Mary Machin Hemphill was born November 1, 1942 in Wamego, KS to Ruth Elizabeth Burgess and John W. Machin II. She grew up in Manhattan, attending Bluemont Elementary school and graduating from Manhattan High School in 1960. She was baptized and joined First Baptist Church of Manhattan the same year. She married Steve E. Hemphill in 1962 and together they had two daughters. They later divorced.

Mary began her professional career at R.L. Polk and Company, and later worked as an administrative assistant at Kansas State University. After the birth of her children she became a full time homemaker and also typed papers for international students at KSU. She was a gifted seamstress and artist and her creativity added much beauty to her home. Mary also sold her arts and crafts creations at Kansas craft fairs.

She began teaching Sunday School at First Baptist Church in the 1970’s and continued in this role for many years, in addition to serving on church boards and committees and providing children’s sermons during Sunday morning worship. She was the adult leader of Brownie Troop #331 and Junior Girl Scout Troop #234, planning and leading weekly meetings and chaperoning several camping trips. Mary also served as a Region Cookie Captain, distributing all the cookies sold in the area to troop leaders.

Mary started her professional teaching career in the Office Education Program at Manhattan Vo-Tech. She returned to college and while working full-time as the bookkeeper for UFM, completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education in 1987. She then taught for a year in Wichita Public Schools before returning home to teach Elementary Art for USD 383. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Education from Kansas State. Mary was named Kansas Master Teacher in 1999. She also had the opportunity to travel to Prague, Czechoslovakia one summer for art instructor professional development.

She retired from full-time teaching in 2008, and continued to substitute teach as well as volunteer activities in the Manhattan community. Mary continued her faithful involvement at FBC Manhattan, serving as an officer in the American Baptist Women group. She was a part of two mission work trips to Appalachia and Mexico in her retirement. Mary was a volunteer docent at the Beach Museum of Art in Manhattan, a member of Alpha Kappa Delta sorority, and taught classes at the Manhattan Arts Center. She enjoyed playing bunco, spending time with her friends and family, and attending musical performances at McCain Auditorium.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John W. Machin III.

She is survived by two daughters, Amy Hemphill of Indianapolis, Indiana and Marcie Hemphill of Atlanta, Georgia; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Bailey of Columbus, Indiana; a sister, Margi Barber (Bob) of Hurricane, Utah; a sister-in-law, Janice Machin of Riley, KS; longtime companion Bob Ford of Baldwin, KS; her “partners-in-crime” the Unicorn Girls; three nephews, one niece, six great-nephews, two great nieces, one great grandniece, and her Machin and Burgess cousins.

A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29th, at the First Baptist Church, 2121 Blue Hills Rd., Manhattan, KS, with Pastor Chris Geyer officiating. Private family inurnment will be in the Wabaunsee Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p .m. Friday, October 28th at the First Baptist Church.

Mary Machin Hemphill - November 1, 1942  -  October 20, 2022

Carmen Licette Kemnitz, age 59, of St. George, died October 18, 2022, at her residence.

She was born November 14, 1962, in Utuado, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Arcadio and Maria Zoraida (Andujar) Rivera.

Carmen joined the United States Army at the age of 17, and served for several years.

She was married to Bruce Quinn. They had on son Scott Edward Quinn. The later divorced. She met Michael Jon Kemnitz while she was working at Hidden Valley Ski Resort in Pennsylvania where she was the Group Sales Manager in the winter and worked in the golf shop in the summers. Carmen and Michael were married June 5, 2000, in Colorado Springs, CO.

Carmen worked for Boston Culinary Group as a manager and had worked at Broadmoor World Arena, Big Mountain Ski Resort, Kansas State University, the University of Mississippi, Dolphin Stadium, and Bristol Motor Speedway.

She loved all cats and adopted as many as possible and enjoyed all sports.

Survivors include her husband Michael of the home; one son Scott Edward Quinn and his wife Angela, and children Austin Rudy and Aubrey Quinn of Topeka; and several brothers and sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation is planned with private family services.

