SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal pedestrian accident have identified the victim as 44-year-old Melissa Mertes of Wichita, according to Sheriff's Lt. Benjamin Blick.
Just before 9:30p.m. Monday, a westbound 2011 Chevy Impala driven by an 18-year-old female from Rose Hill struck Mertes in the 12000 block of east 31st Street South in Wichita.
She was walking a dog, westbound on the north edge of the roadway.
Mertes and the dog she was walking were pronounced dead at the scene, according to Blick. The teen driver was not injured.
