ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a shooting that injured a girl at a home in Atchison.
Just after 11:45p.m. on Thursday police responded to the 1400 block Commercial in Atchison to investigate a shooting that had just occurred, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.
Multiple shots had been fired at a residence where four persons were on and near a porch. The gunfire struck a 12-year-old girl. EMS transported her to Amberwell Hospital and subsequently airlifted to a Kansas City hospital.
Officers and detectives worked throughout the night following leads. This was not a drive-by shooting, according to Wilson. The suspects were on foot. Police released no additional details early Friday.