Ronnie Hanschu, 72 of Ramona passed away October 15, 2022 at Salem Nursing Home in Hillsboro. He was born February 17, 1950 in Herington, Kansas, the son of Wilbur and Burma (Schlesener) Hanschu. He went to school at Ramona Grade School and graduated from Centre High School. He was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ramona. Ronnie is survived by his loving wife Lisa of the home. His mother, Burma Hanschu. Four daughters: Sommer Durante; Stephanie Keller and husband Chad; Dr. Melissa House and husband Jon; and Anna Weber and friend, Austin Johnson. One step-son, Gordon Hunicutt and wife Sarah and one brother, Rick Hanschu and wife Barb. His family, His grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews/great nieces and nephews and so many who loved and admired him. He was preceded in death by his dad, Wilbur, a brother, Rory Hanschu and a son, James Weber. The family has chosen cremation. A Celebration of Life Service for Ronnie will be at his homestead, (3510 Sunflower, Ramona, Kansas 67475) at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 22. Casual attire and services as Ronnie would want it. He dedicated his life to farming, working the ground and caring for livestock. He was a Distributor for Archer Oil for over 30 years and he served in the US Army Reserves. He was a source of strength for Lisa. Life was not always easy, but the love they shared always endured beyond any obstacles they faced. It was the sound of his diesel truck coming up the driveway that always made her know that everything would be ok. His love and companionship will be deeply missed by her. Susan “Susie” Kummer passed away on Oct. 17, 2022 after battling cancer since Nov. 2020.

 Susie was born on May 1, 1953 in Woodbine, Kansas. She was the daughter of Lowell and Helen Hettenbach. She was the second of five children. She had two brothers: Paul and Bruce. She had two sisters: Mary and Karen. Her family moved to Abilene when she was a young child. As a child, she was involved in Girl Scouts and the Sand Springs 4-H club. In high school, she baby-sat for neighborhood children and worked at Tasty-Freeze in Abilene. She graduated from Abilene High School in May of 1971. On July 18, 1971, she married John Kummer of Chapman, Kansas at the First United Methodist Church in Abilene, Kansas. She and John had three children Jennifer Bisel (Dave) of Topeka, KS, Johnny Kummer of Shawnee, Kansas, and Jimmy Kummer (Kim) of Ottawa, Kansas.

 She worked in the Chapman High School cafeteria for many years as well as helped on the farm and building a new home after the family had a house fire in 1990. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and children. Her hobbies were gardening, flowers and quilting. She enjoyed helping her children with their 4-H projects and school activities. 

