1 in custody after Kan. Halloween shooting kills 1 teen, injures 6

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — One person was killed and six others were wounded after gunfire erupted at a crowded Halloween party in Kansas City, Kansas.

The shooting happened Monday night at a large party at a Kansas City, Kansas home. Police said between 70 and 100 people were at the party.

Police were called around 9 p.m. and found a 17-year-old dead and six others injured. One person was treated and released and the other five were listed in stable condition Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The victims ranged in age from 15 to 18, with most being 15 and 16 years old.

Police said in a news release that one person of interest had been taken into custody on Tuesday. Investigators were looking for four to six suspects. No other information on the suspects was released.

The party was intended for younger teens and was supposed to be invitation only but it was promoted on social media, police said.

The suspects, who were wearing costumes and masks, were asked to leave because they were older. They left but then returned and opened fire on the house, injuring people inside and outside, police said.

The parent/homeowner was home at the time. Similar parties had been held at the house previously without any issues, according to the statement.

Police were called around 9 p.m. and found the deceased person and several others with gunshot wounds. No information about the victims has been released.

Officer Marshee London said people suspected in the shootings entered the home and were asked to leave. Afterward, bullets were fired from the outside into the house.

No arrests have been made.

KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting at a large Halloween Party that left one person dead.

Just after 9p.m. officers were dispatched to a shots fired call at at a home in the 1600 block of S 50th Street, according to Kansas City, Kansas police.

When officers arrived, they discovered a deceased person on scene from an apparent gunshot and as many as 8 others injured. EMS transported the victims to area hospitals.

This incident is under investigation by the KCKPD Major Case Unit.
