Beverly Ann Wilder, 64, Junction City, Kansas passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas. Cremation will take place. Heaven has claimed the life of Joy C. Johnson of Manhattan, KS. She was 83 years old and died peacefully on October 4, 2022 at Meadowlark Hills. She fought a battle with cancer for thelast year. Joy was born on May 1, 1939 in Plainville, KS to Louis and Opal Hrabe. She was a graduate of&nbsp; Stockton High School, class of 1957. She moved to Manhattan, KS to attend ManhattanChristian College where she met the love of her life, Dennis Johnson. They were married on December 20, 1958. Dennis and Joy raised two children, Judy Jo (1960) and David Duane (1961). They spent their early married years in Abilene, KS where Dennis worked at KP&amp;L and Joy received a bachelor’s degree from Marymount College in Salina, KS. Joy taught social sciences at Abilene High School. They also managed the King Solomon Christian Camp near Solomon, KS while working their jobs in Abilene. Joy was well known for her excellent homemade food she prepared for the campers each summer. The Lord called them to move to Manhattan, KS and join the Manhattan Christian College family. They held several job positions depending on the needs of the College. After the high school graduations of their children from Manhattan High School, Dennis and Joy moved to the Johnson family farm south of Abilene, KS to take care of Grandpa Frank and the farm. During this time, Joy enjoyed raising a few horses and showing them with her daughter and grandchildren. She won several awards on the Eastern Kansas Horseman’s Association and made many friends. Faith and Family were a big part of Joy’s life. She cherished her personal relationship with her savior, Jesus Christ. She loved studying her Bible and preparing Bible lessons to share with others. She also loved playing the piano and organ for church services. Joy was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Abilene and the University Christian Church in Manhattan. Joy was a loving, caring grandmother who was very generous. She loved spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren and her great granddaughters even as she was battling cancer during the past year. Joy is survived by her daughter, Judy Parsons and husband, Bob of Hugoton, KS; sons David Johnson and wife Keiko of Manhattan and Bill Watt and wife, Katherine of Junction City, KS; Grandchildren Eli Gantenbein, Salina; Levi Gantenbein and wife Katelyn, Manhattan; Claire Johnson, San Diego, CA and Donny Johnson, Manhattan. Great granddaughters Emma and Amelia Gantenbein, Manhattan. Her sisters Betty Raney of CA and Phyllis Hart of Plainville; and her brother, Debert Hrabe and wife Jeanne of Overland Park, KS. She will be missed by her many extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Johnson; her parents; her step father, Leo Bonneau; her brother Doyal Hrabe. William George Winslow, age 87, died at Clay County Medical Center on October 1, 2022. He was born in Liberty, NE to Richard and Lydia (Caulkins) Winslow on November 6, 1934. William was a graduate of Barnston High School in Nebraska.

 He joined the United States Army in 1952 and completed basic training at Camp Roberts in California. William then completed aviation mechanic’s and qualified on the M-1 rifle as a marksman. He was assigned to various units, including 1905th, 811th&nbsp;aviation engineering battalions in California and Seoul Korea for 3 years as well as various other units in Germany in the 50’s through 1965. In 1965, he was assigned as a senior mechanic in Fort Hood, TX then as a section chief to the 809th&nbsp;Engineering Battalion. William deployed to Thailand for a year. He returned from deployment to Fort Leonard Wood as section chief and was then moved to Baumholder, Germany until 1969. William ended his active-duty career in 1970 after a seven-month deployment to Phu Bai, Vietnam. He earned four good conduct and campaign medals. William enlisted in the Kansas National Guard in 1971 where he earned a meritorious service medal. He exited his military career as a sergeant first class.

 During various points in his military career, William also attended some classes at Kansas State University, and received a diploma in Computer Repair from international correspondence school in Pennsylvania. He married Margaret Roberts on November 4, 1956. She preceded him in death on April 26, 2019. He completed 80 hours as an instructor for engine rebuild techniques at Salina Vo-tech after his time in the service. William worked for and retired from RSMS on Fort Riley. He also worked for CASA for a few years as well as various other jobs. William was a member of the Masons. 