She is survived by her husband of 51 years John, her three children and five grandchildren: Danica, Ella, Evan, Ethan and Jacob. She is also survived by her brother Bruce and her two sisters. Her brother Paul preceded her in death. The family will have a visitation on Friday, October 21, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. at Danner Funeral Home. Funeral services are set for Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene, KS. James Warren (Jim, Jimmy) Price, 88, Junction City, KS, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022, at his Milford lake-front home. A visitation and Celebration of Life were held Monday and Tuesday at Milford Congregational Church with Pastor Dirk Westerman officiating and music performed by Jim’s son in-law, Jose Garcia. Burial followed the service at Milford Cemetery.&nbsp; Memorials may be made to Milford Congregational Church. James Warren (Jim, Jimmy) Price 88, was born to Irvin Garland and Pauline Alice Price on October 14, 1934, Keyser, West Virginia. He went to be with the Lord Jesus, his parents and siblings, on October 16, 2022 from his Milford lake-front home in Milford, Kansas. Jim was the son of a military family that traveled a lot in his younger years before settling in Ft. Riley, Kansas, in 1944. He was a graduate of Junction City High School in 1953. On May 17, 1957, Jim was drafted to serve in the Army overseas in France at the Ammo Depot #7831 for almost two years until May 11, 1959 and remained under reserve status until 1963. Jim moved with his mother and brother Garland Price to the Los Angeles Area (Encino), California upon his honorable discharge from the Army in 1959. Jim began his employment as a banker in 1961 at Union Bank in North Hollywood, California and then transitioned into a long-lasting career in banking in 1967 at City National Bank in numerous Los Angeles areas of California. He worked his way up the career ladder at City National Bank by starting as a teller, progressing into Management and even as an Operations Officer until he retired as a Vice President of City National Bank in 1994. Jim married Sharon Kay Price on May 19, 1962 in North Hollywood, California. Upon Sharon and Jim’s departed and eventually divorced in 1996. Jim moved back to his favorite hometown to join his sister Mary (Susie) Parks were he would spend the rest of his life. Jim lived with his sister Susie for a short while until he met Genevieve (Genny). After a brief courtship with Genny, Jim proposed and they were married in 2001 Milford, Kansas. Jim held many interests that included automobiles, traveling, camping, BBQing, watching cowboy movies, listening to music including, popular, county, oldies, crooner, and rock and roll. He loved building and maintaining things such as bicycles, model trains, wooden rocking horses, bird houses, mowing lawns and gardening of the beautiful flowers he tended. He loved watching hid grandchildren grow and particularly loved holiday times with the family all together. His favorite spot was in his chair at home viewing Milford Lake from his Livingroom and this is the place where he completed his earthly journey in peace and harmony. Jim was a Milford Church member and a member of the Lions Club. He served for a few years as the President of the Lions Club in Milford, Kansas. Survivors include: Wife, Genevieve Dandondson of Milford Kansas; Ex-wife Sharon Kay Price of Los Angeles, California; Son, Brian Fredrick Price of Bishop California, Daughter Sheral Leanne and Frank Hewes of Falls of Rough, Kentucky; Daughter Colleen Gayle and Jose (Joe) Garcia; Step-Daughter Lori and Doug; Step-Son David and wife Kerril Bauerly, Alan and wife Kristen; Grandsons Kenny Hewes and Thomas (Tommy) Hewes; great-grandchildren Mathew, Eliza, Corey, Claire and Charlie. He worked his way up the career ladder at City National Bank by starting as a teller, progressing into Management and even as an Operations Officer until he retired as a Vice President of City National Bank in 1994. Jim married Sharon Kay Price on May 19, 1962 in North Hollywood, California. Upon Sharon and Jim’s departed and eventually divorced in 1996. Jim moved back to his favorite hometown to join his sister Mary (Susie) Parks were he would spend the rest of his life. Jim lived with his sister Susie for a short while until he met Genevieve (Genny). After a brief courtship with Genny, Jim proposed and they were married in 2001 Milford, Kansas. Jim held many interests that included automobiles, traveling, camping, BBQing, watching cowboy movies, listening to music including, popular, county, oldies, crooner, and rock and roll. He loved building and maintaining things such as bicycles, model trains, wooden rocking horses, bird houses, mowing lawns and gardening of the beautiful flowers he tended. He loved watching hid grandchildren grow and particularly loved holiday times with the family all together. His favorite spot was in his chair at home viewing Milford Lake from his Livingroom and this is the place where he completed his earthly journey in peace and harmony. Jim was a Milford Church member and a member of the Lions Club. He served for a few years as the President of the Lions Club in Milford, Kansas. Survivors include: Wife, Genevieve Dandondson of Milford Kansas; Ex-wife Sharon Kay Price of Los Angeles, California; Son, Brian Fredrick Price of Bishop California, Daughter Sheral Leanne and Frank Hewes of Falls of Rough, Kentucky; Daughter Colleen Gayle and Jose (Joe) Garcia; Step-Daughter Lori and Doug; Step-Son David and wife Kerril Bauerly, Alan and wife Kristen; Grandsons Kenny Hewes and Thomas (Tommy) Hewes; great-grandchildren Mathew, Eliza, Corey, Claire and Charlie. He was preceded in death by his Sister, Mary (Susie) Parks and Brother-in-law John William Parks; nephew Ronald E. Parks of Junction City, KS, his parents Irvin Garland and Pauline Alice Price of West Virginia; and brothers Richard Price of Canoga Park, CA and Garland (Gene) Price of Washington.

Sue grew up on a farm and attended Westmoreland High School graduating in 1960.&nbsp; She married Patrick C. Ebert in 1961 and worked with Pat and his brother, Jim, for many years at Ebert Construction Co. in Wamego, KS.&nbsp; They had two daughters, Kim, and Kelli.&nbsp;

Sue founded Kansas Farm and Home Real Estate in the 1980s and was a licensed real estate appraiser.&nbsp; She was active in the Wamego Chamber of Commerce and a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.&nbsp; She married Wilfred “Ike” Eichman in 1989 and they enjoyed many years of traveling, fishing, and spending time with their friends, children, and grandchildren.&nbsp;

Sue and Ike later moved to Georgetown, TX (Sun City), where Sue made many close friends, was active in the book, gaming, and travel clubs, and served as her neighborhood block captain.&nbsp; She especially enjoyed her extensive travels all over the world.&nbsp; She was also a regular volunteer at The Caring Place Thrift Shop and a member of Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church in Florence, TX.&nbsp; Sue’s energy and spark for life will be greatly missed.&nbsp;

