SHAWNEE COUNTY— Law enforcement authorities are investigating alleged child abuse involving an 18-month-old child and have a suspect in custody.

The incident occurred Monday at a residence in the 5700 Block of North Topeka Boulevard in Topeka, according to Shawnee County Sheriff's Sgt. Todd Stallbaumer.

The child’s injuries included a skull fracture, rib fracture, internal lacerations and internal bleeding.

Detectives arrested Robert H. Mann III, 47, of Topeka. He was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Endangering a Child and Child Abuse.

The child was treated at a local hospital and then transferred to Children's Mercy, according to Deputy Abigail Christian. The child is now safe and in the custody of the Kansas Department of Children and Families.  Authorities did not report the relationship between Mann and the child.
