Police: Kansas man injured in accidental shooting

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a reported accidental shooting involving a 24-year-old man.

Just before 4:30a.m. November 1, police responded to a walk-in shooting call at Wesley Medical Center in  Wichita, Officer Paul Cruz reported Tuesday night.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the 24-year-old, who had a gunshot wound to his right leg. The 24-year-old reported that he was at a gathering in the 1200 block of South Water. During the gathering, he allowed a male acquaintance to look at a firearm.

As the acquaintance was handling the gun, he accidentally discharged it, striking the 24-year-old. The acquaintance then transported the 24-year-old to the hospital.

Police did not release the victim's name. However, Wichita boxer, IBA Flyweight World Title holder and 2016 Olympic Bronze medalist Nico Hernandez used social media to report he had been shot.
