Update: Kan. man who died in crash was commission candidate

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — The Republican candidate running against a Neosho County commissioner was killed after his motorcycle was hit by a car.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says Christopher D. Ellis, 31, died from injuries sustained when 79-year-old Barbara A. Clingan of Parsons driving a Buick Regal crossed into the lane he was riding and struck him Sunday afternoon about three miles north of Erie.

Ellis was driving a 2009 Harley Davidson north on highway U.S. 59 and the Buick was southbound. 

Ellis was running against incumbent David Orr for the Neosho County Commission seat. Clinghan  was hospitalized with possible minor injuries.

NEOSHO COUNTY —One person died in an accident just before 2p.m. Sunday in Neosho County.

The Kansas Highway  Patrol reported a 2013 Buick Regal driven by Barbara A. Clingan, 79, Parsons, was southbound on U.S. 59 three miles north of Erie.

The Buick crossed over into the northbound lane. The passenger side of the car struck a northbound 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Christopher D. Ellis, 31, Erie.

EMS transported Ellis to Miami County Medical Center where he died.  EMS transported Clingan to Latette Health. Ellis was not wearing a helmet, according to the KHP.