Though sometimes viewed as a “Grumpy Old Man,” William had the biggest heart and would help anyone. He loved going to the hospital for breakfast in the morning and visiting, he never met a stranger. William also had a passion for genealogy, but most of all he loved his furry companions, Lily and Ginger.&nbsp; In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents and brother: Harold Winslow.

Carey “Lee” Cunningham, 75 of Manchester passed away September 15, 2022 at Salina Regional Hospital. He was born July 18, 1947 in Johnstown, PA, the son of Charles and Viola (Ross) Cunningham. He enlisted in the United States Army February 17, 1971. He served in the Vietnam War as sergeant. Carey was an over the road trucker.

He is survived by his significant other, Brenda (Mussey) Presley. Daughters: Ann (Ron) Cummings and Joy-Lynn Carlson and one son, Scott (Tara) Cunningham. Siblings: Vernon Cunningham; Ed Cunningham and Cheryl Hunt and Four grandchildren: Desiree Cunningham; Justin Cummings, Jeremy Cunningham and Jaqix Lee Carlson. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family has chosen cremation.

Linda Terese Gronquist, 72, of Alma, KS, passed away peacefully on, Friday, September 30, 2022, at Stormont Vail Hospital surrounded by her family.

Linda was born on April 8, 1950, in Kansas City, the daughter of Art and Sue Gillum Johnson. As a child she enjoyed childhood trips to Marquette, MI, a tradition she passed along to her own children during excursions to the island, wading in cold Lake Superior and enjoying pasties.

She attended Shawnee Mission North High School and Kansas State Teacher’s College, majoring in Education. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority, serving as its Membership Chair and was thrilled when her granddaughter joined a sorority at ESU.

She was active in Girl Scouts as both a scout and a leader. Linda was also a gifted competitive dance roller skater, qualifying for both regional and national competitions and later teaching skating lessons.

She met her husband, David, on a blind date while in college. They married in 1972, enjoying trips to Hawaii, a cruise to Alaska for their 45th wedding anniversary, and a surprise party this past January to mark their 50th anniversary. He remains at their home in Alma along with their dog, Duo.

She worked for the State of Kansas for 36 years, starting as a Clerk Typist and advancing to a Procurement Officer IV, retiring in 2016. She belonged to the Kansas Association for Public Purchasing Professionals and was a Capital Representative for many years, serving as Membership Chair, Vice President, and President of the organization.

She was an active member of Peace United Church of Christ, serving on committees and the Consistory, including as President, and supporting White Memorial Camp.

Upon retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, including annual traditions of apple picking, pumpkin patch, summer vacations in Branson, Missouri, school programs, athletic events, and holiday baking – peanut brittle was her specialty! Those who were lucky enough to be on her Christmas card list looked forward to her letter with updates on the year’s happenings. She also enjoyed occasional trips to the casino, especially with her daughters, who were more fun than David, and took a trip to Las Vegas for her 40th wedding anniversary.

She leaves behind her husband, David, of Alma, KS and daughters, Julie Gronquist-Blodgett (Clifford) of Kansas City, Missouri, their children Izah, Jacob, Declan, Wally, and Emery, and Jessica Clark (Darius) of Overland Park, KS, their children Aaliyah and Jaeden, along with brother-in-law Paul Gronquist (Susan), and sister by a different mother, Sara Schubert, along with loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ginny, infant son, Anton, and brother-in-law, John.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Peace United Church of Christ in Alma, Kansas. Pastor Julia Gaughan will be officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. She was in her 71st year.&nbsp; Darlene was born to Orlin A. and Doris Irene (Kufahl) Falk on August 15th, 1951 in Westmoreland, KS.&nbsp; She was raised on a farm outside Wheaton, KS.&nbsp; She attended Wheaton schools until&nbsp;the end of 9th grade.&nbsp; In her youth she had many fond memories of her time in 4H.&nbsp;&nbsp;She graduated from Onaga High School in 1969.&nbsp; While in school, she enjoyed cheerleading and was named football homecoming queen her senior year.&nbsp; She married Steve Murray in January 1971 in Manhattan, KS.&nbsp; They have resided in Alma, KS since 1977.&nbsp;

