Uncle, nephew accused in Kansas homicide

MONTGOMERY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a weekend homicide and have a man and his nephew custody.

Just before 7p.m. Saturday, police responded to a shooting in the 1400 block of West 10th Street, according to a media release.

First responders located gunshot victim, Ramon Burnett, 39, of Coffeyville.  EMS transported Burnett to a local hospital and he was later pronounced deceased.

Police took two suspects into custody, William R. McGinnis, 50, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma and his nephew Michael L. McGinnis, 28, of Liberty, Kansas.

They both have a recommended charge of Murder in the 2nd degree in addition to drug and aggravated endangering a child allegations, according to online jail records.

Michael has ten previous convictions that include burglary, theft, criminal threat, trespass on railroad property, interference with law enforcement to destroy evidence and criminal damage to property, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
