The Great Bend Police Department was made aware that several vehicle owners have taken their car into a mechanic shop only to have the mechanic discover that their wheel lug nuts had been loosened.
Police Chief Steve Haulmark said there is a social media challenge on TikTok encouraging people to loosen or steal lug nuts just to see what happens when the vehicle owner drives away.
"We received a report from a mechanic shop that several owners came to him with a random sound on their vehicle," said Haulmark. "Apparently between four and five came to his shop. "We got a call today and were informed that there are somewhere around 20 of these instances reported in the area."
Chief Haulmark said it might be worth taking a look at your vehicle to ensure that it has not been tampered with.