She loved to attend Wabaunsee High School basketball games, there to support her husband, and kids while they played.&nbsp; She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Alma, and was a member of the altar&nbsp;society.&nbsp; Darlene was loved by many.&nbsp; Her proudest accomplishment in life was her family.&nbsp; Whether&nbsp;it was sporting events, rodeo's or any number or life's events, she was their biggest supporter.&nbsp; She especially cherished her relationships with her grandchildren.&nbsp; They were her world.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Darlene worked for the Wabaunsee County Extension Office and for most of her Career for the State of Kansas in SRS and Estate Recovery.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 7th&nbsp;at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church of Alma. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends during a visitation held Thursday, October 6th, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the church hall, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Marie “Mia” Elaina Ines, 54, of St. George, Kansas, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Leiomyosarcoma cancer at her home on October 1, 2022.

Born October 2, 1968, in Fort Madison, Iowa, Marie was the daughter of Ernesto and Beverly (Mehl) Ines.

Mia bequeathed her body for scientific research due to the extreme rareness of her cancer. Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) accounts for less than 1% of all known cancers. Although her courageous battle with cancer has ended, we hope her request to have her body bequeathed for research will help others suffering from this rare form of cancer.

From 2000 to 2018, she worked in Sheridan Elementary School's cafeteria. She enjoyed being around the kids and considered all of the kids as her extended family. Patsy A. Pendergast, age 77, of Blue Rapids, passed away on September 30, 2022, at the Frankfort Care Home in Frankfort, Kansas.

Patsy was born August 17, 1945, at Frankfort, the daughter of Harold E. and Mary L. (Booth) Thomas.&nbsp; She married Jere J. Pendergast in Frankfort on March 8, 1964.&nbsp; He passed away in 2006.

Patsy was a homemaker.&nbsp; She enjoyed crochet, needle point, cross stitch, arts and crafts, reading and listening to music.&nbsp; She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and visiting with her sisters on the phone.

Survivors include her two children: Howard (Teri) Pendergast of Marysville and Tammy Bray of Palmer, two sisters: Connie (Alan) Johnson of Spencer, Iowa, and Beverly Childers of Council Bluffs, Iowa, five grandchildren: Jacqueline (Mitchell), Derek, Dylan, Joshua and Nathaniel, and five great grandchildren.

Preceding Patsy in death are her parents, husband Jere, an infant sister Sandra Thomas, and a brother in law, Terry Childers.

Earnest Anders Hanson left this world on September 28th, 2022. He was born on May 10th, 1930 to Clarence W. and Linnea (Monthan) Hanson in Elkhart Kansas.

Sharon Ann Bafford Meeks was born on May 7, 1941 to Eloise and Dellis Bafford. She was flown away to meet in person the Lover of her soul, friend, Lord and Savior September 27, 2022 on the birthday of her beloved daughter Celestina Johnson. Sharon spent the last 11 years of her life in Abilene becoming well known and loved in the community. Before that she lived in Portland Oregon and Emmett Idaho and spent some of her best years with her wonderful husband David Meeks who adored her. She was most proud of being a mother of four children and having been a nurses’ aid as a young woman. She was a caretaker and lover of people her whole life. Most who encountered her would mention how sweet she was. No one was a stranger, everyone a friend. Sharon’s joyful spirit and appreciation for having fun was contagious. With her God given superpower (LOVE) and by the grace of God, she was able to endure many trials in her life and continued to love unconditionally; no wonder so many people called her mom. Our most special, sweet, and spunky Mom and Nanna will be missed by so many including her four children, Celestina Johnson, Sharon Ross, James Pio and Jolynda Collier. As well as 12 grandchildren (local: Tony Lawson, Sarah Woods, and Cord Lawson) and 20 great grandchildren (local: Dammion Woods, Sierra Woods, Joshua Woods, Isaiah Woods and Gabriel Woods, Danna Lawson and Aiden Lawson). Sharon Ann Bafford Meeks - May 7th, 1941 - September 27th, 2022

Fred was born in Coffeyville, KS on January 7, 1949 to John Henry Lips, Jr and Iris Christina (Olson) Lips Crawford. He passed away September 28, 2022 at Meadowlark Hills Riley House Retirement Community in Riley, KS at the age of 73.

