DOUGLAS COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting that left a child dead.
Just before 11a.m. Friday, police were dispatched to the 1500 Block of Wedgewood Drive in reference to a shooting, according to police spokesperson Patrick Compton.
Officers arrived on scene and located a 2-year-old child who was critically injured from an apparent gunshot wound. The child was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital by Lawrence Douglas County Fire and Medical. The child was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Officers and detectives are currently speaking with the parties involved in the incident and preliminary information suggests the shooting was accidental. Authorities released no additional details including names of those involved.
