JEFFERSON COUNTY —Two people died in an accident just after 8:30p.m. Sunday in Jefferson County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2025 Hyundai Kona SUV driven by Shelby D. Copp, 33, Oskaloosa, was southbound on K-237 Highway at U.S. 24.
The driver failed to stop at the stop sign and struck a westbound 2008 Chevy Suburban driven by Douglas K. Gould, 68, Topeka, in the passenger side. The Suburban was pulling a boat trailer. The boat detached and continued westbound on U.S. 24 and struck the front of a 2008 Chevy Silverado driven by Deegan K. Fraizer, 16, Topeka.
Copp and a passenger in the Surburban identified as Connie J. Gould, 66, Topeka were pronounced dead at the scene and were transported to Barnett Family Funeral Home.
EMS transported Douglas Gould and two passengers in the Hyundai identified as a 6-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl to Stormont Vail Health in Topeka. Fraizer and a passenger in the pickup were not injured. The drivers and adult passengers were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP. The KHP did not have information on whether the children were properly restrained.
