Police ID victims in deadly shooting near Kan. fast-food restaurant

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Police investigating a shooting that left two dead in Topeka have identified the victim as 76-year-old as Melvin Gerstenkorn and the deceased suspect is identified as  51-year-old Dallas Dehart both are from Topeka.

Just before 8:30p.m. Nov. 23,  police responded to report of a shooting at McDonalds restaurant in the 1200 block of SW Gage Boulevard in Topeka, according to Topeka Police LT Jayme Green.

At the scene, first responders located Gerstenkorn and Dehart  who were deceased. EMS transported a third victim identified as a 22-year-old man to a hospital with life-threatening injuries

On Nov. 26, police reported they were investigating this incident as a murder-suicide. Gerstenkorn died from apparent gunshot wound. The 22-year-old  had a life-threatening gunshot injury and remains hospitalized, according to a statement from police on Tuesday.

Dehart died from what appears to have been a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
