SEDGWICK COUNTY— Wichita Police safely cleared the outside of U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall’s downtown Wichita office Wednesday afternoon after suspicious boxes were reported near the building.
At approximately 12:10 p.m., officers responded to Sen. Marshall’s office in the 100 block of S. Market after the calling party reported finding several suspicious boxes outside the building, according to Wichita Police spokesman Kris Gupilan.
The calling party told officers there had been a protest outside the office earlier in the day. Around noon, the calling party observed notes placed on the office door and five cardboard boxes with a note addressed to Sen. Marshall.
Out of caution, officers cleared the area outside the building and requested the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit.
The boxes were examined and determined to contain protest fliers. They posed no threat to the public. The items were removed from the scene.