She was born on December 26, 1945, to Fay and Hilda (Orthmann) Pomeroy. On July 29, 1977, she married Eugene Simonsmeier where they lived in Howards Grove, WI, for forty-five years. Gene and she started a corporation, Lightening Express, utilizing his nickname “Lightening”. They enjoyed traveling, NASCAR and Green Bay Packer Games. She enjoyed gardening and ensuring that the berms around the yard where full of beautiful flowers and bird watching. Together they raised six daughters together to make a large family. Margaret is survived by her children Jeri Gumtow, and Samantha (William) Allen; three stepdaughters: Vicki Simonsmeier, Patricia Simonsmeier and Cindy (Michael) Cartright; eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two sisters Karen (John) Kohler and Penny Broadway. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, her parents, her daughter Tina Campion, sister Marge Glander, and niece Kim Breckheimer. The entire family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of Valley View Senior Living, Heritage Hall, especially the nurses who took care of Margaret on a day to day basis. Kenneth R. Pyke, 93 of Abilene passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He was born September 11, 1929 in Abilene, Kansas, the son of Roy W. and Ruth K. (Gish) Pyke. Kenny grew up in Abilene, attended the Abilene school districts and graduated from Abilene High School. On October 28, 1951, he was united in marriage to Carole L. Allison in Wichita, Kansas. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1951, serving two years in the 11th Airborne stationed in Ft. Campbell. He was the manager at A&amp;P Grocery and later worked as an assistant team leader at Duckwalls. He was a member of the Abilene First Christian Church in Abilene, and was a member of the Eisenhower Foundation and the Dickinson County Historical Society.

 Kenny is survived by two daughters-in-law: Dianne (Wood) Pyke of Springfield, Missouri and Kathleen (Newlin) Pyke of Hays, Kansas. Grandchildren: Amanda (Pyke) Brantley (Stuart); Christopher Pyke; and Scott Pyke. Great-Grandchildren: Cobie, Coltin, and Ryker Pyke. One sister-in-law, Barbara Pyke and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Carole, two sons, Thomas Pyke and Dale Pyke and a brother, Ralph Pyke.

Wilberta Hulett, 85, of Saint George, KS, formerly from Humansville, MO, passed away October 11, 2022 at Ascension Via Christi in Manhattan, KS after a short illness.

On December 20, 1936 Claude and Martha (Ballard) Paul welcome into this world Wilberta Jane. Along with her big Sister Maggie Belle, they were the apples of their parents’ eyes. Even though there was a 10-year difference between the two sisters, they were extremely close and each other’s best friend until Maggie’s death.

In 1952 a tall lanky guy caught Wilberta’s eyes and she caught his eyes as well. The courtship began and the couple soon were almost inseparable. On July 31, 1954 Wilberta and Roy Hulett were married and the love affair continued for more than 61 years, until Roy’s passing in 2016. Although, Wilberta enjoyed her remaining years, her heart longed to be reunited with Roy Dee.

Wilberta happily followed Roy wherever she could while he served in the United States Army. While they explored the world the filled their home with four children, Ronda, Flora, Roy, Jr. and Jimmy. Raising her family was her priority during those years. Sharing her talents by making uniforms, flags, banners and other sport related items.

Wilberta wasn’t a soccer Mom, she was a Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Football, Scout, 4-H, Rodeo, Horse Shows, Saddle Club and Farm Mom. She also spent time volunteering at the children’s schools. Wilberta’s family was her pride and joy.

While Roy Dee served in Korea and Vietnam, Wilberta kept the home fires burning teaching their children about Faith. Teaching them to pray for their Daddy every night. Showing them the same sun and moon they saw was the same lights to guide their Daddy.

After Roy’s retirement from the Army, they returned home to Humansville, Missouri where they would live together until Roy Dee’s death.

While in Humansville, Wilberta worked as a Certified Med Tech at Big Springs Nursing Home for over 30 years.

Wilberta is survived by her children Ronda Lean, Collins MO, Flora Beckman, Clinton MO, Roy Jr. (Irma), Saint George KS, Jimmy (Angela) Omaha NE; brother-in-law Rex (Wanita) Hulett, Milford KS, sister-in-laws Catherine (Bill) Garrison, Springfield MO, Judy (Paul) Bissing, Seguin TX; her 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wilberta was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, son-in-law Larry Lean, sister Maggie (Floyd) Kelly, sisters-in-law Peggy, Waneta, Tudy and Gayle, brothers-in-law Elsworth, Vic and Paul.

Jane Ann (Stratton) Runyan, age 88, of Grinnell, Iowa died Monday evening, October 10, 2022, at Meadowlark Hills, in Manhattan, Kansas with her family by her bedside.

Jane was raised and grew up on a farm in Maxwell, Iowa where she met her lifelong friends Roberta and Paul Viers. She attended K-12 in Maxwell, graduating from Maxwell High School in 1952. After graduating from High School, Jane attended the Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in Cedar Falls. Following her sophomore year Jane met and married John Avery Runyan from Collins, Iowa on October 2, 1954.

