BUTLER COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities including the FBI, KBI and Augusta Department of Public Safety investigating the September 2023 murder of 93-year-old Joanne Johnson in her home in Augusta have arrested two juveniles, according to a media release from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
On Thursday afternoon two 14-year-old girls from Augusta were arrested for first-degree murder connected to Johnson’s death.
Johnson was discovered deceased in her residence on September 3, 2023.The teens are being held at separate juvenile detention centers. Formal charges are pending.
In May, Governor Laura Kelly has issued an executive order offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who provides information that led to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for Johnson’s murder.
Under the same conditions, the family of Joanne Johnson has offered to match the reward for information, increasing the total reward to $10,000.