He was raised in Coffeyville where he attended Coffeyville Grade School, Roosevelt Junior High, graduating from Field Kindley Memorial High School in 1967. Fred earned a degree in Computer Programming in 1971 from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS. He was a computer analyst and COBOL programmer from 1971 - 2012 starting his career in Kansas City, KS working for Gambles and moving to Plymouth, MN in 1986 working first for Red Owl Foods then SuperValue Foods. Fred moved to Manhattan, KS in the fall of 2018 to be closer to family.

Fred had many hobbies through the years including woodworking, trains, flags, coin collecting and music. In college he was a sound/light technician for a band called the Rising Sun. His love for music has a legacy with donations to the Music In Plymouth Endowment Fund as well as a Pittsburg State University Music Scholarship in his name. Fred also has a Computer Science Information Systems Scholarship Endowment at Pittsburg State University.

Another passion Fred had was being a long-time volunteer for the Jefferson High School Boys Swim and Dive Team (Bloomington, MN). He was the ‘official’ timer for Lane 6 and never missed a swim meet.

In retirement he was a long-time volunteer for the City of Plymouth for the Information Technology and Adopt-A-Park programs. Fred was recognized in the fall of 2015 as a ‘Volunteer of the Quarter’.

Fred always made it home to the family farm in Bartlett, KS for the wheat harvest in June and Christmas. He was extremely close to his brother Stan Lips who preceded him in death and sister-in-law Marty Lips of Manhattan, KS. Fred is also survived by his three nieces Lori (Mark) Schramm of The Colony, TX, Jan (Marshall) Streeter of Cheyenne, WY and Amy (Mack) Terrapin of Alma, KS, his step-sister, Sharon (Crawford) Brown of Prairie Village, KS, six great-nieces and nephews, Brooke (Phill) Wilson, Layne (Alex) Miles, Nick (Brooke) Terrapin, Alli Terrapin, Claire Streeter and Lauren Streeter and four great-great nieces and nephews, Reid and Blaire Wison and Henry and Kate Miles.

Private family graveside services will be held at the Lake Creek Union Cemetery, Barlett, Kansas.

Fred Lips

Martha A. Miller, age 85, of Manhattan, died September 26, 2022, at Meadowlark Hills – Stolzer House, where she had been a resident for four days. She had suffered from dementia and then neuropathy for the past year. She leaves behind her husband Mike, her two sons Clay (wife Jan) and Kyle, all in the Dallas area, and a granddaughter Emily, attending UNT in Denton, TX.

Martha was born on February 23, 1937, in the family home in California, MO, the daughter of Fowler and Dorothy (Stark) Young. By the time she was in 6th grade the family had moved 8 times always living on a ranch where her father was employed as a ranch manager. This took the family from Missouri, to Oklahoma, to the mountains of Colorado where she became a skier, learned to groom show calves, and helped herd cattle to the free range in the summer. And learned to whistle very loudly through her front teeth – a talent that came in handy in later years when she was called forward to get the attention of a large gathering. The family then returned to Missouri where they lived in Liberty. Martha was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Fowler A. Young.

After graduating from Liberty High School, she attended the University of Missouri where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. After earning a BS in 1959, she headed to Iowa State to attend graduate school. While at Iowa State she met her future husband Mike. Shortly after receiving her MS degree in 1960, they were married in Liberty and then moved to Manhattan where Mike was on the faculty of Kansas State University. Not finished with education she returned to school and received a PhD in Adult and Continuing Education from Kansas State University – at age 57!

