Update: Newton High School locked down due to report of a gun

HARVEY COUNTY —The doors at Newton High School were locked down Tuesday after 911 received a report of a possible person with a gun at the school, according to Newton Police.

Students reported seeing two other students carrying an orange and white object that resembled a gun out of the automotive area to a vehicle in the parking lot. The two students then left in the vehicle.

Many students evacuated the school, but there is no active disturbance or danger. No one with a weapon ever entered the school.

The two students have been identified, and Police will continue to investigate.

 Counselors are in place for any students feeling stress from the situation. NHS will continue to be monitored by law enforcement.

HARVEY COUNTY— Law enforcement are on the scene at Newton High School, 900 West 12th Street, after calls came in about a suspicious person on the grounds. 

According to Harvey County 911, the first call came in around 9:50a.m. 

No other details are available as officers are still actively working the situation. The school is currently in lockdown as a precaution.
