KANSAS CITY—Authorities are investigating the cause of an apartment fire in Kansas City. Just before 2:30a.m. Wednesday, Kansas City Fire companies were dispatched to a reported apartment fire in the 3400 block of Holmes Road, according to Battalion Chief Riley Nolan.
The first arriving company reported nothing showing from the exterior of a 3-story apartment building and entered to investigate. Smoke was encountered on the 3rd floor and crews forced entry into a unit where they found the source and extinguished a small fire on the kitchen stovetop.
An occupant of the unit was located and brought out by firefighters to a waiting ambulance. They were then transported to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation. A second ambulance was ordered to the scene to evaluate an additional occupant of the building, but that person was not transported. Authorities released no additional details.