Martha was very active in volunteer and social activities. She was a strong supporter of the arts, and was an early supporter of the Beach Museum of Art where she was a long-time member of the Friends of the Beach and past president. Martha was also a long-time member of Town and Country Garden Club, where she worked to beautify City Park, Sunset Zoo, and several city sites with plants and flowers. As an enthusiastic day lily grower her yards were covered with many varieties. People strolling by would frequently stop and ask if it would be alright for them to come in and tour the yard.

Supporting education became very important to her – both for her and for others. She served as PTA president for two different schools. She was a member of the local USD 383 School Board for 12 years, twice serving as president. She served as Region 4 Vice President of the Kansas Association of School Boards and later as President of the state organization. She made many presentations, and led clinics and seminars at state and national conventions. She was on the Board of Directors of the National School Board Association, leading clinics on three occasions at national conventions.

Martha had an educational consulting business. Martha Miller and Associates, that focused on governance education and superintendent selection. She assisted schools in the state in candidate screening and final selection.

Martha loved to travel. Not long after arriving in Manhattan they purchased a camper that took them to almost every state and all across Canada. When the boys were grown and had interfering activities, somehow camping wasn’t quite as much fun without them, so the camper and big station wagon were sold. After retirement, travels took them to many countries, Italy was always a favorite particularly Tuscany and the Cinque Terre areas. Further travels to South America, to the far east China, Thailand, and the Philippines were also favorites. Finally, their trips took them to Oaxaca, Mexico, where they enjoyed spending the winter months for about 14 years.

A Celebration of Martha’s Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 8th, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 700 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan.

By the time she was in 6th grade the family had moved 8 times always living on a ranch where her father was employed as a ranch manager. This took the family from Missouri, to Oklahoma, to the mountains of Colorado where she became a skier, learned to groom show calves, and helped herd cattle to the free range in the summer. And learned to whistle very loudly through her front teeth – a talent that came in handy in later years when she was called forward to get the attention of a large gathering. The family then returned to Missouri where they lived in Liberty. Martha was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Fowler A. Young.After graduating from Liberty High School, she attended the University of Missouri where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. After earning a BS in 1959, she headed to Iowa State to attend graduate school. While at Iowa State she met her future husband Mike. Shortly after receiving her MS degree in 1960, they were married in Liberty and then moved to Manhattan where Mike was on the faculty of Kansas State University. Not finished with education she returned to school and received a PhD in Adult and Continuing Education from Kansas State University – at age 57!Martha was very active in volunteer and social activities. She was a strong supporter of the arts, and was an early supporter of the Beach Museum of Art where she was a long-time member of the Friends of the Beach and past president. Martha was also a long-time member of Town and Country Garden Club, where she worked to beautify City Park, Sunset Zoo, and several city sites with plants and flowers. As an enthusiastic day lily grower her yards were covered with many varieties. People strolling by would frequently stop and ask if it would be alright for them to come in and tour the yard.Supporting education became very important to her – both for her and for others. She served as PTA president for two different schools. She was a member of the local USD 383 School Board for 12 years, twice serving as president. She served as Region 4 Vice President of the Kansas Association of School Boards and later as President of the state organization. She made many presentations, and led clinics and seminars at state and national conventions. She was on the Board of Directors of the National School Board Association, leading clinics on three occasions at national conventions.Martha had an educational consulting business. Martha Miller and Associates, that focused on governance education and superintendent selection. She assisted schools in the state in candidate screening and final selection.Martha loved to travel. Not long after arriving in Manhattan they purchased a camper that took them to almost every state and all across Canada. When the boys were grown and had interfering activities, somehow camping wasn’t quite as much fun without them, so the camper and big station wagon were sold. After retirement, travels took them to many countries, Italy was always a favorite particularly Tuscany and the Cinque Terre areas. Further travels to South America, to the far east China, Thailand, and the Philippines were also favorites. Finally, their trips took them to Oaxaca, Mexico, where they enjoyed spending the winter months for about 14 years.What a great life it was!A Celebration of Martha’s Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Jack Lee Mugrage, Jr., known to some as Lee passed away September 25, 2022 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas, with his wife by his side.&nbsp;

He was born July 8, 1965 in Marietta, Ohio, son of Jack Lee Sr. and Lynn Elizabeth (Guckert) Mugrage. Jack was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy in his teenage years, despite the struggles it brought, he chose to do his best to live life.

