
SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a drug deal shooting and have made an arrest.
Just before 11a.m. Monday, police responded to a shooting that had just occurred in the 2500 Block of SE Minnesota in Topeka, according to Lt. Jerry Monasmith.
As officers arrived in the area,they located an adult victim who appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound. Responding officers also discovered a person matching the suspect description provided by the victim. They took 30-year-old Irving Arambula – Valenzuela of Topeka into custody without incident and transported him to the Law Enforcement Center.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where his injuries were severe but non-life-threatening, according to Monasmith.
During the investigation, officers found cocaine at the location where the shooting took place.
Arambula – Valenzuela is being held in the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Aggravated Battery, Possession of Cocaine with the intent of distribution, Possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent of distribution and Use of communication facility in commission of a felony drug violation.