Jane worked for WHO-Radio/TV to support her husband through college at Drake University. She dedicated herself to raising her young family, while supporting her husband as his career was being established. Together they moved multiple times beginning in Des Moines, Iowa (1955), Gary/Valparaiso, IN (1956 to 1963), Pittsburgh, PA (1964 to 1967), Detroit, MI (1968 to 1969), Anniston, AL (1969 to 1972), Morgantown, WV (1972 to 1974), Montreal Quebec (1974 to 1976), and then finally settling in Grinnell, Iowa (1976).

Jane is survived by her six children: Rhonda Hudson, Grinnell, Iowa; Robin Runyan (Carol), Pennsauken, New Jersey; Ryan Runyan (Sharon), Manhattan, KS; Roberta Moore (Scott) Dallas, Georgia; Paul Runyan (Kathy) Webster City, Iowa; and Rachele Pang (Davin), Gilbert, Arizona. Jane’s youngest sister, Mary Lou Dahms, of Traer, Iowa; her 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her best friend Roberta Viers, son in law Marc Hudson, her brother Paul, sister Lois Seebach and brother-in-laws, Loren Seebach and Richard ‘Dick’ Dahms, and her granddaughter, Metta Runyan.

Jane worked for GTE in Grinnell, Iowa for over 19 years and retiring from the company in 1990. Following her retirement from GTE, Jane spent the next 20 years as a Sorority/Fraternity house mom at Kansas State University, Iowa State University - University of Iowa and Arizona State. During her summer breaks she enjoyed traveling to visit her children. She loved the young students she served as a “House Mother,” which also allowed her to live close to her children and grandchildren.&nbsp; Jane loved her grandchildren and took great pride planning tea parties for them, playing Pinochle, singing family songs she would write herself and dressing up in costumes for Halloween.

In 1996, Jane along with her best friend, Roberta Viers and daughter Roberta were security volunteers for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia and was adopted by many of the USA Basketball players. We can’t stress this enough---Jane’s passion in life was her family and the love of her life were her 6 children, her 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Jane was a believer in Jesus Christ and was baptized in the United Methodist Church denomination.

The family will greet friends during a visitation on April 14, 2023 with a Memorial Service to be held on April 15, 2023, times will be announced at later date.

Following her retirement from GTE, Jane spent the next 20 years as a Sorority/Fraternity house mom at Kansas State University, Iowa State University - University of Iowa and Arizona State. During her summer breaks she enjoyed traveling to visit her children. She loved the young students she served as a “House Mother,” which also allowed her to live close to her children and grandchildren.&nbsp; Jane loved her grandchildren and took great pride planning tea parties for them, playing Pinochle, singing family songs she would write herself and dressing up in costumes for Halloween.In 1996, Jane along with her best friend, Roberta Viers and daughter Roberta were security volunteers for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia and was adopted by many of the USA Basketball players. We can’t stress this enough---Jane’s passion in life was her family and the love of her life were her 6 children, her 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Jane was a believer in Jesus Christ and was baptized in the United Methodist Church denomination.Grandma Janie was loved by her family.The family will greet friends during a visitation on April 14, 2023 with a Memorial Service to be held on April 15, 2023, times will be announced at later date.Memorial contributions in memory of Jane are suggested to the T. Shirley Mae Cummings, 81, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, October 6, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan.

She was born June 20, 1941, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Freeman E. and Nita M. (Stricklin) Biery. She lived most of her younger years in Manchester and Mankato, Kansas. After she graduated from Mankato High School she worked for Kansas State University until her retirement. She was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan.

She married Richard A. Cummings in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta on August 24, 1968. They had one daughter, Gloria M. Cummings. Richard predeceased her on July 24, 2021.

Shirley is survived by daughter Gloria of Manhattan, and her five siblings, Terry L. Biery, Bonnie F. Biery, Galen E. (Cheryl) Biery, Rick F. (Maureen) Biery, and Teresa E. (Cynthia) Biery, eight nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She will be remembered for her love of family and her desire to see and hear about them and all their activities.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Via Christi Village for the care and concern for Shirley’s comfort and well-being.

Ella Mae Kimmal, 82, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Friday (September 16, 2022) at her home surrounded by her family under the care of St. Croix Hospice.&nbsp; She went to be in her Heavenly Home and joined her husband, Richard, who passed away on September 11, 2022.

Born October 13, 1939 in Aurora, Kansas, Ella Mae was the daughter of Octave and Etta (Chaput) Istas.

Ella Mae was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the St. Bernard Guild.&nbsp; She was an accomplished seamstress, quilter, and cook and enjoyed teaching these skills to many people over the years.&nbsp; A strong faith, positive outlook on life, and sense of humor made Ella Mae a blessing to be around and she was the happiest when giving of herself and helping others in need.&nbsp; She cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was employed as a bookkeeper for Kaw Valley State Bank for many years until her retirement.

