Update: Crews fighting large barn fire in Newton

HARVEY COUNTY—A fire in Harvey County destroyed a barn and contents including a golf cart and skid steer.

Just before 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Newton Fire/EMS was dispatched to a barn fire on S Kansas Rd. Crews arrived to find the structure fully involved with fire.

After the bulk of the fire was extinguished, several hours were spent overhauling the structure, including the use of heavy equipment. No occupants, pets, or firefighters were injured in this incident. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. Whitewater, Sedgwick, Walton and Valley Center, crews assisted.

HARVEY COUNTY —Crews are working on a house fire in the 5800 block of South Kansas Avenue in Newton, according to a social media report from Newton Fire and EMS.

Authorities closed northbound lanes of Kansas Avenue. Officials asked the public to avoid southbound lanes due to traffic concerns and a water tender operation with trucks coming and going.

Authorities have not reported injuries or additional details.
