
SHAWNEE COUNTY– Law enforcement authorities are investigating a woman who was arrested after barricaded herself inside a home for nearly three hours.
Just after noon Thursday, police responded to the 1200 block of SE Monroe Street in Topeka on a report of an aggravated burglary and an attempted kidnapping that had just occurred, according to Lt. Ron Ekis.
The suspect reportedly entered a home and took an item. After leaving the home, the suspect reportedly attempted to kidnap a child. The child’s mother was able to protect the child from the suspect, according to Ekis. No injuries were reported in either incident.
Shortly after officers responded to the area, the suspect, later identified as Shelby Parker, 40, of Topeka barricaded herself inside a home in the 1100 block of SE Madison Street.
The Topeka Response Team and Crisis Negotiators responded to the scene to negotiate with Parker. They took her into custody just after 4 p.m.
She was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of, Attempted Kidnapping, Aggravated Burglary, Child Endangerment, Battery, Interference and Theft.
