NW Kansas sheriff looking for inmate who escaped

HAYS – The Ellis County Sheriff’s Department is looking for an inmate who escaped from custody Saturday evening while being transported from Hays Medical Center.

According to the sheriff’s department, Juan Olivares Herrera was last seen running south on 22nd St. and Canterbury. Law enforcement officials are searching the area.

 Herrera is a Hispanic male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 100 pounds.

He also has a large black and grey watercolor-type tattoo on his left shoulder/chest, last known to have a mustache/goatee.

He has a distinct leg injury and was last known to be wearing jail oranges and handcuffs.

Anyone with information on Herrera’s whereabouts should contact law enforcement and not approach him. 

He is being held on the requsted charges: domestic battery, aggravated robbery, and disorderly conduct.