Ella Mae married her high school sweetheart, Richard L. Kimmal on November 16, 1957, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia, KS. He preceded her in death on September 11, 2022. They enjoyed nearly 65 years of marriage and shared their love with three children, Cindy Bisnette (Tim) of Wamego, KS, Jerry Kimmal of Concordia, KS, and Kathy Wagoner (Paul) of Wamego, KS. Ella enjoyed being a grandmother to Jamie Swanson (Erik), Sam Bisnette (Magda), Adam Bisnette (Shanna), Jenna Barlow (Scott), and Megan Kugler (Jake) as well as to her twelve great-grandchildren, Keegan, Ameliah, and Emery Swanson, Isaac, Elijah, and Caleb Bisnette, Brenn, Blake and Trey Barlow, and Jax, Kate and Ava Kugler. She is also survived by her sister, Theresa Peltier (Jim) of Concordia, KS and many nieces and nephews.

Ella Mae was preceded in death by her parents; and thirteen siblings, Eldon, Art, Verle, Pat, Buck, Bill, Neoma, Clara, Marceline, Pauline, Marie, Gladys and Melvin.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.

Born December 16, 1951, in Romford, England, Irene was the daughter of Jorgen Scheuer and Phyllis Elsie (Savage) Rasmussen. Irene married Lee Provencher on December 27, 1976, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. &nbsp; &nbsp;

Irene was an avid antique collector, yard sale bargainer and was passionate about interior design&nbsp;and decorating. She made everything in the home beautiful for her beloved family. Irene was known for her quirky sense of humor, free spirited approach to life and love of Shih Tzu dogs.

Irene worked many years in the restaurant business as an owner/operator and as a diamond consultant in the retail jewelry industry.

&nbsp;Irene was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband Lee Provencher, children: Rachel Meltzer (Larry); Matthew Provencher (Theresa) and grandchildren: Ryan, Max, Sam, Rosie and Sophia.

Ralph M. Bieker, of Hoxie, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 
2022, at the age of ninety at Sheridan County Health Complex Long Term 
Care. He was born in Grainfield, Kansas, to Ludwig and Ludwina (Munsch) 
Bieker on October 26, 1931. He grew up in Hoxie, Kansas and attended 
Sheridan Community High School graduating with the class of 1950. After 
graduating from high school, Ralph entered the United States Army. He 
served his country for two years working as office personnel at Fort 
Riley Army Base. Upon discharge from the Army Ralph returned to Hoxie, 
Kansas where he worked and lived for the rest of his life.

Ralph
 worked for Central Kansas Power Company, and then for Summerson 
Abstract Company as an abstractor until he retired in 1976. Ralph was a 
well-known photographer and took pictures for weddings, senior class 
pictures, and many other occasions. He also sold monuments for the Smith
 Monument Company. Ralph was a worker, but he also enjoyed playing golf 
and could often be found out on the golf course. He loved his family and
 enjoyed his many nieces and nephews. He was a faithful member of the 
St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

Ralph
 is survived by his brothers, Eugene Bieker and wife Pauletta of 
Oberlin, Kansas; Alexander Bieker and wife, Willetta of McCook, 
Nebraska; sisters, Eleanora Douglass of Afton, Oklahoma; Mary Kathern 
Sanders and Elizabeth Stillman of Hoxie, Kansas; sisters-in-law, 
Virginia Bieker, Arlene Bieker,  Sue Bieker; and many nieces, nephews, 
and friends.

She was a member of the Schoenchen Altar Society and St. Joseph Church of Hays for many years.

Roland Eugene Nuss, 77, of Hutchinson, died October 12, 2022, at his 
home. He was born June 29, 1945, in St. Joseph, MO, to Roland B. and 
Henrietta L. (Gagelman) Nuss.

Roland graduated from Great Bend High School in 1963 and received his
 bachelors in Business from Fort Hays State University in 1967. Roland 
worked as a buyer for Dillons, supervisor for Kwik Shop, and in sales at
 Collins Bus and Cabinet Connections. He loved the mountains, his 
Tuesday morning coffee group, Tuesday night tennis group, watching 
sports of all kinds – especially K-State and Salthawk sports - with 
Rita, and spending time with his family most of all. Roland was a 
long-time devoted member of Eastwood Church of Christ where he had 
served as a deacon.

On June 5, 1971, Roland married Rita K. Woods, in Dodge City. She survives.

