$75,000 damage after fire at Kansas home

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Three people escaped a fire at their Kansas home on Monday evening.

Just before 5:30p.m.  Monday, crews responded to a house fire at 1332 SW Boswell Avenue in Topeka, according to Fire Marshal Alan Stahl.

 As they arrived, crews found smoke and flames coming from the two-story house. An adult and two child escaped prior to the fire departments arrival.

Preliminary investigation indicates the fire cause to be accidental, associated with the malfunction of an electrical device. The estimated dollar loss – $75,000.00; of which $50,000.00 is associated with structural loss and $25,000.00 is associated with contents loss.

The occupants were displaced as a result of the fire damage. Working smoke detectors were not located within the home, according to Stahl.
