There were no changes in the outcome of the Aug. 4 primary election in Geary County, but Keith Ascher, County Commission Chair, noted that some mail in ballots could not be counted for the primary because they had not arrived at the county clerk's office.

The commission canvassed the votes from the election on Thursday. Ascher stated he thought that there was a problem with the mail service. "There are some people that said they sent them in advance. According to the clerk we still have not received them. " Ascher said it's not a problem for the clerk but is more of an issue for the U.S. mail.

There have been reports of that type of problem at some locations across the nation.

The commission did review 105 provisional ballots during the canvass and counted 36 of them.

Since no election outcomes changed Brad Scholz was the winner of  the Republican Party primary for the first district seat on the Geary County Commission. He will advance to meet Independent candidate Trish Giordano in the November election.
