
SHAWNEE COUNTY —There were no injuries from a fire at home Thursday in Topeka.
Just after 6:30p.m. Thursday crews responded to a fire at 1325 SW Washburn Avenue, according to Fire Marshal Todd Harrison.
Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke coming from the two story residence. Firefighters began an offensive fire attack and were able to keep it contained to the structure.
A Preliminary investigation indicates the fire cause to be accidental, associated with the malfunction of an electrical device. The estimated dollar loss – $7,500.00; of which $5,000.00 is associated with structural loss and $2,500.00 associated with contents loss, according to Harrison.
The adults in the home were able to escape and are displaced due to the fire. Working smoke detectors were not located within the home, according to Harrison.
