Sheriff: Kan. man caught speeding to meth delivery

BARTON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man on drug distribution charges following a traffic stop.

Just after 6:30p.m. Monday, sheriff’s deputies stopped a green 1997 Chevrolet Suburban on Santa Fe Street in Ellinwood for speeding, according to Sheriff Brian Belendir.

During the course the traffic stop the Barton County Sheriff’s office K9 was called to the scene. The canine indicated the presence of controlled substances. Further investigation revealed approximately 3/10 of a pound of suspected methamphetamine. Deputies also located Marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Wayne H Hunter Jr., 57 of Geneseo, Kansas. During the arrest, deputies found a 9 mm handgun  on his person. Further investigation indicates the methamphetamine was to be delivered in Barton County.

Hunter is being held on a requested charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, criminal use of firearms and possession of drug paraphernalia. He’s being held in lieu of a $300,000 bond.