Also surviving are: his daughters, Melissa Thorne (Gavin) of Windsor,
 CO, Jennifer Farr (Jamie) of Junction City; and grandchildren, Grady 
and Kinley Thorne and Mason and Colin Farr.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2022, at Eastwood
 Church of Christ, 2500 N. Plum St., Hutchinson, with ministers Wayne 
DeWindt and Jimie-Wray Mead officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to
 5 p.m. Saturday and 1-8 p.m., with the family present to receive 
friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

Cremation will follow with a private family scattering in his beloved mountains at a later date.

Chase Garrett Ehlers, the son of Ted and Marcia (Dunn) Ehlers, was 
born on June 12, 1996 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He passed away on October 10,
 2022 at Manhattan, Kansas at the age of 26 years, 3 months, 28 days.

Chase was baptized in the Webber United Methodist Church. 
Growing up, Chase attended many schools including Mt. View Elementary in
 Mt. View, Hawaii; North Polk Elementary School in Fort Polk, Louisiana;
 Stowers Elementary in Fort Benning, Georgia; Chapman Middle School in 
Chapman, Kansas and was a graduate of Lawrence/Nelson High School in 
Nelson, Nebraska. After graduating he attended the University of 
Nebraska for a time before enlisting in the United States Army on June 
22, 2015 earning the National Defense service medal and Army service 
Ribbon. Chase was honorably discharged on December 20, 2017 and 
continued his education at the Kansas State University where he 
presently was enrolled.

Throughout Chase’s life, he lived in the communities of Helemano,
 HI, Fort Benning, GA, Mountain View, HI, Fort Polk, LA, Chapman, KS, 
Nelson, NE, presently living in Manhattan, KS.

Chase was preceded in death by his grandparents Duane and Pat 
Ehlers. Survivors include his parents Ted and Marcia and his brother 
Nash all of Chapman, Kansas; grandparents Don and Ardythe Dunn of 
Deshler, Nebraska and Paul and Linda Hutchinson of Superior, Nebraska;

Chase Garrett Ehlers

Jack Lloyd Mace, 77, of Hutchinson, died October 12, 2022, at Hospice
 House. He was born November 26, 1944, in Sterling, to Lloyd Valentine 
and Violet Sophia (Wibbeler) Mace.

Jack graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1962. He then attended 
Bethel College, and Mennonite Biblical Seminary earning his master’s 
degree. Jack worked as a draftsman, photographer, and several 
construction companies. However, his favorite job was being a substitute
 teacher for local school districts.

Jack was an artist, he enjoyed making paintings, drawings, and 
woodwork. His biggest passion was helping people, especially those 
facing adversity. Jack helped start Interfaith Housing and Community 
Services, in Hutchinson, and with special education classes at 
Hutchinson High School. Jack never knew a stranger and was quite the 
jokester, he enjoyed cracking jokes with the staff caring for him during
 his final days.

Jack was a loving husband, father and a very active member of First Mennonite Church, in Hutchinson.

On June 14, 1964, he married the love of his life, Deanna Klaassen at Eden Mennonite Church, Moundridge.

Jack is survived by: his wife, Deanna Mace of Hutchinson; sons, 
Brandon Mace of Wichita, and Brian Mace of Arlington, TX; brothers, 
Eugene (Sally) Mace of Peoria, IL, and Glenn (Marilee) Mace of Sterling;
 sister, Wanda Hart of Norman, OK; and a sister-in-law, Andrea Mace of 
Junction City.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Naomi Phinney; brothers, Alvin Mace and his wife Martha, and Ron Mace. &nbsp;

Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at 
First Mennonite Church, 52 Rambler Rd, Hutchinson, with Pastor, Tonya 
Wenger officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. 
Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the church after 
inurnment. Friends may sign his book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday 
through Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Carolyn Sue “Nana” Knorr, age 72, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022 at the Leonardville Nursing Home.

She was born on February 3, 1950 in San Diego, California, the daughter of LaVonne Franklin and Mary Louise (Herrod) Bird.&nbsp; She was one of seven children.

She is survived by four daughters, Marlo Hoffman and husband Josh, Danyale Knorr, Lisa Bailey and husband Daniel, Mari Graham and husband Shannon; thirteen grandchildren, Boo Boo, Devin, Sissy, Hanny Banany, Bubby, Randi Pants, Timmer, Kelli bug, Lizard, Emmy Lou, Davey boy, Annie, and Brooky Bear; four great grandchildren and one sibling, Pamela Hernandez of Santee, California.

