Sheriff: Kan. man arrested for alleged violent attack on woman

BARTON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a violent attack on a woman in Great Bend and have made an arrest.

On October 19, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office became aware of an alleged battery and rape case that occurred October 17, in the southeast part of Great Bend and involved a 42-year-old woman, according to Sheriff Brian Bellendir. The victim did not report the alleged crime until October 19.

After conducting numerous interviews and follow-up investigations, detectives identified a suspect as Tanner J. Cox  32, of Hoisington.

Just after midnight Friday, deputies arrested Cox in a business parking lot on E. 10th Street in Great Bend

 He is being held on requested charges of attempted murder in the 2nd degree, rape and violation of a protective order. Cox is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond, according to Bellendir.
