ATV driver dies after drag race crash

MERCER COUNTY, Mo.—One person died in an accident just after 6:30p.m. Saturday during an ATV drag race at Mercer Homecoming Park northeast of Kansas City.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a Yamaha Banshee driven by Billy G. Nichols, 64, De Kalb, was unable to stop at the end of the race struck a utility pole.

Mercer County EMS transported Nichols to Wright Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a helmet, according to the MSHP.   The track is located approximately two hours northeast of Kansas City.
