BARTON COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident Tuesday evening after a crash into the fire department building in Ellinwood.
According to police, a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500 driven by Dustin Lee Jahay, 35, Ellinwood, was westbound in the 100 block of West Santa Fe in Ellinwood, left the roadway, struck the east wall of the Fire Department and caught fire. Jahay was trapped in the pickup.
First responders were able to extinguish the fire and extricated Jahay from the vehicle. An air ambulance transported him to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
The Fire Department's south building and numerous vehicles within the fire department were damaged.
Authorities have not released a dollar estimate on damage.
