Cause of Labor Day house fire in Kansas City under investigation

KANSAS CITY —Officials are investigating the cause of a Labor Day house fire in Kansas City.

Just after 1p.m., crews responded to a fire at a home in the 500 block of Lawndale, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

First arriving crews reported heavy fire and smoke from a single-story residence. An offensive interior attack was initiated to included searches of the home.

The searches came back all clear. The fire was extremely advanced and was impeding on the house to the south. Crews had to stretch additional lines to extinguish and protect that home. 

The fire spread through the attic and broke through the roof leading to a temporary evacuation and defensive operation. Crews were able to get the fire under control after approximately 30 minutes. There were no injuries reported.
