2 Kansas City suspects took turns shooting 23-year-old victim

KANSAS CITY—A  Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of John L. Greer on Aug. 19, 2022, in the 3500 block of Wayne Avenue, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

Nathaniel Carter, 21, faces Murder in the 2nd Degree, or in the alternative, Assault in the 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.

According to court records, Kansas City police responded on Aug. 19, 2022, to a home in the 3500 block of Wayne Avenue in Kansas City on a reported shooting.

Officers found the victim, John L. Greer, deceased on the floor of the house.

According to the prosecutor's office Carter was with a friend when the friend began to fight with Greer.  Carter fired a shot into the Greer's back. As the victim ran away, the friend 21-year-old Davon Canady grabbed the gun from  Carter and fired a second shot at the victim, hitting him a second time in the back. Carter and Canady then left the residence.

 Canady was charged in this homicide earlier in September.
