Fire Marshal: Kan. house fire caused $41K damage; No smoke detectors

TOPEKA —A fire blamed on power cords did considerable damage to a home on Saturday in Topeka.

Just after noon Saturday, fire crews responded to the fire in a home at 1216 NW Harrison, according to  Fire Marshal Todd Harrison. When the arrived, crews found smoke coming from the single-story wood home.  All occupants of the residence were able to escape prior to fire department’s arrival.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

An investigator from the State Fire Marshal’s Investigation  unit determined the origin and cause of the fire associated with power cords.

The estimated dollar loss - $41,610.00; of which $31,610.00 is associated with structural loss and $10,000.00 is associated with content loss. Working smoke detectors were not located within the structure of fire origin.
