
DOUGLAS COUNTY— Detectives with the Lawrence Kansas Police Department have a suspect in custody after a weekend bar brawl turned deadly, according to a media rerlease from police.
Keisonn Smith Jr., 25, Topeka, is in the Douglas County Correctional Facility accused of stabbing 20-year-old McMillin Tutu several times in the chest and abdomen.
Investigators have interviewed several witnesses. Police are asking anyone who recognizes Smith from that night or who may have relevant video to please call dispatch at 785.843.0250. Anonymous tips can also be given to Crime Stoppers of Lawrence and Douglas County at 785.843.TIPS (8477).
The killing happened around 2:40am Sunday near the breezeway between 7th and 8th on Massachusetts Street. Responding officers found Tutu lying on the sidewalk. He was transported to an area hospital and pronounced deceased.
LKPD investigators worked throughout early morning hours to identify a suspect. Once evidence pointed to Smith as the suspect, they contacted the Topeka Police Department, who made the arrest. Lawrence Police detectives traveled to Topeka to interview Smith and later booked him into the Douglas County Correctional Facility.
