RILEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are no longer seeking the public’s help in identifying the parties involved in a fatal traffic accident in Leonardville on June 19, reported a hit and run, according to officer Josh Kyle.
Just after 4a.m. on June 19, the Riley County Police Department Emergency Dispatch Center received a call from a person stating there was man who was walking, seemed disoriented, and was asking for a ride in the 12900 block of Barton Road.
While officers were traveling to the scene, dispatch received a second call reporting a man had been found dead in the roadway. Investigation revealed the pedestrian, Christopher Day, 38, of Leonardville, died of head trauma associated with being hit by a vehicle.
The Kansas Highway Patrol worked the traffic accident while the RCPD simultaneously conducted a criminal investigation.
No criminal charges are anticipated at this time.
