
FINNEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man on multiple charges after a chase with a reported stolen car.
Just after 3:30a.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to the 700 block of Conkling Avenue in Garden City for report a Ford Focus had been stolen, according to a media release.
Just before noon officers located the Ford Focus in the 400 block of St. John Street and attempted a traffic stop.
The driver, identified as 28-year-old Carmelo Rivero Jr. Garden City, KS, refused to stop for officers, and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit traveled southbound before stopping along the 200 block of N. 10th Street, when Rivero Jr. exited the vehicle and fled.
Following a brief foot pursuit, Rivero Jr. was taken into custody without incident. After further investigation, a search of the vehicle was conducted. Officers located suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, and several bank cards.
Rivero Jr. is being held in the Finney County Jail on requested charges of Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Stimulant, Possession of Marijuana, Flee and Elude While Operating a Stolen Vehicle, Interference LEO and Driving While Suspended.
