Sheriff: Kansas man dies while swimming on 4th of July

DOUGLAS COUNTY —A Kansas man drown while swimming Monday at a lake in Douglas County.

Just after 6:30a.m., a boater notified deputies that they found a man unresponsive in the water at Lone Star Lake, according to a media release from the Douglas County Sheriff's office.

Investigators learned that an 81-year-old Lawrence man was part of a group that regularly swims at the lake. He had broken off from the group to return to shore and was found a short time later was located unresponsive in the water.
