HARVEY COUNTY — A man was arrested Sunday after allegedly barricading himself during a domestic violence investigation in south Newton, bringing an hours-long police response to a safe conclusion.
According to a social media report, the Newton Police Department responded between 6 and 6:30 a.m. to reports of an armed, barricaded suspect near Summer Drive and Old Main Street. The incident later centered near Old Main Street and 24th Street.
Police had obtained arrest warrants for the suspect while officers worked to resolve the situation. Authorities previously confirmed the victim in the domestic violence investigation was safe and secure.
During the incident, the area around Old Main Street and 24th Street was closed to the public. Nearby residents were instructed to either shelter in place or evacuate, depending on their location, while officers managed the scene.
