SEDGWICK COUNTY — A Kansas felon arrested in connection with a fatal shooting made his first court appearance Friday.

Christian Wohlford was charged with 1st degree murder, aggravated robbery, attempted 1st degree murder, and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney. 

Just before 3:30a.m. Sept. 22, police responded to a police responded to a check shots call in the 500 block of North Edwards in Wichita, according to according to police Lt. Christian Cory.

Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive victim identified as 42-year-old Jeremy Hutchins in a white Nissan Xterra who had been shot in his upper torso.

Fire and EMS arrived on scene and attempted life-saving measures, but Hutchins died on the scene, according to Cory. Police also contacted a female acquaintance at the scene of the shooting.

Investigators learned that Hutchins met Wholford in the 2700 Block of West Newell Street to make a property transaction. There was a disturbance between the two while in the SUV and Wholford shot Hutchins, according to Cory. Wholford also shop at the female acquaintance but she was not injured.

Later that morning, police arrested Wohlford during a traffic stop at South Washington Avenue and East Luther Street. Police have not released details on what property was involved in the transaction.