Shortly after Jack’s birth, his family moved to Rancho, California where he spent his childhood, graduating from Rancho Alamitos High School in 1984. He enjoyed fishing, working with his hands, and&nbsp;classic cars. Around the late eighties Jack moved to Manhattan, where he worked for nine years at&nbsp;Regulator Time Company repairing clocks mostly for schools until his health prevented continuing.&nbsp; During most of those years, he had many fond memories with his good friend Joe Sexton, attending drag and boat races, fishing, and just hanging out together doing projects around his house.

Jack married Melinda Sue Armstrong on August 12, 1995, at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were married 27 years, living entirely in Manhattan; they enjoyed family gatherings, card games,&nbsp;movies, car racing, fishing, and rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas State Wildcat football. Jack&nbsp;also enjoyed working on computers, playing video games and online games with friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Jack Lee Sr.; father-in-law, Clyde Ancel&nbsp;Armstrong; and sister-in-law, Patrice Ann Rogge.

Virginia Lorane Martin&nbsp;was born August 10, 1919, in Atchison, Kansas from the parents of Walter J. Martin and Bertha M. Jackson. She was raised in Atchison, Kansas along with her sisters Thelma and Edna, attended schools therein and graduated from Atchison High School in 1937. Virginia worked at various jobs in Atchison before moving to Kansas City. After two years in Kansas City, she moved to Fairfield, California where she met and married her Air Force officer husband Edward P. Noordyk who predeceased her in 2004. Together, they enjoyed 57 years of marriage traveling to locations including Hawaii, Philippines, Texas, Virginia and back to California. Virginia was an accomplished seamstress and later earned an Associate’s Arts degree as well as a previous Licensed Practical Nursing credential from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Her nursing credentials led to a position at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville, CA from which she retired. Virginia enjoyed antiquing, golf, bingo, raising roses and quilting (from which she received many awards).

She passed away peacefully on July 9, 2022, just a month short of her 103rd birthday. Having outlived most all her relatives and friends, she leaves her only son, Richard D. Noordyk, two grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Her ashes will be laid to rest next to her father in the McFarland City cemetery on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at 1:30 pm.&nbsp;

She was born July 4, 1978, in Larned, the daughter of Philip Alan and Ann Vratil Schreiber.

A Larned resident until 2001, she moved to Wamego where she was the 
head of the billing department at Manhattan Dermatology. She was a 
member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned. She was always a helper 
and was active in the kids wrestling club. She loved music, reading, 
dogs, fishing, taking pictures, being outdoors, decorating for the 
holidays, watching the Chiefs and all K-State sports. She especially 
loved watching her kids, nieces and nephews in sports and all their 
activites.

On October 23, 1999, she married Cody Joe Turner at Larned; he survives.

Other survivors include: mother, Ann Schreiber, Larned; children, 
Adreana and Dalton Turner, of the home; sister, Emily (Michael) Racette,
 Larned; nieces and nephews, Jocelynn, Logan, Brayson, Camden, Kennedy, 
Savannah; and her beloved dogs, Mocha and Ashford.

She was preceded in death by: her father, Philip Schreiber; 
grandfather, Leon Schreiber, grandparents, Bill and Mildred Hanshew, and
 Leo and Nina Vratil.

Memorial mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2022, at Sacred 
Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding.

Mary Lucille (Susie) Parks, 86, Junction City, KS, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Valley View Senior Life. Mary Lucille (Susie) Price Parks, 86, was born to Irvin and Pauline Price on June 8, 1936, Piedmont, WV. She went to be with the lord and the love of her life, her husband John, on September 28, 2022 from Junction City, KS.

Susie was the daughter of a military family that traveled a lot in her younger years before settling in Ft. Riley, KS, in 1944. She was a graduate of Junction City High School.

On January 17, 1954, Susie married John William Parks in Atchison, KS. Susie was employed with Smith Drug Store in Junction City as a pharmacist assistant and later Junction City High School as a para educator for 17 years. She received the district's Shining Star Award in 1990.

