RENO COUNTY—A Salina man was injured in an industrial accident Tuesday in Reno County.
Just before 2p.m. deputies along with fire and EMS were dispatched to the bridge at 69th Avenue and Nickerson Road for a report of an injury that occurred at the construction site, according to a media release from the Reno County Sheriff's Department.
Upon arrival Deputies made contact with Gonzalo Chavez, 42, Salina. He lying on his back, in the sand near the river. Deputies were told that a crane loaded with 4,000 pounds of sheet pile was approximately 6 feet off the ground.
The crane operator accidentally took his foot off the crane brake which caused the load to fall on top of Chavez.
The crane operator then lifted the sheet pile off of Chavez while other employees rendered aid. EMS and fire arrived and treated Chavez. EMS transported him to Hutchinson Airport and he was flown to an area hospital for additional treatment.
