
RENO COUNTY, Kan. — Two people are dead and three others, including an infant, were injured following a head-on collision late Monday morning on K-14/96 Highway north of 82nd Avenue in northern Reno County.
According to the Reno County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 10:14 a.m. Monday when a northbound silver Subaru SUV crossed the center line in the 8200 block of North K-14/96 and veered into the southbound lane. A southbound Ford F-150 attempted to avoid the crash by pulling onto the right shoulder, but the Subaru also moved onto the same shoulder, and the two vehicles collided head-on.
The Subaru carried four occupants. Two of them were pronounced dead at the scene, while an infant and another passenger were taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and later transferred to a Wichita hospital. The driver of the Ford pickup, the sole occupant, was transported by private vehicle to Lyons Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of family members.
First responders arriving on the scene found citizens already performing lifesaving efforts, which were continued by emergency crews. Multiple agencies assisted at the crash site, including Reno County Fire District 3, Reno County EMS, the Hutchinson Fire Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, Rice County EMS, Reno County Fire/Emergency Management, and the Kansas Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation.