Susie held many interests that included camping, her love of gardening and the beautiful flowers she tended. But her biggest love included watching her granddaughters and later great-grandchildren at their sporting events. Her favorite spot was in her chair on the bleachers at the Chapman Sports Complex with a cup of coffee.

Susie was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ and Women's Fellowship in Junction City, KS.

Survivors include Daughter Susanne (Steve) Altwegg of Chapman, KS; granddaughters, Amanda (Tyler) Hands of Garden City, KS, Lindsey (Caleb) Snider of Chapman, KS, Lacey (Kasey) Fielder of Junction City, KS; great-grandchildren, Macy, Gentry, Lainey Hands, Cade, Addy, William Snider, Grason, Lilly, Landyn Fielder.

Kathleen was born February 12th, 1940, in Junction City, KS. She was the first- born daughter and second child of Glenn Eugene and Myrtle Vinita (Koepcke) Kirkpatrick. She&nbsp;graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1958. She had a fierce passion for horses and won many awards on the back of her beloved Dynamite. When she met her husband, Charles Ashby (senior) and moved to Virginia, she loaded Dynamite up into the bed of a pickup and took him with her.

She did many jobs throughout her life, but her number one job was taking care of her family and anyone else who needed it. When life changed for her and she choose to divorce; she loaded her children and animals up and headed back to Kansas, where she met her 2d husband. Several years later they chose to move to Montana and begin a new adventure. They were married for 38 years till he chose a different path.&nbsp;That is when she moved to Oklahoma to live with her son, Charles Edward Ashby Jr. and his family. She brought many laughs and adventures to their home. She was loved and cared for the remainder of her time with us on earth.

She is survived by her older brother, Robert Wayne Kirkpatrick of TX; her baby sister Barbara Gfeller of Junction City, KS; her daughter Charlotte (Charry) Ashby; her sons Charles Edward Ashby Jr. and Eugene (Gene) Ashby. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Ronald J. Gfeller, her daughters-in-law Kimberly Ashby and Ann Wickersham; her nieces and nephews as well as their spouses Renee, Curtis, Robbie, Tracy, Sherri, Angela, and Tim; her grandchildren Raymond and his wife Jessica, Melissa, Kelsi and her husband Cesar, Mackenzie, Lillian and Easton,; and her great grandchildren Alycia, Gracie, Dominic and a new baby girl ready to be born soon.

John Lee Hynes Sr. was born June 12, 1944 in Rock Island, Illinois to Richard and Genevieve (Surr) Hynes. On August 09, 1962 John married Judith Ann Cottrell in Davenport, Iowa. John spent his life as a truck driver and industrial worker with over fourty years of employment with the Western Structural Company. John enjoyed fishing, gardening and spent time coaching little league baseball with his wife Judy. John was a great family man and enjoyed hosting family gathering at his house. John spent many years as a member of the Lions Club. In 2019 John moved to Junction City, Kansas with his son and daughter-in-law Joel and Mary Hynes. John is survived by his daughter, Jody (Rodney) Beaston of Moline, Illinois. His two brothers, Richard (Wanda) Hynes of Moline, Illinois and Robert Hynes Indianapolis, Indiana. A sister in-law Sharon Hynes of Newport Richie, Florida and one brother in- law Douglas Stufflebean of East Moline, Illinois. his four grandchildren Daniel Beaston, Tyler (Danielle) Hynes, Aislinn Ague, Kalee Beaston. John had two great- grandsons, John Hynes and Noah Hynes and his many nieces and nephews. John was preceeded in death by his wife of 53 years, Judy Hynes; two sons, John Hynes Jr, Joel Hynes; parents, Richard and Genevieve; two sisters, Karen and Mary; and brother David.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Joel Collier Hynes was born March 18, 1968 in Moline, Illinois to John and Judy Hynes. On September 6, 2001 Joel married Mary Lee Krack in Rock Island, Illinois. Joel spent his life as a professional cook working at many restaurants throughout his life. Joel was a huge dog lover who had a fondness for pit bulls. In his free time Joel was an avid pool player and was involved in several league's. Joel's main focus was his family and was often heard bragging about them to whoever would listen. Joel is survived by his son, Tyler (Danielle) Hynes of Junction City, Kansas; daughter, Aislinn Ague of Silvis, Illinois; sister, Jody(Rodney) Beaston of Moline, Illinois; two grandsons, John Hynes, and Noah Hynes; two uncles, Richard (Wanda) Hynes of Moline, Illinois and Robert Hynes Indianapolis, Indiana; nephew, Daniel Beaston; niece, Kalee Beaston; and multiple cousins. Joel was preceeded in death by his wife of 21 years, Mary Hynes; father, John Hynes Sr; mother, Judy Hynes; and brother John Hynes Jr.

