Sheriff's K9 helps catch Kansas drug suspect

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man on  multiple charges following a traffic stop.

Just before 9 p.m. Thursday, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 1998 Ford F150 pickup truck near NW Taylor Street and NW Waddell Street in Topeka, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

During the traffic stop, a K9 unit was deployed. The driver, Jerome N. Townsend, 50, of Topeka, was taken into custody and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and a traffic violation