She worked in a variety of jobs throughout her life, but always enjoyed working and volunteering at the Leonardville Nursing Home.&nbsp; Her grandchildren were her life.&nbsp;Nana was a free spirit. She was an incredible storyteller with the gift of humor.&nbsp;Her creative side was displayed by her arts and crafts and drawings.&nbsp;Nana was authentic, a genuine human, a comedic hippie, a bona-fide gladiator, and the matriarch of the pinky clan. PINKY!! The Nan, the myth, the legend!!

Cremation is planned with a Celebration of Life to be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 19, 2022 at the Alert Covenant Church.&nbsp; Private family inurnment will be in the Leonardville City Cemetery.

In honor of Nana’s love for Jesus, a memorial fund is established for Alert Covenant Church.&nbsp; Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Linda Diane Mays, age 72 of Green, was called to heaven on October 7, 2022.

She was born on February 4, 1950 in Clay Center, the daughter of Orville and Lois Asp.

On June 8, 1971, she married Roland Dean Mays at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Clay Center.&nbsp; To this union, two daughters were born, Jennifer Diane on April 11, 1972 and Katie Nicole on February 5, 1981.

Two sons-in-law became family when Michael Anderson married Katie on June 27, 1998 and Jonathan Wilson married Jennifer on June 29, 2002.

Linda’s four grandchildren were the light of her life.&nbsp; Kurtis Dean Anderson - August 25, 1998, Joshua Michael Wilson - August 8, 2005, Joseph Dean Wilson - February 8, 2007 and Lillian Kay Anderson - July 4, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert and her grandson, Kurtis Anderson.

She is survived by her husband, Roland Mays of Green; her daughters, Jenny (Jon) Wilson of Cordell, Oklahoma and Katie (Mike) Anderson of Green; her sister, Kim (Stan) Fry of Green; three grandchildren, Josh Wilson, Joe Wilson and Lilly Anderson and a host of other family and friends.

On Tuesday, October 11th, Daniel (Dan) Lee Jones passed away in Abilene, Kansas. He was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. He was 73. Dan was born to Harry and Margaret Jones on October 24,1948 in Junction City, KS. He lived for many years in Enterprise until his family moved to Chapman when he was in middle school. His family were members of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Chapman. In 1966, he graduated from Dickinson County Community High School. He attended Kansas State Technical Institute in Salina and received an associate degree in Airframe &amp; Powerplant as well as Computer Science. He married Christine (Chris) Schlesener on July 29, 1974. Together, Dan and Chris moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma and worked for Applied Automation which was later acquired by ABB. He worked as a computer systems analyst for 37 years until he retired in 2011. He was proud of the work he did and he valued the relationships and friendships he formed along the way. His main goal was to make everyone else's job easier. In 2016, Dan &amp; Chris moved full time to their lake home on Grand Lake in Jay, Oklahoma. Dan enjoyed fixing up this home for his family and friends and always had a to-do list with many projects. He was a man with many hidden talents from working on cars, to electrical and plumbing. There was never a task that he wouldn’t try. Dan also loved fishing, hunting, and sightseeing at Grand Lake but his true love was spending time with his daughters and granddaughters. There was never a play, performance, or athletic competition that he missed. When his daughters were growing up, he could be found volunteering his time coaching many youth sports teams in the Bartlesville area including Washington County and Blazer ASA Softball. He also coached many YMCA and AAU Basketball teams. He was passionate about teaching everyone to play the game the correct way and believed that so many life lessons could be learned by playing sports. He loved his alma mater, The Chapman Irish, and would be seen and heard at many sporting events loudly cheering them on. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Mike Dolton. He is survived by his wife Chris of 48 years; his daughters, Dr. Stacy Jones of Salina, KS and Sara (Kyle) Cook and granddaughters Callie and Madison Cook of Chapman, KS. He is also survived by his sisters, Diane Dolton of Salina, KS and Kathy Riffel of Topeka, KS as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Chapman, KS from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, October 16.&nbsp; A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 17 at 10 a.m. at St.&nbsp; Michael’s followed by burial at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Chapman.

Wilma Jean Anderson, age 93, of Manhattan, died October 9, 2022, at Stoneybrook Retirement Community.

She was born July 2, 1929, in Cleburne, Kansas, the daughter of Chester Cordell and Theresa E. (Christopher) Wilkinson.

On January 11, 1947, she was married to Kenneth W. Anderson. Kenneth preceded her in death on June 11, 1998.

Wilma Jean was a homemaker and was the bookkeeper/receptionist with her husband at Anderson Supply Company.

She graduated from Manhattan High School in 1947. She was a member of College Avenue United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler for many years.
