
OSAGE COUNTY —Authorities investigating Friday's fatal accident at a rock quarry have identified the victim as Frank J. Rockers Jr., 68, of Emporia, according to Osage County Sheriff Laurie Dunn.
Just before 2:30p.m. the Osage County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting an accident at a Harshman Construction rock quarry, 32306 S. California Road, near Melvern, according to Sheriff Laurie Dunn.
First responders discovered that Rockers had been taking samples at the base of a large chat pile when the pile gave way, burying him.
The accident was witnessed by two workers, who immediately began to recover the victim.
Fire units had also begun rescue efforts upon their arrival. The victim was eventually removed and was pronounced deceased.
