
SHAWNEE COUNTY—Authorities are investigating the cause of a Kansas house fire that injured a firefighter.
just before 2 a.m., crews responded to a house fire at 930 SW Jewell Avenue in Topeka, according to fire department spokesperson Rosie Nichols.
First responders found smoke and flames coming from the single-story house and two adults outside who advised they were the only occupants.
One firefighter was transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries sustained in the fire. He has been released. One adult male occupant was treated at the scene by AMR for non life-threatening injuries.
The total estimated loss is $62,000, with $52,000 associated with structural loss and $10,000 associated with content loss.
The home did not have working smoke detectors, according to Nichols.