Anne S. Nielsen, 71, died unexpectedly in an automobile accident on Wednesday afternoon, September 21, near Marysville, KS. Anne was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born December 24, 1950, to Ed and Marie Slattery of Weeping Water, Nebraska. She graduated Weeping Water High School, and later Kearney State College. In May, 1973, Anne married Monty E. Nielsen of Kearney, Nebraska. In addition to her KSC baccalaureate degree, Anne earned both a Master’s and Ph.D, in Special Education, from the University of North Dakota. Her career as a teacher of the blind and visually impaired extended 40 plus years in North Dakota, Washington State, Wisconsin, and Kansas. Anne was an excellent teacher and advocate. Her greatest passion was for infants and toddlers—she frequently was quoted as saying “don’t forget the babies” when tasks were being assigned and resources allocated. In all things that she did, Anne was passionate about identifying and meeting the needs of others. She was selfless, gracious, and kind.

In addition to her work with the Kansas State School for the Blind, Anne worked in partnership with the Kansas Optometric Association (KOA) to broaden, enhance, and strengthen statewide vision services at all levels. Anne was known regionally and nationally for her successes. She traveled internationally to Peru and Nigeria to teach and assist in vision trainings for children, as well as conducting vision screenings in Manhattan on behalf of the Manhattan Lions Club. In retirement, she continued to see and assist babies, and their parents. Anne was active in the Manhattan Lions Club and a volunteer at Ascension Via Christi, most recently working in out-patient services. Anne was honored by the College of Education at the University of Nebraska, Kearney with their Distinguished Educator of the Year Award in 2014. Anne was also a fantastic sister, aunt, and friend—she was a devoted Catholic, and will be cherished and missed by all who knew her.

Anne is survived by her husband Monty of Manhattan; son Monty Philip of Brooklyn, NY, and granddaughter, Alexandria, 11, and grandson, Anthony, 6, both of New York; daughter Noreen of Washington, D.C.; and sisters Suzanne Stander and Patricia Dorwart, plus brothers James Slattery and Joseph Slattery, all of Nebraska, in addition to several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other extended family. Anne was preceded in death by her eldest sister, Noreen Slattery, and her parents, Ed and Marie Slattery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, September 29 at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, with a vigil to follow at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 30 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2900 Kimball Avenue, Manhattan. Inurnment will be in the St. Thomas More Columbarium.

Sue A. Story, 83, of Junction City, passed away on September 20, 2022 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare. Cremation has taken place. She was an avid bingo player at the Eagles Lodge and American Legion here in Junction City. She worked for the Junction City School District for many years until she retired in 1998 and moved to Branson, MO with her husband. She returned back to Junction City in 2007 after her husband passed away. Sue was married on Valentine's Day 1959 to Donald Story. She is survived by her sons, Bob Story (Danette) of Junction City and Don Story (Patricia) of Schertz, Texas; five grandchildren, Jennifer Felten (Kenny), Audrey Story, Sean Story, Shayla Story, and Travis Redden (Kyla); and five great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Junction City, KS, at a later date. Family will conduct a private graveside service following inurnment. She was born on October 5, 1941, New York City, New York to Samuel Jacobs and Hazel (Davin) Jacobs. Sharon is survived by her daughter Kim DeLaRosa; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
