after losing her husband and moving across state lines to be near her girls, she made new friends everywhere she went and always kept the old ones close. She was a very talented seamstress, quilter, and cook. She was a passionate game player whether it be cards, bingo, or board games, and later in life loved to puzzle. Doris was filled with love, light, and laughter. A devoted believer, she was always an active church member as long as she was able. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She will be laid to rest next to her husband of over 50 years in a private service.
