
WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita police have arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of 38-year-old Montel Parks of Wichita.
The suspect, identified in county booking records as 32-year-old Tayante O. Dagans was taken into custody Wednesday morning at the QuikTrip located at 6011 W. Central after patrol officers recognized the suspect’s vehicle from an internal informational bulletin distributed by investigators identifying both the suspect and vehicle.

The investigation began just after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when officers responded to a reported shooting at Emery Gardens apartments, 4244 S. Hydraulic in Wichita, according to a media release.
When officers arrived, they located Parks seated in the driver’s seat of a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. Officers immediately began providing lifesaving measures until Sedgwick County EMS arrived.
EMS transported Parks to an area hospital, where he underwent surgery. He died Wednesday morning from his injuries.
The arrest resulted from coordinated efforts between patrol officers, investigators, community members and technology. Investigators used Flock camera technology, which captured the suspect vehicle before the shooting.
Dagans was transported to Investigations and later booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on requested charges of 1st Degree Murder, Discharge Occupied Vehicle, and Felon in possession of Firearm.
