Police ID Kan. man who died in New Year's Eve shooting

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal New Year's Eve shooting and have identified the victim as 25-year-old Jesus Noel Soto-Villareal of Topeka. 

Just after 5:30p.m. Thursday, police were in the area of SE 6th and Leland in Topeka as gunshots were heard, according to Lt. Jerry Monasmith.

Officers later were notified of an adult male victim suffering from life-threatening injuries who arrived at a local hospital. The victim was later pronounced deceased by medical care personnel.

Officers and Detectives are continuing the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police have not reported an arrest.

The identity of the deceased individual is being withheld pending proper next of kin notification, according to Monasmith.
