SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal 2-vehicle crash just after noon Monday in Shawnee County have made an arrest.
The crash occurred near NW St. John Street and NW Tyler Street in Topeka, according to Topeka police department spokesperson Rosie Nichols.
Emergency crews transported 33-year-old Alycia A. Noriega of Topeka to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. She died late Monday afternoon, according to police.
As a result of the investigation, police arrested 38-year-old Michael S. Lester, 38, of Topeka on requested charges of Murder in the 1st degree; In the commission of a felony, Flee or attempt to elude LEO by engaging in reckless driving, Speeding;maximum Limits, Reckless Driving; Unknown Conviction, Driving On Left Side of Roadway, Driving On Left In No-Passing Zone, Fail To Stop At Stop Sign, Driving While License Suspended; Misd and Fail To Stop At Accident;known To Result In Death
Police are investigating this incident as a homicide. This is the 33rd homicide in Topeka in 2023, according to police.
